Adria Arjona's emotional reflection on Andor
Image
Many actors have continued to reflect on what Andor has meant to them. One actress who continues to speak on the positive influence of her role is Adria Arjona. The actress, known before for films such as Pacific Rim: Uprising, portrayed the character of Bix Caleen in the Star Wars series.

She recently spoke of the challenge, emotion, and reward of working on the second season of the series with StarWars.com, saying, “There’s no way really to prepare yourself other than just diving in head first and trusting in Tony’s writing. Really putting yourself in Bix’s shoes, through all that Bix has gone through. It’s a challenge.”

The character's arc throughout both seasons was as strong and compelling as any we have seen from a Star Wars character in the franchise. She was tortured at the hands of an Imperial doctor in the first season,...

98 Best Movies & TV Shows You Must See On Disney+ UK In June 2025
Image
[Editor's Note: This article is reviewed and updated on a weekly basis.]

It's been five whole years since Disney+ arrived in the UK, changing the streaming game almost overnight and making the daily struggle to choose what to watch next that bit harder. (We know — poor us!) Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet of IP — Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, and Fox — and an ever-growing catalogue of offerings pooled from elsewhere, the House of Mouse has created a veritable content utopia where there truly is something for everyone. How many other platforms do you know where you can observe the mechanics of fascism and the cost of revolution through the lens of Star Wars (Andor), cross the Polynesian horizon with a demigod (Moana 2), see Timmy C rock out as a rebel youth Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown), and see Vikings go toe-to-toe with the Predator (Predator: Killer Of Killers) all without having to switch streamers?

When faced with a platform where you...

Adria Arjona Wept Saying Her ‘Andor’ Farewell: It ‘Shook My Heart’
Image
Welcome to Pour One Out! In this series, IndieWire celebrates some of our favorite characters on TV that have come to the end of their run this season, with the stars who played them.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for “Andor” Season 2.]

As a longtime Star Wars fan, Adria Arjona is still in awe of her role in “Andor.”

The “Rogue One” prequel series may be named for Diego Luna’s rebellion leader, but after two seasons, it’s undeniable that he wouldn’t become who he did without Arjona’s Bix Caleen.

“When [showrunner Tony Gilroy] told me how I was going to part ways with this character, I did not take it lightly,” Arjona told IndieWire. “It really shook my heart, the fact that I was gonna send off on this journey one of my favorite characters and then have an impact in ‘A New Hope.’ I just couldn’t believe that I was going...

Adria Arjona Felt “a Great Honor” Saying the Word “Rape” in ‘Star Wars’ TV Series
Image
Adria Arjona is still on a high from the positive response to the premiere of her latest project, Splitsville, at the Cannes Film Festival. “I think people sometimes forget that actors don’t really get that unless you’re in the theater, unless you’re performing [live],” she tells THR. “When you get that applause, you’re like, ‘Ok, I’m in the right zone.’ ”

Arjona’s zone is a bit left of center, which made co-starring alongside Michael Angelo Covino — who also co-wrote, directed and produced the movie about two couples who drift apart — fun. “I’m a quirky girl,” she insists. “I just look a certain way and people don’t think I am, but I’m weird.”

The remarriage comedy is a big departure from Arjona’s most well-known role to date — Bix Caleen in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor — but in that way, it perfectly aligns...

'I Think It's Way, Way Better': Andy Serkis Explains Fan-Favorite Character's Absence in Andor Season 2
Image
Hollywood icon Andy Serkis breaks down why his Season 1 character Kino Loy didn't return for the second season of Star Wars: Andor.

Speaking to Collider, "I ultimately think it's best for the character. It was such a great arc, and it had a very, very definite and heroic conclusion," Serkis explained. "I think, in many ways, to go back would be difficult because it has left a mark. I was so surprised at how emotionally effective that character was, actually, and so I think it's way, way better that we leave him in Narkina 5, on his own."

Serkis made his debut as Kino Loy in the first season of Andor. A prisoner within the dreaded Narkina 5 facility, Kino oversaw his fellow prisoners during the day as floor manager. Over the course of the series' first season, Kino joined Diego Luna's Cassian Andor in leading a prison riot that overwhelmed...

Before Andor, Adria Arjona Lost Out On Another Big Role In The Star Wars Galaxy
Image
Adria Arjona cemented herself in the pages of "Star Wars" history with her turn as Bix Caleen in "Andor." Specifically, with her character arc in season 2 of the Disney+ series, Arjona helped transform Bix into a wildly important, unforgettable figure in a galaxy far, far away. Bix was part of the tragic yet touching romance with Cassian, a doomed romance that helped shape the Rebellion as we know it. Yet, before she took on the role of Bix, Arjona nearly played an entirely different character in the franchise.

In a recent interview with StarWars.com, Arjona reflected on her time as Bix now that "Andor" season 2 is in the rearview mirror. The piece also included a pretty intriguing bit of information: it wasn't her first brush with the "Star Wars" franchise, as she auditioned for a "high-profile" role in another project. Arjona weighed in on the matter herself saying that losing out on the role,...

Does Bix's ending in Andor undermine Padme's death in Revenge of the Sith?
Image
The last scene of Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) in Andor Season 2 was as poignant as it was powerful. Her standing in the middle of a field holding a baby, whose father is quite obviously Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), gave more footing to her decision to leave Yavin IV.

Cassian was already prepared to leave the Rebellion for a domestic life with Bix. Had he known she was pregnant with their child, he would have been even more steadfast in that decision. Bix knew the Rebellion needed Cassian and would have suffered in his absence. Given what happens in Rogue One, we see that she was right.

Moreover, Cassian and Bix themselves would not have managed to live in peace doing nothing, knowing fully well that their friends and fellow rebels were putting their lives on the line to fight the Empire. Cassian possibly would have felt he let Clem, Maarva,...

Andor Creator Tony Gilroy Doesn't Consider A Key Rogue One Relationship Canon
Image
This article contains spoilers for the end of "Andor" season 2.

The gap between "Andor" seasons 1 and 2 left plenty of space for fans to theorize as to what the second installment of the "Star Wars" series might bring. And while it was always pretty clear that Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) would continue to play a major role in the story, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), many might not have guessed just how central their romance arc would be to "Andor" season 2. Cassian's relationship with Bix is, in many ways, the emotional core of the season, and by extension, the show, exploring how two people caught in impossible circumstances can make both devastating decisions and unbreakable bonds.

The end of "Andor" season 2 sees Bix safely escape the violence of the war against the Empire, and also that she gave birth to a child with Cassian. It's a beautiful moment, but one that...

DC officially working on the movie we've all been waiting for
David Corenswet in Superman (2025)
Everyone deserves a second chance, especially some of the greatest superheroes ever created. At this point, it isn't a secret that he previous iteration of DC Extended Universe failed to meet fans' expectations. The Man of Steel's upcoming adventure—along with the Creature Commandos animated series—are just the first in a brand new slate of projects set in a fresh DC Universe. Will Gal Gadot Return As The Dcu's Wonder Woman? Here's The Latest Update On Her Future As Diana Prince
Image
While DC Studios announced plans for the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost TV series at the start of 2023, there was no mention of a new Wonder Woman movie. Updates have since been few and far between, despite Superman and The Brave and the Bold being in the works.

That changed this week. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn said, "Wonder Woman's a separate thing, slow moving, but it's moving. We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."

While many fans have been speculating about who could play the next Diana Prince, some believe Gal Gadot will get another shot at donning the Amazonian's armour. She portrayed the hero in several Dceu movies, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Zack Snyder's Justice League, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

Gadot's acting abilities were frequently criticised during her stint as the hero.

Is Poe Dameron actually Cassian Andor's son? No, but it's fun to imagine
Image
The second and finale season of Star Wars: Andor ends with a shot of Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) walking out into a field cradling a baby. We immediately assume that this is the child of our title character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), whom Bix left behind earlier in the season right after finding out she was pregnant, knowing that he wouldn't be able to devote his full energies to the Rebellion if he had a family to take care of. We know that Cassian himself dies in the movie Rogue One, which means he'll never know he has a kid out there.

If Disney ever wants to return to the story it told in Andor, it could in theory center a movie or TV show around Cassian's son, now grown up and fighting the First Order or something. In fact, some fans think that already happened: Is Poe Dameron, played...

Former Scream Star Addresses Wonder Woman Casting Rumors After Movie Confirmation
Image
With Wonder Woman officially set to grace the DC Universe, a fan-favorite for the coveted role is addressing her chances of portraying Diana Prince in a planned film about the popular superhero. Former Scream franchise star Melissa Barrera admits it's a "nice" opportunity, but isn't tooting her own horn to play the character.

Speaking with A Shot Magazine, Barrera discussed the rumor that she's a frontrunner for the Dcu's Wonder Woman film following DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn's confirmation that a new movie is in the works. Though there's high fan demand to see her succeed Gal Gadot, Barrera hopes whoever gets the role best embraces the "essence" of the character.

“I think it’s nice because of what the character represents," she said. "I think whoever gets the role, I just hope that they can embody the essence of the character, because I think that those movies, whether they're Marvel or DC,...

Splitsville Review: A Resuscitation of the Rom-Com
Image
Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin know no sophomore slump. The best-friend filmmakers––who met acting opposite each other in a commercial 15 years ago and made their feature debut nine years later with bromance bike comedy The Climb––write, produce, and lead their own films with one fresh, unfettered voice. Under Covino’s direction there’s a holistic sense of artistry, comedic precision, and creative control in their approach––especially per the romcom, an of-late-anemic subgenre that gets some resuscitation in their newest, Splitsville.

It opens in the middle of a road trip singing session between two people who, per their unbearably pitchy voices, are more than comfortable with each other. A year or so into their marriage, Carey (Marvin) and Ashley (Adria Arjona) seem like a match made in heaven––until Carey brings up pottery lessons. “You said you wanted to try new things…?” he pleads. “I meant sexually,...

“There Is No Him Without Her”: ‘Andor’s Diego Luna Explains Why Bix and Cassian’s Relationship Is “Everything” to Him [Exclusive]
Image
In the days that followed the series finale of Andor, I had the opportunity to catch up with Diego Lunaand have a lengthy conversation about his journey with the series. Ahead of the release of our career-spanning profile on Luna, I’m excited to share a snapshot of the interview that speaks directly to one of the best aspects of Tony Gilroy’s critically acclaimed series. When Andor debuted in 2022, the series introduced a whole slate of brand-new characters who were within Cassian Andor’s (Luna) orbit in the lead-up to his tragic fate in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Among those characters was Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), a headstrong mechanic on Ferrix who shared a deep history with Cassian.

In the jump between Season 1 and Season 2, Cassian and Bix’s on-again-off-again relationship restarted once more, and became a central focus of the final season. While discussing Cassian’s...

James Gunn's Dcu Wonder Woman Just Got a Major Update

The final member of the DC Trinity will get a solo DC Universe movie after all. Five years after the last Wonder Woman movie, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has revealed the future of Wonder Woman on the big screen.

"We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now," shared Gunn, who remained tight-lipped over who exactly was scripting Diana Prince's next big-screen adventure.

Gunn's Wonder Woman announcement comes roughly two-and-a-half years after new solo movies for Batman and Superman, the other two members of the DC Trinity, were announced by DC Studios as part of...

“I Apologize”: 'Andor' Creator Knows He Broke the Hearts of Jyn Erso Fans by Creating Star Wars’ Best Ever Romance [Exclusive]
Image
AndorSeason 2 delivered something that Star Wars was sorely lacking: romance. The tragic relationship between Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) became one of the best and most defining aspects of the second and final season of the series, but not without a cost.

Prior to the existence of Andor, Cassian’s biggest “ship” was based on the chemistry he shared with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While nothing romantic actually happened between the two characters — aside from the look they shared on an elevator, shortly before they died in each other’s arms on the shores of Scarif — fans clung to those moments. In recent weeks, Tony Gilroy stoked the flames of controversy by discussing why he didn’t feel beholden to their dynamic, and why it was in the best interest of the series to recontextualize their interactions by introducing...

Dakota Johnson's New Rom-Com With Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans Redeems Madame Web's Failure With Stunning Debut Score
Image
Dakota Johnson has had many critically acclaimed projects, and her latest rom-com, Materialistscontinues the same trend. The film marks her first project since Madame Web, and it completely redeems the poor reception the superhero film got.

Materialists brings back love triangles, with Johnson's Lucy, who plays a matchmaker in New York, torn between her perfect match, Pascal's Harry, and Evans' John, her ex. The rom-com comes from acclaimed filmmaker Celine Song, who made her debut with the Oscar-nominated romance Past Lives. Ahead of its release in theaters on June 13,Materialists debuted with a thrilling 92% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The exciting 92% score is currently out of 25 reviews, and it might fluctuate as more critics share their opinion on the film. Since the movie is set to hit theaters on Friday, it has yet to include an audience score. It's also an interesting mix of superhero stars,...

Tony Gilroy says Andor's opening scene was an open challenge to Disney
Image
From the very first scene, Andor sets itself apart from other Star Wars productions in tone and subtext. It feels darker, grittier, and with higher stakes than ever before. Despite knowing the fate of the main protagonist and a few others, the series makes us care deeply about Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and his allies, as well as enemies.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy manages to evoke almost as many powerful emotions with the scene of Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) in an Imperial prison as with Luthen Rael's (Stellan Skarsgard) lonely, unconscious death. Many scenes that he wrote proved to be highly divisive, including the much-talked-about on-screen sexual assault attempt by an Imperial officer on Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona).

But when it came to keeping the show rooted in the reality of complex socio-cultural and political themes, Gilroy had never really pulled his punches. The first scene of the first season takes place in a brothel,...

‘Andor’s’ Adria Arjona wears her ‘Star Wars’ love on her sleeve
Image
Adria Arjona really let her Andor role, the troubled, tortured freedom fighter Bix Caleen, get under her skin — quite literally: she added a stick-and-poke tattoo representing Bix to her forearm while wrapping up production on the series. But it’s the character and the opportunity to shift the paradigms of her beloved Star Wars universe that truly made an indelible impact on the actress.

Gold Derby was joined by Arjona on the red carpet at an FYC event celebrating the series at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, where she reflected on what Andor has meant to her, how her longtime fandom of the franchise fueled her ability to deepen and darken corners of Star Wars in chilling ways never seen before, and what she hopes the future might hold for both her and for Bix in the galaxy after Andor.

Praise for the second season of Andor continues to come in from all angles. It is coming from fans, critics, and even stars of the series themselves. Adria Arjona, who has worked with many other writers and directors in her career, recently commented on the strength of the writing of series.

The up-and-coming actress, who played Bix Caleen, recently spoke to Awards Radar about her experience working with series creator Tony Gilroy and his writing on the show.

She spoke about the importance of the attempted assault in the third episode, "Harvest". She said it was a tribute to survivors of assault, and it was an important way to frame the scene through the writing.

‘Andor’ Creator Says Disney Spent ‘$650 Million for 24 Episodes’ and ‘We Fought Hard’ for Money After Being Told in Season 2: ‘Streaming Is Dead. We Don’t Have the Money We Had Before’
Image
“Andor” creator Tony Gilroy dropped a bombshell during a recent Q&a at the Atx Television Festival (via IndieWire): The total budget for the 24-episode “Star Wars” series was $650 million, he claimed. Released over two seasons in 2022 and 2025, “Andor” ended its run last month to critical acclaim. The series was a prequel to the 2016 film “Rogue One” (which Gilroy co-wrote) and centered on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, a thief turned rebel spy.

“I mean, [for] Disney this is $650 million,” Gilroy said. “For 24 episodes, I never took a note. We said ‘Fuck the Empire’ in the first season, and they said, ‘Can you please not do that?’ … In Season 2, they said, ‘Streaming is dead, we don’t have the money we had before,’ so we fought hard about money, but they never cleaned anything up. That [freedom] comes with responsibilities.”

The studio had no comment on Gilroy’s budget reveal when asked by Variety.

‘Andor’: Wild Theory of Oscar Isaac’s Poe Related to Cassian Sounds Great but I Hope Never Becomes Canon
Image
The Disney+ show Andor had an explosive finale that tied quite a few plot threads together and also introduced some new ones. The ending of the show introduces Bix’s baby, which is revealed to be the child of Cassian Andor. While the events of Rogue One established that Cassian Andor never got to meet the child, we might have already met him.

A popular theory has been going around fan circles that the child shown along with Bix in the Andor finale is none other than Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron. Poe is also a rebel pilot, and his age also roughly matches the timeline. However, I feel this should not be canonized for several reasons.

Andor's Diego Luna Recalls His Favorite Moment From the Star Wars Series: 'So Intense, Deep and Emotional'

The audience cheered wildly when cast members Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Ben Mendelsohn, Genevieve O’Reilly and executive producers Tony Gilroy and Sanne Wohlenberg arrived for an extended Q&a moderated by comedian and Star Wars fanatic Patton Oswalt.

The Adria Arjona Romantic Crime Movie Andor Fans Need To Watch Next
Image
Adria Arjona just finished up an astonishing run on the second and final season of "Andor" as Bix Caleen, a black market dealer and mechanic who ends up in a romantic entanglement with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) ... but if you want to check out another action-packed romance that stars Arjona, you should absolutely watch "Hit Man."

Richard Linklater's romantic caper released on Netflix in 2024 after the "Before" trilogy director penned the script with his star, Glen Powell. Not only is "Hit Man" a ton of fun, but it's also based (somewhat loosely) on the true story of a Houston college professor who helped the police ensnare anyone looking for a hitman by posing as one, making it even wilder. So, where does Arjona come in?

Powell leads the film as Gary Johnson, a psychology and philosophy professor at a university in New Orleans who, like the subject of Hollandsworth's article,...

Why Bix Left Cassian In Andor Season 2, According To Adria Arjona
Image
"Andor" is officially over, and the future of "Star Wars" is disconcerting. Still, we'll always have that wonderful month when the internet was filled with not just theories but also a profound appreciation for the boldness of Tony Gilroy and his team's efforts in "Andor" (that and a plethora of memes that lightened the mood every week after yet another heartbreaking set of episodes).

Indeed, "Andor" season 2 was both a masterpiece and arguably the greatest "Star Wars" project ever, as well as one of the best TV shows of the 2020s, period. It was also a season of tragedy in which we watched as the Rebel Alliance was formed and swiftly erased its founding father from history. And though we witnessed the death of many a fan-favorite character to boot, one of season 2's most heart-breaking moments didn't actually involve anyone dying. Rather, it was when Bix (Adria Arjona) broke...

Glen Powell’s Post-‘Top Gun’ Aviation Thriller With a 92% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Soars on Free Streaming Charts
Image
Few celebrities have experienced the same rise in popularity as Glen Powell over the last few years, and much of his stardom can be traced back to his role in Top Gun: Maverick. The 2022 Tom Cruise-led legacy sequel grossed well over $1 billion at the box office and introduced fans to Powell’s sharp-tongued Hangman. However, later that year, Powell also starred in another aviation thriller, Devotion, which found new life on streaming after grossing only $21 million against a $90 million budget. Devotion recently began streaming on the free service Tubi, and the film wasted no time becoming a success, reaching #9 on the streamer’s charts at the time of writing. It boasts a “certified fresh” 81% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a “verified hot” 92% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

In addition to Glen Powell, former MCU star Jonathan Majors also stars in Devotion. Majors was poised to be the next...

Netflix Leads TV Season Ratings, but Broadcast Hits Break Up the Block Party
Image
As the 2024-25 TV season winds down, it’s not surprising that Netflix series dominated multiplatform ratings given the streamer’s reach. Still, a number of broadcast hits — from CBS’ “Tracker” and “Matlock” to ABC’s “High Potential” — broke up its domination of the list of most-watched shows.

Netflix accounted for 10 of the top 15 series across broadcast, cable and streaming, with “Squid Game” and “Adolescence” leading the pack with 27.1 million and 19 million viewers, respectively, according to live-plus-35-day viewing figures through April 6.

Broadcasters, however, took over from there, as CBS’ “Tracker” followed in third place with 17.4 million crossplatform viewers, while ABC’s “High Potential” and CBS’ “Matlock” took the No. 5 and 6 spots on the list with 16.1 million viewers and 16 million viewers, respectively.

Christopher Smith for TheWrap

While Prime Video’s “Reacher” (17.3 million) and Paramount+’s “Landman” (15.8 million) snuck into the top 10, Netflix took the No. 8-15 spots with “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,...

Stars and the Sea: THR’s Cannes Film Festival Portfolio With Scarlett Johansson, Harris Dickinson and Zoey Deutch
Image
“Cinema is magic.” So said veteran filmmaker Richard Linklater when the lights came up inside the Grand Lumiére Theatre and he was handed a microphone following an electric 10-minute standing ovation for his Nouvelle Vague, Linklater’s love letter to French moviemaking. But the phrase works when applied to the events of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which once again displayed the big-screen’s spellbinding charms. While this year may have delivered the most politically charged festival in recent memory, the glamour glittered just the same. To capture the stars off the red carpet, The Hollywood Reporter once again partnered with award-winning visual storyteller Julian Ungano for an exclusive festival portfolio. The veteran lensman worked up his own special blend of magic thanks to intimate portraits of Scarlett Johansson and her Eleanor the Great team of June Squibb and Erin Kellyman, Linklater’s French-speaking star Zoey Deutch, Harris Dickinson and his Urchin collaborator Frank Dillane,...

Stellan Skarsgård Had One Request For Luthen Rael's Andor Backstory [Exclusive]
Image
The book has officially closed on the two-season saga of "Andor," but we're not even close to prepared to move on just yet. The second season will likely go down as one of the boldest experiments in all of "Star Wars," and a large part of that is due to the original characters that creator Tony Gilroy introduced to the franchise. In a franchise more obsessed than ever with nostalgia and legacy characters, I'm not sure anyone could've expected coming out of "Andor" with a healthy appreciation for people like Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), or Syril Karn (Kyle Soller).

Out of them all, however, perhaps none stole the show to a greater degree than Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael. The mysterious and utterly ruthless operative brought a whole new flavor of rebellion to our favorite galaxy far, far away. Not only did he play an outsized...

Andor Star Adria Arjona Explains Why Bix Really Left (& Accidentally Roasts One Of My Favorite Star Wars Prequel Heroes)
Image
Bix Caleen leaving Cassian in Andorseason 2 was controversial, especially given Bix and Cassian's baby, but Bix actress Adria Arjona has explained why this plot point was so important. The reveal in the Andor season 2 ending that Bix and Cassian had a baby was truly one of the most shocking moments in the entire show, and it was especially heartbreaking given we know Cassian dies in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Despite the bittersweet nature of this baby's existence, there was controversy around Bix having a baby and leaving Cassian.

Per Collider, Bix Caleen actress Adria Arjona explained that, for Bix, leaving Cassian was a decision she had to make for Cassian, for their child, and for the larger galaxy. Arjona said:

“She sees Cassian going the other route. She’s like, ‘I can't be the reason that he doesn't get to do what he's destined to do.’ Especially if...

“Everyone Was Crying”: ’Andor’s Adria Arjona Reflects on Her Final Day of Filming Season 2 With Diego Luna [Exclusive]
Image
Andor has wrapped up its second season, and although the journey was shorter than Season 1 thanks to a new release schedule, the final outing for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) still hit just as hard. One of the things that makes the show special is the relationship between Cassian and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), which drives the series forward at every turn. At the end of Season 2, we see that Cassian and Bix had a child he’ll never get to meet. During a recent profile with Collider’s Carly Lane, Arjona was asked about her final days filming Andor Season 2, and she spoke about how it aligned with the closing moments of the show:

"My last day on set was Episode 12. We shot the end of the whole show the day before I wrapped, and then the last day was me working in the silos and looking up and realizing...

'Hit Man' Director Richard Linklater's New "Indie" Movie Sells to Netflix
Image
Richard Linklater's commitment to indie filmmaking has to be commended. The director behind major hits like 2023's Hit Man, A Scanner Darkly, and School of Rock is one of the defining indie filmmakers, notable for directing Slacker, Dazed and Confused, and many, many more. His next project, Nouvelle Vague, takes him back to his low-budget roots. But, the film's "indie" label has been put into question, as the film was recently acquired by the biggest streaming platform around: Netflix.

Nouvelle Vague, Richard Linklater's newest film, recently held its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and opened to strong reviews and reactions from critics. At the festival, the film also secured a distributor, but long-time fans of the director might be upset about the choice of studio. Netflix has purchased the distribution rights to Nouvelle Vague for a reported $4 million. The film won't be Linklater's first collaboration with Netflix,...

Andor has been officially submitted to the Emmys
Image
The ball is now rolling to see if Andor will get the big prize: The Emmys. It's been announced that Disney has submitted the series to 23 categories.

Reported by Variety, the Star Wars show is eying the big prizes of Outstanding Drama Series, Directing For A Drama Series, Writing For A Drama Series, and several acting categories. The main focus seems to be around Season 2, episode 8, "Who Are You?" and episode 9, "Welcome to the Rebellion," which focused on the Ghorman Massacre and its aftermath, with Mon Mothma fleeing the Senate. This makes sense as these were the highest praised episodes of the series from fans and critics alike.

Diego Luna is now in the running for Lead Actor In A Drama Series, which Variety also notes might not be Luna's only nomination this year. He's also been submitted for supporting actor (limited series) for the Hulu show La Máquina. It...

Andor Creator Defends Cassian's Romance With Jyn Erso
Image
Tony Gilroy—the creator behind Disney+'s hit Andor series, which focuses on Diego Luna's Rogue One character Cassian Andor—defended Cassian's romance with Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso in the 2016 Star Wars: A New Hope prequel despite now having the context of his prior relationship with Adria Arjona's Bix Caleen. One of the key plot threads throughout the acclaimed Star Wars streaming show was Cassian and Bix's love story, with Arjorna's character ultimately leaving Andor behind in hopes that he would devote himself to the Rebellion.

Speaking as part of a recent interview, Tony Gilroy addressed fan concerns about Cassian's openness to a romance with Jyn Erso in Rogue One coming so soon after his relationship with long-time friend Bix Kaleen. Bix leaving Cassian in Andor Season 2 was one of the defining moments of the series, knowing if she had stayed, Diego Luna's Rebel pilot would have left the cause,...

Cannes Day 11: Finally, Some Awards
Image
Yes, Cannes is still rolling. And no, the Palme d’Or winner has not been crowned (that’ll come later Saturday). Cannes has been going on for so long that “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” a film that screened early in the festival, is now playing on thousands of screens worldwide. But let’s get into the happenings before this year’s festival finally closes out.

Un Certain Regard Regarded

Everyone is always in a tizzy over what will get Cannes’ big award, the Palme d’Or, but just as interesting (perhaps more so) is the competition for the Un Certain Regard, which is run in parallel to the main competition. The goal of Un Certain Regard, which was introduced in 1998, is to give a spotlight to unusual films that take narrative or stylistic risks. And this year was no different.

This year’s top prize winner was “The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo,...

‘Splitsville’ Review: Unruly Screwball Comedy Offers Extreme Scenes From a Marriage
Image
Take it as an informal rule – in cinema as in life – that the couple boasting about their open marriage will probably not make it. As a corollary, take it on faith that the comedy duo of Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin are uniquely adept at mining that premise for laughs. At least from the male perspective.

After rising with the 2019 bro-down “The Climb,” director Covino and his co-star and co-writer Marvin have wed their blustery comic tone with the star power of Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona, yielding the unruly screwball comedy “Splitsville.” If less coiled and emotionally acute than their previous effort, “Splitsville” is every bit as funny – if not more so – often leaving the audience in stitches at the film’s Cannes Film Festival premiere. For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, may this couple stay together forever.

Indeed, the co-writers have taken those vows uniquely to heart,...

Disney Submits ‘Andor’ Season 2 for 23 Emmy Categories and There’s One Where It Must Actually Win
Image
Take out your Lightsabers and cross your fingers because Disney+ just hit the Emmy dream by officially submitting Andor Season 2 for not five, not ten, but 23 Emmy categories! Yep, the highly political Star Wars spin-off is ready to fight for that shiny golden trophy.

After Andor Season 1’s strong Emmy debut, earning eight nominations in 2023, Disney+ seems to be confident about this year’s campaign resonating better with voters, and maybe even securing a win. Therefore, from the Outstanding Drama Series to the directing and writing nods, the show aims to dominate the Emmy event. With voting starting June 12 and nominations dropping July 15, let’s check out at least one category where Andor Season 2 must conquer.

Ryan Reynolds Laments Disney Rejecting His R-Rated Star Wars Movie Pitch
Image
Ryan Reynolds is the man who made Disney R-Rated. His MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine was the first MCU flick to have that age rating, and it was a huge success. So it's only natural that he should try and capitalize on it...and that's extended to pitching Disney an R-rated Star Warsmovie.

Reynolds has never appeared in the Star Wars franchise before, but he thinks it could use a little more maturity. “I pitched to Disney, I said, ‘Why don’t we do an R-rated Star Wars property? It doesn’t have to be overt, A+ characters,'" he said on the Box Office podcast with Scott Mendelson, via Variety. Indeed, it would be very hard for most to imagine Baby Yoda, aka Grogu, in an R-rated movie.

"There’s a wide range of characters you could use," Reynolds went on. “And I don’t mean R-rated to be vulgar.
