Asian and Pacific Islander non-profit collective Gold House announced the launch of a Gold Open for Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in partnership with GoFundMe.

Gold House’s Gold Open premieres, launched in partnership with Cape (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) are an initiative that aims to drive box office success for films led by Asians and Pacific Islanders. “Parasite” and “Crazy Rich Asians” are two films to have received Gold Opens in the past. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which premieres Sept. 3, will be the first theater-exclusive Gold Open since the start of the pandemic.

AppleTV has debuted a trailer for the upcoming filmed theatre performance of ‘Come From Away.’

The movie is the filmed version of the award-winning Broadway musical which tells the story of 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the US are grounded on September 11, 2001. As the people of Newfoundland graciously welcome the “come from aways” into their community in the aftermath, the passengers and locals alike process what’s happened while finding love, laughter and new hope in the unlikely and lasting bonds that they forge.

The live performance was filmed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, where the Broadway production is staged, for an audience that included 9/11 survivors and frontline workers.

Directed by Christopher Ashley, it stars Petrina Bromley, Jenn Colella, De’Lon Grant, Joel Hatch, Tony LePage, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Emily Walton, Jim Walton, Sharon Wheatley and Paul Whitty.

Come From Away, the Apple Original Films adaptation of the Broadway hit musical, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, September 10 – the eve of 9/11’s 20th anniversary – with an ensemble cast that includes members of the original and current Broadway casts.

Directed by the musical’s Tony Award-winning director Christopher Ashley, the live performance was filmed at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in May before an audience that included 9/11 survivors and front-line workers.

Broadway Actor & Covid Survivor Chad Kimball Sparks Backlash For Pledging To “Respectfully Disobey” State Restrictions On Religious Services

Tony Award-nominated actor Chad Kimball, among Broadway’s first wave of performers to contract the coronavirus last spring, is finding little support among his Broadway colleagues after he pledged to “respectfully disobey” Washington State Covid-19 guidelines limiting religious services and participation.

Kimball, a Seattle native, star of the hit, now-suspended, Broadway musical Come From Away and Tony-nominated for his performance in 2011’s Memphis, tweeted his opposition to Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s newly announced wide-ranging anti-covid restrictions that, among other measures, limit religious services to 25% indoor occupancy or no more than 200 people, with face coverings required at all times.

Kimball, who became sickened with Covid-19 last March, took particular issue with Inslee’s restrictions on singing during religious services. Under the new guidelines, “no choir, band, or ensemble shall perform during the service. Vocal or instrumental soloists are permitted to perform, and vocal soloists may have a single accompanist.”
