Lady Gaga is returning to the MTV VMAs.

Gaga has officially joined the list of 2025 VMAs performers set to appear at this year’s awards ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 7. Both MTV and the VMAs announced the exciting news on social media Saturday.

“There will be magic in the air at the 2025 #VMAs because @Ladygaga Is Performing!” the VMAs shared on Instagram. “You won’t want to miss her return.”

Mother Monster joins an already announced slate of performers including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone and Tate McRae. Sombr, Alex Warren and J Balvin featuring DJ Snake will also hit the VMAs stage.

Drake has revealed 19 music videos for the $ome $exy $ongs 4 U single “Somebody Loves Me” with PartyNextDoor.

Drake and PartyNextDoor, alongside streamer Kai Cenat, a frequent Drake collaborator, held a contest in May that called on aspiring directors to submit music video treatments for the song, promising 20 finalists $15,000 to create a 30-second to one-minute-long clip of the song. “If you don’t know what a treatment is then…a treatment is an idea for a music video,” Cenat announced on his popular Twitch stream. “That is insane,” he added, excited about the opportunity.

Drake isn't only one of this generation's biggest hit-makers, he's also an avid collector of memorabilia, already purchasing some of Pharrell Williams' chains, including the famous 14-karat N.E.R.D. pendant that the Canadian rapper wore in his video for "Jumbotron S**t Poppin."

He also bought a chain that Frank Ocean wore at the 2021 Met Gala for $1.9 million and spent a little over $1 million at an auction for one of Tupac Shakur's rings.

After several decades as a mainstay in the music industry, Mariah Carey is set to receive the MTV Video Music Awards’ 2025 Video Vanguard Award.

In addition to accepting the award, Carey will also take the stage to perform a medley of her greatest hits during the awards show.

Carey has been nominated for eight VMAs over the years, including a nod in the best R&b video category for her song “Type Dangerous” at the 2025 ceremony. She made her VMAs debut in 1991 with a memorable performance of “Emotions” and returned to the awards show in 1997 to present the Video Vanguard Award to LL Cool J.

Lucian Grainge’s patience is seemingly wearing thin as Universal Music Group’s legal battle with rapper Drake rumbles on. In a declaration letter, filed Thursday with the Southern District of New York and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the all-powerful head of Umg, the world’s biggest music company, fired back at Drake’s latest push to secure more documents related to the company’s relationship with Kendrick Lamar, describing the specific claims made by Drake as “farcical,” “nonsensical” and “groundless and indeed ridiculous,” with Grainge pointedly remarking that the company had spent “hundreds of millions” in supporting the Canadian rapper’s music career.

Drake is looking for ammunition in his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

In a discovery bid, Drake, born Aubrey Graham, urged the court to force Umg and chief executive Lucian Grainge to turn over the label’s contract with Lamar, as well as information relating to allegations of domestic violence and other crimes committed by the Compton rapper.

Lamar (Interscope Records) and Drake (Republic Records) are represented by different divisions of Umg. Their rap battle turned to court earlier this year when the Toronto rapper claimed that Umg spread defamatory assertions that he’s a pedophile by making secret payments and offering reduced licensing rates to third parties to promote the song, with the goal of devaluing his music and brand amid contract negotiations.

The feud started with Drake’s 2023 J. Cole collaboration “First Person Shooter,” in which the pair proclaimed itself the “big three” alongside Lamar.

Drake’s ongoing lawsuit against Umg sought documents related to “allegations of domestic violence” against Kendrick Lamar, as well as communications between Lamar and Tde label boss Dave Free regarding Lamar’s children, in an apparent attempt to back up Drake’s own claims from the 2024 song “Family Matters.”

The requests came as part of the trial’s discovery period. In a letter dated June 3rd, Drake’s attorneys noted 75 requests for documents from Umg, asking the defendants to verify if any documents existed, and if so, to turn them over.

Synonymous with San Francisco, for the last 17 years, Outside Lands has taken over the city’s Golden Gate Park and hosted iconic performances from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, The Strokes, Green Day and Chappell Roan, while injecting more Bay Area DNA into the event each year. The race for Best Variety Special (Live) — featuring high-wattage contenders like Netflix’s Beyoncé Bowl and Peacock’s SNL 50: The Anniversary Special — was originally scheduled for the second night of the Creative Arts Emmys. Gold Derby has confirmed that the Television Academy has now moved it to the main Primetime Emmys telecast, airing Sept. 14 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

According to Gold Derby’s latest combined odds, SNL50: The Anniversary Special is the category front-runner, followed by Apple Music’s Super Bowl Lix Halftime Show starring Kendrick Lamar, The Oscars, Beyoncé Bowl, and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert — another tribute entry from the most Emmy-winning show in history.

That means Queen Bey will have to defy the odds — again — if she hopes to finally add Emmy gold to her crowded trophy case.
