Countdown to an adrenaline rush! The fast-moving fourth season of the alt-history drama, For All Mankind, set in a world where the space race never ended relaunches in the year 2003 with a harrowing mission commanded by brave astronaut Ed Baldwin (a further aged-up Joel Kinnaman), now the solar system’s gutsiest grandad. (Credit: Apple TV+) Eight years have passed since we last saw Ed, one of the first Americans in space during the 1960s. In the Season 3 finale, he transported his pregnant researcher daughter Kelly (Cynthy Wu) in a risky flight from the planet’s surface to an orbiting ship so she could give birth safely. He then got the shocking news that his ex-wife, entrepreneur Karen (Shantel VanSanten), had been killed by a terrorist bomb at the Johnson Space Center, along with the first American woman on the moon, Molly Cobb (Sonya Walger). Surviving the tragedy — but assumed dead...

For All Mankind’s Future Beyond Season 4 Addressed By Creator As Sci-Fi Show Approaches Present Day
Image
The creators of For All Mankind have planned the show for six or seven seasons and are currently past the halfway point, sticking to their ambitious roadmap. The show's writers have flexibility to go off the map if needed while still aiming for the big goalposts. While co-creator Ben Nedivi can't imagine discussing season 6, now that they are about to premiere season 4, their plan for the future of the show still looks solid.

The future of For All Mankind has been discussed by one of the show's creators. The Apple TV+ science fiction show presents an alternate history where Russia put an astronaut on the Moon before America, and the Space Race never ended. It follows the rapid expansion of space exploration through the years, skipping about a decade between each season. Because of the wide breadth of its timeline, the show features a rotating ensemble cast that has included Joel Kinnaman,...

For All Mankind Season 4 Review: Another Giant Leap For Apple's Smart And Thrilling Space Drama
Image
At what point did "For All Mankind" truly come into its own? Maybe it was as early as its resounding debut season, which flipped one of the most pivotal events in human history on its head — the United States beating the Soviet Union to the moon — with an alternate-history twist where Russia had won the space race and reinvigorated the Cold War. Then again, season 2 was the one to use this fascinating jumping-off point to achieve even greater heights, melding human conflicts and space nerdery into one ambitious storyline about the series of small, personal choices made in narrowly avoiding the onset of World War III in the 1980s. When season 3 took the action all the way to Mars another decade later with much of the original cast still involved, it was easy to imagine the whole enterprise coming apart at the seams. Instead, the series embraced its own flawed (but three-dimensional) characters,...

‘For All Mankind’ Season 4 Trailer Promises a Gold Rush in Space (Video)
Ronald D. Moore
“For All Mankind” Season 4 is nearly here. And a trailer that just played on the first day of New York Comic Con (where they’re also screening the first episode of the new season) gives us our first taste of what’s to come. Watch it above.

If you’ve never seen “For All Mankind” — created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi — it’s an alternate history tale of the space race. The first season was set during the race to the moon, with America training a group of female astronauts and Russia getting there first.

Each subsequent season has moved further away from actual history while still incorporating details from real life. And, crucially, each season is set a decade after the previous season, meaning that old-age makeup technology is constantly being put to the test. (Sometimes it works better than others.)

As the trailer reveals,...

For All Mankind Season 4 Release Date, Story, Cast, And More Info
Image
Are you a science nerd who's become disheartened by our collective inability as a species to work together towards a common goal, to put ego and wealth and politics aside, and simply explore the cosmos for the betterment of our species? If you haven't been following along already, allow me to point you in the direction of "For All Mankind." I should clarify, this isn't the show to watch if you're looking for an escape from all the cynicism we've been seeing in our news headlines for the better part of the 21st Century. Rather, the Apple TV+ series shines a direct light on all our missteps through an alternate-history lens -- one in which the Russians won the space race by landing a man on the moon back in the 1960s, kicking off an even more intense game of one-upmanship between the world's superpowers locked in an eternal Cold War.
