Ethereal. Supernatural. Inexplicable. The series From has delighted and tormented long-time aficionados with titillating hints of the origin of the stranded, haunted town. But does From have more in common with fan-loved and fan-hated paranormal and esoteric fare like Twin Peaks and Lost?

We'll examine what makes From so unique and how the concepts and plot ideas intersect with those of Lost and Twin Peaks, two similar series that weren't so forthcoming with answers to the horrific images presented. Do the concepts of From bisect with Lost and Twin Peaks directly or indirectly? After the stunning season two finale of From, many wonder if a supernatural explanation is the only one available.

Ensign Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) had a life-threatening experience with Starfleet Cadets in the Star Trek: Discovery season 4 episode "All Is Possible" which was a clever homage to the Star Trek: The Original Series episode, "The Galileo Seven." Tilly was tasked with overseeing a team-building exercise, but she and her Cadets were accidentally marooned on an alien moon. Tilly's Star Trek: Discovery ordeal echoed the challenge Spock (Leonard Nimoy) faced when the shuttlecraft Galileo crashed on Taurus II.

In Star Trek: Discovery, Tilly and Ensign Adira Tal (Blu Del Barrio) crashed on a frozen L-class moon with the first new class of Cadets since Starfleet Academy reopened. Along with the possibility of freezing to death, the Starfleet heroes were stalked by the moon's native ice spider-like creatures. But the toughest test for Tilly was managing the young Cadets, who were hostile toward each other. Tilly's plight resembled what Spock endured on Taurus II.

Guillermo Del Toro's horror anthology series consists of 8 stand-alone horror vignettes and features contributions from a diverse group of directors, writers, and actors. This episode, based on an H.P. Lovecraft short story of the same name, was written for television by Lee Patterson and is directed by Keith Thomas - the director of the 2019 horror film The Vigil.

"Pickman's Model" tells the story of William Thurber, an aspiring young artist studying at an art college in Arkham (a fictional Massachusets city in Lovecraft's work) whose life takes a dark turn after he becomes involved with mysterious classmate Richard Pickman. Pickman is an aloof and introverted figure who, like the central character of "Graveyard Rats", spends most of his time in cemeteries after dark.

Television networks are unveiling slates of Halloween-themed content including new and classic horror films, reality competition shows, live specials and more.

Among this year’s programming options is Freeform’s annual “31 Nights of Halloween,” with up to 10 films a day including many family favorites from “Shrek” to “Casper,” plus an in-person event in Los Angeles called Freeform’s Halloween Road. Additionally, horror streaming service Shudder has kicked off “61 Days of Halloween,” with weekly film and series premieres, 24-hour jack-o-lantern stream “The Ghoul Log” and a “Halloween Hotline” where every Friday in October, subscribers can call Shudder’s head of programming Samuel Zimmerman to discuss horror favorites and receive new recommendations.

Directed by Euros Lyn, the film tells the true story of Dream Alliance, an unlikely race horse bred by small town Welsh bartender, Jan Vokes (Collette). With very little money and no experience, Jan convinces her neighbors to chip in their meager earnings to help raise Dream in the hopes he can compete with the racing elites. The group’s investment pays off as Dream rises through the ranks with grit and determination and goes on to race in the Welsh Grand National showing the heart of a true champion.

For years now, writer Simon Barrett has been involved with several of my favorite modern horrors, including You’re Next, the criminally underappreciated Blair Witch (2016), and A Horrible Way to Die, as well as The Guest. But now, Barrett is branching out creatively, directing his first feature Seance, which follows a group of young women at an elite prep school who are being murdered by a mysterious entity after a prank amongst several of the students goes horribly wrong.

During the recent press day for Seance, I had the opportunity to speak with Barrett about his directorial debut, and we also dug into some of our own geeky tendencies as horror fans throughout our conversation. Barrett also discussed the inspirations behind the story of Seance, the importance of being good to your characters when you’re writing and/or directing, working with his incredible cast, and more.

Along with a few fast-forgotten dogs, Simon Barrett has written some of the more enjoyable U.S. horror opuses over the last two decades, from 2004’s period ghost story “Dead Birds” through a series of Adam Wingard films that laid career path to that director’s current big-budget assignment “Godzilla vs. Kong.”

You might expect Barrett’s own belated feature directorial debut to expand upon the clever, blackly humorous genre mayhem of his best Wingard projects like “The Guest” and “You’re Next.” But “Seance” proves a disappointingly boilerplate retro slasher that’s pedestrian on every level from concept to execution. It’s not terrible, only so devoid of imagination, wit or novelty (as well as scares) that it seems a perversely generic choice with which to launch a new career phase. While it is still a slow but sure climb, movies are back and the summer movie season is upon us. Horror fans have much to look forward to, including Seance. And we got to chat with stars Suki Waterhouse and Inanna Sarkis all about the flick, which is coming to a theater near you, as well as the comfort of home, this week.

This is the feature directorial debut of Simon Barrett, known for writing movies such as You're Next, The Guest and Blair Witch. Barrett has frequently collaborated with Adam Wingard, who directed all of the aforementioned movies, as well as Godzilla vs. Kong. For Berret's first feature, he crafted a horror-mystery with slasher vibes and supernatural elements at play. It also features a predominantly female cast, led by Suki Waterhouse in the leading role. The cast also includes Madisen Beaty, Ella-Rae Smith, Seamus Patterson and Marina Stephenson-Ker.

Rlje Films and Shudder has launched a chillingly hellish new trailer for the horror ‘Seance’ starring Suki Waterhouse.

Camille Meadows is the new girl at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. Soon after her arrival, six girls invite her to join them in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.

Written and directed by Simon Barrett, the film also stars Madisen Beaty, Ella-Rae Smith, Inanna Sarkis, Seamus Patterson and Marina Stephenson-Kerr.

Rlje Films has released a new trailer for Seance the upcoming horror flick comes from the mind of filmmaker Simon Barrett, who makes his directorial debut here. It stars Suki Waterhouse in the leading role. As we can see, this appears to be a blend of several genres, with slasher vibes, paranormal happenings and a muder mystery, all wrapped together.

The trailer opens with Suki Waterhouse's character Camille arriving at an exclusive all-girls academy. She is having a bit of trouble fitting in at first. We then learn about an alleged spirit that haunts the halls of the school. Camille then decides to join a group of her fellow students in a ritual to try and summon this spirit. Needless to say, this does not go well. Strange things begin to happen and blood begins to spill as they reckon with the evil that they've brought to life.

Well. That was fast. It was only the other week that scribe Simon Barrett had informally announced on his socials that production had wrapped one what we assume was his first shot at directing a feature film, Seance. He's been up in our neck of the woods for a while working on it.    Fast because today comes the announcement that the North American rights for Seance have been picked up by Rlje Films. AMC Networks’ premium service Shudder will be the exclusive streaming home for Channel Zero, the Syfy horror series.

Created for television by Nick Antosca and produced by Universal Cable Productions (Ucp), each six-episode installment features a new cast, new director and a new story arc. Shudder members can stream the first installment of Channel Zero starting Thursday, August 9, followed by the second installment in September, the third installment in October, and the fourth installment in 2019.

“Channel Zero is one of the best horror shows of the last decade and we’re thrilled to bring it exclusively to Shudder members,” said Craig Engler, general manager of Shudder. “Nick Antosca’s innovative storytelling and unparalleled knack for creating a moody, terrifying series make this can’t-miss TV.”
