Neelam was born in an upper middle class family in Mumbai, India. She is an arts graduate and learned photography as a diploma course. She has two siblings. She was spotted first on a ramp walk for MTV's Style Check. From then on she went on to acting in few Tamil and Telugu films. Though her film's couldn't be said of as huge successes, she was noted. In 2024, She was engaged to Siddharth Chopra, a businessman. Her hobbies are reading books and she writes a personal blog.
