Biography

    • Steven Huff is a lifelong martial arts practitioner, weapons and close quarter combatives instructor, martial historian and Fight Choreographer.

Growing up on Star Wars, comic books and Dungeons & Dragons, his passion for science fiction and fantasy eventually led to a desire to learn to use weapons and he began his martial arts training in Eastern martial arts as a child. He also developed a passion for history, particularly in the history of martial arts and interpersonal combatives as well as general military history.

Eventually he was able to blend his love for martial arts and weapons with his passion for history, studying various forms of Eastern and Western martial arts for over 30 years. Having been fortunate enough to be invited to teach at workshops around the world allowed him the opportunity to research and often study new systems of combat. His practices in Early European martial arts eventually led him to apprentice under the late internationally renowned edged weapons expert, martial historian and author Colonel Dwight McLemore, whose work, research and instruction in Early American Fighting Arts had long been one of Steve's main interests. Studying closely with "The Colonel" for over 20 years, the two researched and trained in various historical styles of Early American combatives, with a special focus on the development and use of the tomahawk (including modern military uses for the tomahawk), the use of the Bowie knife and similar large knives, and other areas such as gladiatorial combat and Viking combatives. Additionally, Steve has trained with some of the top instructors in the world in other weapons styles such as German and Italian medieval swordsmanship, Italian Renaissance swordsmanship, military and dueling saber, quarterstaff, and Spanish Knife Fighting just to name a few. He also trains and instructs regularly in modern close quarter combatives/self-defense.

Combining his love for (and degrees in) history Steve continues to research and explore various fighting systems, examining not only the fighting systems themselves but also the cultures in which they developed, particularly the role in which cultural migration causes new martial systems to develop.

Having recently relocated to Los Angeles, he has brought his knowledge and skills as both a martial artist/weapons expert and instructor as well as martial historian to the entertainment industry as a Fight Choreographer, Actor, Consultant and Weapons Trainer for film, TV and live performances.
