First films announced for the 2024 A Night of Horror International Film Festival
Image
A Night of Horror International Film Festival, announces its first programming wave for 2024 today. Long known as Australia’s premier genre film event, the festival now takes place in the United States. This year, the festival’s 16th edition – and first in the US – screens from March 1-3, at the Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Why H.P. Lovecraft's Horror Movies Always Seem to Fail
Image
Director Joe Lynch's latest project is Suitable Flesh, an adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft story "The Thing on the Doorstep." Genre fans will be squeeing with delight at the prospect of seeing Lovecraft's most interesting later stories coming to life on the big screen, and horror fans warmly received the world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday.

Nevertheless, however well the film does following its release on Shudder, it remains that H. P. Lovecraft adaptations are a hard sell for Hollywood. In fact, the few attempts at making a high-profile adaptation on either television or film have tended to meet with mixed results at best. Why do Lovecraft projects have a history of flattering to deceive or sinking without a trace?

Suitable Flesh's Challenge

Suitable Flesh will innovate inasmuch as the lead character of the source material will be gender-swapped: Elizabeth Derby, a psychiatrist (played...
