Lee Salter is an independent researcher and film maker whose work spans a range of issues, especially media
representation of political issues and events.
He is the author of two books and more than 15 refereed research articles and book chapters, ranging from austerity economics and international politics to technology and political theory.
He has made more than 50 short films and 4 feature documentaries, on the City of London, the British media, the economic crisis and money, and prison.
Lee has worked with a number of radical media projects around the UK. He is the co-founder of the Bristol Radical Film Festival.
His doctoral work focused democratic theory and communication and formed the foundation of his subsequent investigations.
His interest in the subject matter of Secret City began in 2002 when he researched for petitioners against the City of London Ward Elections Bill as it entered the House of Lords. As a result of his continued interest in the City of London, he formulated the idea of producing a film to draw attention to that which is hidden in plain sight, beginning his collaboration with director Michael Chanan, with whom he also collaborated on A Short Film About Money and Money Puzzles.
His documentary film, The Fourth Estate (2013), made with Liz Mizon is an analysis of the British media system. His documentary, Injustice (2017) looked at the British prison system from the perspective of prisoners and their families. His most recent film focuses on drugs and dance floors in the UK.
