‘Ms. Marvel’ Actress Yasmeen Fletcher to Star in AI-Themed Sci-Fi Horror ‘Othermor’

Yasmeen Fletcher (“Ms. Marvel”) and Troy Baker (The Last of Us) will star in the AI-themed sci-fi horror film Othermor, Deadline reports.

Exploring themes of memory, identity, and artificial intelligence, the film is said to blend surreal and psychological horror with reflections on the human condition.

It revolves around a young woman suffering from amnesia, trapped in a mysterious Victorian-style chamber with an enigmatic AI caretaker. As she negotiates for the return of her memories, she encounters a haunting doppelganger who may hold the key to her escape.

Production is set to take place in Atlanta later this year with co-directors Justin Solaiman and Hudson King making their feature debut from a script by Solaiman.

Ms. Marvel and The Last of Us Stars Team Up for AI-Themed Sci-Fi Horror Movie

Ever since the rise of AI, it's become a rich vein for horror movie directors to tap into. Now, the newly established Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment, created by Edoardo Bussi, is launching an AI-themed horror film. This is to be titled Othermor.

The film will star Troy Baker and Yasmeen Fletcher. Baker is widely known for his work in the video game world, having played Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and perhaps most famously of all, Joel Miller in the beloved zombie game The Last of Us. While the role of Joel in the TV adaption went to Pedro Pascal, Baker did pop up in the show, playing henchman James in the episode "When We Are In Need."

Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment Sets First Sales Acquisition With ‘Before We Forget’

Exclusive: Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment, the new London-based international sales and production company launched by Edoardo Bussi last month, has unveiled Before We Forget as its first global acquisition for its upcoming Cannes slate.

The nostalgic, coming-of-age story marks the feature directorial debut of Argentinian actor Juan Pablo Di Pace, and Andrés Pepe Estrada, who is best known as an award-winning editor on films such as Argentina, 1985 and Upon Open Sky).

Di Pace stars as man looking back on the moments that shaped him, returning to memories of his student days in 1990s Italy, to rediscover the friendships, heartbreaks, and quiet triumphs of youth. As the line between past and present begins to blur, he understands that growing up never truly ends, and that looking back can be the only way to move forward.

Originally titled Duino, the Argentinian-Italian-u.S. co-production is lead produced by Di Pace’s Momento Films.

Exclusive: Emmy-winning Downton Abbey producer Liz Trubridge is reuniting with actor Matt Barber to launch a production company.

New Empire Pictures will forge a slate of TV shows and movies that it said will “merge strategic finance with creative excellence and precisely targeted sales and distribution strategies.”

The company launches with the support of Edoardo Bussi of Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment as Strategic Sales Consultant.

Trubridge is a decorated British producer who worked across Downton Abbey for years, scooping an Emmy in 2011 for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie and nominated for several more. She worked on the more recent Downton films and is a producer on Peacock-Sky’s upcoming Lockerbie: A Search for Truth. She has been three-times BAFTA nominated for Downton, A Short Stay in Switzerland and The Riff Raff Element.

Rome’s Mia Market 2021 to include HBO Max, MGM, Studiocanal execs

The event will take place in-person from October 13-17.

Executives from HBO Max, MGM and Studiocanal are among those who will participate in the seventh edition of Rome’s International Audiovisual Market (Mia), which will run in person from October 13-17.

Mia’s 2021 programme of panels, content showcases and screenings will be split across three sections: scripted, unscripted and strategic development.

The scripted division is comprised of two boards of industry executives, for film and for drama.

Executives will offer guidance to Mia attendees and inform the Mia programme; exact involvement for each executive is to-be-confirmed.

Rome’s Mia Market on Track for Mostly Physical Edition in October With Substantial U.S. Presence

Rome’s growing Mia market, dedicated to international TV series, feature films and documentaries, is on track to take place as a mostly in-person Oct. 13-17 event, for which a robust clutch of top U.S. and European execs are expected to make the trek.

“We are getting a great response: lots of confirmations and great willingness to attend,” said Mia director Lucia Milazzotto (pictured), adding that pulling off last year’s market in the Eternal City as a partly physical event “when the pandemic situation was a lot worse” has “certainly paid off” in terms of getting people to attend this year.

Despite concerns about the Delta variant, certified vaccinations are expected to ensure a measure of safety for the event in October.

MGM Sales Exec Antonio Salas Joins Global Road, Gfm’s Edoardo Bussi To MGM
Exclusive: MGM’s VP Of International Sales Antonio Salas is joining Donald Tang’s Global Road Entertainment in the same role.

Salas begins at Global Road next week and will report to President Of International Sales Charlotte Van Weede, with whom he previously worked at eOne Films International. Salas will manage all film sales relationships in Emea territories including France, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Turkey and the Middle East as well as all Asian territories (excluding Japan and China). He will be based in London.

Salas joined MGM in April 2016 and worked on movies including Bruce Willis action pic Death Wish, horror Wish Upon and Annapurna titles including Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney biopic.

Family animation '10 Lives' sells across Europe, Latin America, Middle East (exclusive)
Gfm Animation scores deals on upcoming project.

After being launched at last month’s Berlin Film Festival, feature family animation 10 Lives has racked up the deals for UK-based Gfm Animation, the sister company of sales agent Gfm Films.

Territories sold so far are Top Films (Cis), Koch Media (Italy), Vertice Cine (Spain), Outsider (Portugal), Ster Kinekor (South Africa), Tanweer (Greece), New Guys (Israel), Blue Lantern Media (Vietnam), Ecs (Middle East), Imagem Filmes (Latin America), Vertical Distribution (Eastern Europe) and Acme (Baltics).

The film is the second to be produced as part of a joint venture between Chinese animation outfit Original Force and Gfm Animation.

Exclusive: Gfm Evolution to launch The Ledge at Cannes.

UK production outfit Evolution Pictures is plotting The Ledge, the latest feature from Never Let Go and The Dead director Howard J Ford.

Set in the Italian Dolomites, the action thriller follows a lone female climber who finds herself trapped on the face of a mountain as she is goaded by a group of young male climbers who seem intent on killing her.

Sales outfit Gfm Evolution will launch the project to buyers at Cannes.

Rod Smith and Edoardo Bussi will produce for Evolution Pictures and Italy’s Videa Spa will provide local production services. Tom Boyle has written the screenplay.

Casting is underway with Lucy Hellier at Independent Talent Group and production is set to start in September 2017.

Pegg's Absolutely Anything sells to China

The upcoming fantasy comedy is directed by Monty Python’s Terry Jones.

Gfm Films has sold Terry Jones-directed Absolutely Anything to HuaHua Media and Beijing YueHua Entertainment for China.

The deal was negotiated by Edoardo Bussi for Gfm Films, producer Ben Timlett, Kefei Wang for Huahua Media and Kiki Du for Yuehua Entertainment.

The fantasy comedy stars Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale, Rob Riggle, with the Monthy Python troupe voicing the galactic aliens who give Pegg’s character Neil the ability to do “absolutely anything”. The late Robin Williams voices Neil’s dog, Dennis.

The film was written by Jones and Gavin Scott and produced by Ben Timlett and Bill Jones’ Bill and Ben Productions.

Absolutely Anything is currently in post production with visual FX by London-based NVizible and Base in China. The film will be completed and delivered in Feb 2015 and its UK premiere will be through Lionsgate next spring/early summer.
