Remakes are often maligned among horror fans, but without them we wouldn’t have films like The Fly, The Thing, or The Blob. Granted, for all of the gems there are, there’s an equal measure of awful remakes as well. The line that separates the remakes between great and lackluster usually falls upon the director, their vision, and their intent for the new update. In the case of The Hills Have Eyes, it was original creator Wes Craven that saw an opportunity to update his gritty 1977 film after seeing the success of remakes like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the early aughts.
After watching High Tension, Craven approached director Alexandre Aja and his screenwriting partner Gregory Levasseur about the possibility of updating his film with the caveat that it has a new approach and something worthwhile in justifying its existence in the first place. The collaboration between the horror...

There’s a specific, dusty smell to an old box of tapes that sends me right back to my childhood bedroom, meticulously recording movies off the television. That feeling of holding a physical piece of media, a tangible record of a moment, feels almost alien today.
Man Finds Tape taps directly into that feeling. It begins in the quiet Texas town of Larkin, where Lucas Page unearths a MiniDV tape from his past. The footage is simple yet chilling: an unknown man in his room as he slept, an event he has no memory of. He does what anyone might do in 2025: he starts a YouTube series.
His investigation goes viral, drawing the attention of his estranged sister, Lynn, a documentarian. She returns home, camera in tow, thinking she is there to pull her brother back from an online obsession. Instead, she finds herself at the center of a glitch in reality,...

Hank Northrop, whose casting was first announced in February of this year, is set to make his “Days of our Lives” debut at the end of October, a representative for the daytime drama series has confirmed to Soap Opera Network, although character and storyline details remain under wraps.
Northrop is the son of “General Hospital” star Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe) and the late Wayne Northrop, who played the iconic role of Roman Brady on “Days of our Lives” from 1981-1984 and again from 1991-1994. From 2005-2006, the elder Northrop returned to the series once more but took on the new persona of Dr. Alex North as Roman had already been recast with actor Josh Taylor since 1997.

Apple TV+'s untitled adaptation of Lars Kepler's Joona Linna novels continues to expand its cast, as horror star Rory Culkin joins Liev Schrieber in the streamer's upcoming answer to the Reacher series. Culkin also starred in Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone, Castle Rock, and Signs.
As reported by Deadline, Culkin has joined the cast of Apple TV+'s upcoming, untitled adaptation of the Joona Linna novel series. "Clue" from 1985 is arguably the single greatest movie adaptation of a game ever made, whether video, board, tabletop, or children's game. Even 40 years later, it remains not just a hilarious comedy film in its own right, one of the best detective movies of all time, or even just a fantastic way of taking a familiar product and translating the gameplay to the big screen without sacrificing a good narrative. It is also a rather cool and effective experiment.
It's not like this was some small indie film. There was plenty of reason for optimism when it was announced and made. Jonathan Lynn's "Clue" boasts one hell of a comedic cast that includes Michael McKean, Leslie Ann Warren, Eileen Brannan, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, and Tim Curry.
It follows the barebones premise of the board game: strangers arrive at a mansion and one of them commits a murder.

A burgeoning YouTuber named Lucas Page (William Magnusen) finds a camcorder tape with his name on it in his parents’ house. The tape shows him, as a child, sleeping until two men dressed in black walk into his room, wake him, place something in his mouth, then walk out. Lucas has no memory of this ever taking place. Knowing right away that something is horribly wrong, Lucas starts to dig into where the footage came from—a search for answers that starts to completely unravel his life, and seems to involve his entire town of Larkin, Texas, but especially the evangelical Reverend Endicott (John Gholson).
A camera has caught a monster. But what kind of monster it caught is the real question that Man Finds Tape is concerned with, and the answer figuratively and literally changes shape as it goes on. The film, written and directed by Paul Gandersman and Peter S. Hall,...

Why Kyle Mackey Feels Like The Most Twisted Killer Of Criminal Minds: Evolution (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Criminal Minds: Evolution just unmasked its most gut-churning villain yet, and no, it’s not Voit. The latest unsub doesn’t just kill. He orchestrates death like a twisted stage director, live-streaming slow suffocation from inside rigged coffins. And the worst part? He’s got ties to the monster the Bau already knows too well.
This week’s episode introduces Kyle Mackey, a man weaponizing divorce court rage into full-blown horror. But while the M.O. may scream new, the emotional fingerprints trace back to an old evil—Voit himself. And that’s where things get personal.
What Makes Criminal Minds: Evolution’s Kyle Mackey So Sinister?

Comedian, actor, and interviewer Marc Maron has always had a lot on his mind. If you’ve ever seen his stand-up, you’ve gotten a full dose of his biting reflections on anxieties about the world and his place in it. However, this has always been, to some degree, a performance he’s worked at over months in venues across the country to get ready for a special.
In Steven Feinartz’s documentary “Are We Good?” (playing Tribeca Festival on June 14), we not only see Maron chipping away at this process but glimpse the man behind the mirth simultaneously trying to grieve and use his art as a way of processing the loss of his partner: the late, great filmmaker Lynn Shelton, who died in May 2020. The result would be his 2023 special, “From Bleak to Dark,” which Feinartz also directed and saw Maron grapple with how to engage with this...

With video surveillance and social media at a fever pitch, the time for new takes on found footage is now, and you don’t have to reinvent the smartphone to do it. “Man Finds Tape” uses a traditional lo-fi approach to an elevated horror concept when a strange presence starts zapping minds in the small town of Larkin, Texas.
Written and directed by Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman, the supernatural mystery follows siblings Lynn (Kelsey Pribilski) and Lucas Page (William Magnuson) through a playful reconsideration of the unreliable narrator. The filmmakers’ background as novelists steers their world toward Stephen King territory, occasionally to its detriment. But in the end, their thoroughly imagined script pays off as a well-constructed monster movie — one that freshly challenges the sometimes-freeing, sometimes-suffocating subgenre and format.

Man Finds Tape is a faux-documentary horror show like many others…at first. A man finds a tape (duh) and begins chronicling his investigation into strange happenings, ultimately descending into supernatural madness—but familiarity is short-lived. Writers and directors Paul Gandersman and Peter S. Hall have concocted an Eldritchian ode to The X-Files or Supernatural episodes with a backroads Texas twist. It’s cryptic creepypasta for the YouTube generation, delving into an online conspiracy world of Reddit hoaxes and fraudulent celebrities. On a meager budget and with clever ideas, Man Finds Tape introduces viewers to the chaos of actually finding the truths you seek.
Everything starts when Lucas Page (William Magnuson), a nobody from Larkin, Texas, finds an ominous tape in his childhood barn. He gains notoriety after starting a YouTube series about the tape, which gains overnight popularity. The more comments he receives, the more attention he gets, the more worrisome his videos become.

“Are all monsters a hoax, or is it possible that the monsters that haunt the 21st century hide in plain sight?”
Found footage and mockumentary horror films remain wildly polarizing and they’re subgenres where only the most successful or maligned releases seem to get any attention. For some horror audiences, there’s just too much of a buy-in and suspension of disbelief to truly get lost in found footage storytelling. The subgenre’s “simplicity” and budgetary freedom means that there are endless found footage films that are completely disposable and don’t have anything new to say or contribute. However, there’s been a growing trend of reflexive found footage and mockumentary horror films, like Found Footage 3D, Something in the Dirt, Butterfly Kisses, and Antrum, that strive to use the subgenre’s storytelling aesthetic to dig deeper into the human condition.
There are many opportunities for clever subversions...

The setting is a temple of global commerce, an Apple store in Amsterdam, its clean lines and glass walls suggesting a world of seamless connectivity. Into this space walks Ilian, a Bulgarian visitor on a simple mission to replace his lost AirPods. His mundane errand becomes the inciting incident for iHostage, a film that grounds its terror in the terrifyingly plausible.
A gunman named Ammar enters, fires shots that shatter the minimalist calm, and yanks Ilian into the center of an international crisis. With the Bulgarian as his human shield, Ammar issues his demands: a fortune in cryptocurrency and safe passage.
Outside, police forces scramble to contain the situation. Inside, other customers and employees are scattered, some hiding upstairs, others crammed into a supply closet, all nodes in a network of fear. The film immediately establishes a scenario rooted not in fantasy, but in the specific anxieties of our highly technological and public world.

It’s been 2019 since Ang Lee made Gemini Man. Now, after struggling to get his Bruce Lee biopic going, Old Gold Mountain has been announced.
With two Oscars to his name, and films as successful as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life Of Pi, Brokeback Mountain and Sense & Sensibility to his name, Ang Lee is one of the more revered filmmakers of his generation. And yet: he’s not been able to get a film off the ground for half a decade.
Granted, his last movie was hardly his best, the 2019 Will Smith-headlined Gemini Man, itself a film that was in development for eons, and in truth, probably should have stayed there. Following up the box office disappointment that was 2016’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, it seems that Hollywood has got less keen to give Ang Lee money. His planned biopic of Bruce Lee has been stuck...

General Hospital spoilers for Monday, June 2: Fury
First, General Hospital spoilers reveal Book Lynn unleashes her fury. Last time, Gloria Cerullo (Ellen Travolta) returned and got in the middle of Brook Lynn’s tirade at Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer). This will lead to Brook Lynn wanting to know, “Do you regret giving my baby to Camila?” We assume, based on the teaser, that the answer is not what Brook Lynn wanted to hear. Although, to be fair, we doubt anything either could say will do much good. It was a huge betrayal, and Brook Lynn is still dealing with the emotional fallout being so fresh.

It appears Gio is having a very merry unbirthday during the May 15, 2025 episode of General Hospital.
Birthday Boy
The episode started out with Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) talking out loud to the son she’s never met, hoping he’s having a good day. When Chase (Josh Swickard) caught her, she admitted that today is her son’s birthday. He comforted his wife like he always does, things only got weirder from there.
It being Brook Lynn’s son’s birthday means it’s Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza)… except, when Gio showed up to rehearse his Nurse’s Ball number, there wasn’t a single mention of it being his birthday. He played a Disney princess song for Donna (Scarlett Spears) while Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Lois (Rena Sofer) chatted, and after Donna asked him to perform at her birthday party this year, she asked when his birthday was.

Port Charles may be in for a new mob boss after Sonny and Jason’s big decision on the May 12, 2025 episode of General Hospital.
Wanting Out
Half of Port Charles is currently working together to oust Sonny (Maurice Benard) as the town’s number one mobster. Sidwell (Carlo Rota) is hoping to take the reigns, and is being backed by Drew (Cameron Mathison), Tracy (Jane Elliot), and Jordan (Tanisha Harper). All Sonny has to do is sell his piers over to Sidwell, and he and Jason can officially retire.
Read This: Here’s what’s coming up on Gh.
When Sonny presented this idea to his righthand man, Jason immediately had second thoughts, wondering if putting Sidwell in charge of Port Charles was a smart move. As risky as it is, it may be the only way for Sonny and Jason to get out of the business and keep their families safe.

When it comes to choosing her roles, Judith Light says it ultimately comes down to two key factors: the people she’ll be working with and the deeper meaning behind the character.
“What does my character represent, and how can I carry this character to the audience in a way that gives them some insight into this person?” she explains.
Those guiding principles led Light to one of her most recent projects, the Apple TV+ limited series Before, in which she stars opposite Billy Crystal. The show follows Eli (Crystal), a child psychiatrist grappling with the recent death of his wife, Lynn — played by Light — whose presence lingers as he processes grief and memory.
“I always knew I wanted to work with Billy,” Light says. “And when Before came about, the dynamics of it, the story, and my interest in reincarnation really drew me to the project.”

General Hospital spoilers say that a lot of people can’t help but ask this same question: does Dante (Dom Zamprogna) have the right to know about Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) pregnancy?
Dante Has The Right To Know The Truth
Or better yet, did he have a right to know about the baby after Lois (Rena Sofer) decided to take matters into her own hands? Clearly, everyone seems to be very split about this.
Clearly, Dante had a right to know and be involved in the decision-making to determine whether he wanted to give up his child for adoption or pursue the option of raising him with the support of his family.
As our fans can imagine, the internet certainly did have a lot to say about the matter.
Some fans have even commented with, “Well, if she had decided to raise the baby he would’ve been responsible financially for the child.

Having gone through Director Bobby Boermans’ iHostage, I am a bit confused whether to appreciate the crude/tasteless humor conveyed by the title of the movie, which satirizes hyper-consumerism by slapping product tags on a real-life hostage crisis, or to use this point to have my already mediocre experience watching the movie ruined even further. Based on the 2022 Amsterdam Apple store hostage situation, iHostage re-enacts the event as a methodical, elaborate police procedural, and even though there is a conscious effort to humanize the characters involved, both perpetrator and victims, but as a viewer you can’t help but feel distanced due to the bare minimum efforts dedicated to the characterization. The documentary-level authenticity shown through the buildup, ramping up the tension definitely deserves acknowledgement, but there exists an emotional gap that contributes to an overall disconnect in the narrative.

Toward the end of his life, film critic Roger Ebert saved some of his most lavish praise for a young graduate of Columbia University who devoted his early career to making the kinds of movies not often promoted in the USA. Ramin Bahrani came straight out of the Ken Loach school of progressive storytelling, focusing on the lives and struggles of working-class people, the poor, and the displaced.
If you hurry, you can catch what may be Bahrani’s most crucial movie – 99 Homes – before it leaves Netflix at the end of April.
I don’t know if 99 Homes – released in 2014, a year after Ebert’s death – is Bahrani’s best movie. His three-picture run between 2005 and 2008, which included Man Push Cart, Chop Shop, and Goodbye Solo, is as good an early trio as you will find from an American director in the 21st century.

Netflix’s crime drama, iHostage, is a cinematic adaptation of the Amsterdam Apple Store hostage incident. Given the fact that Dutch director Bobby Boermans witnessed the events unfold in real time back in 2022, it is no wonder that the movie never lacked authenticity in its reenactment of the crisis. To add on to the dramatic elements, the movie focused on several characters—all of whom are shown to be connected with the central crisis in one way or another, thereby imbuing the necessary human touch that allows viewers the perspective to assess the crisis. However, the characterization isn’t developed as much as it should have been to make viewers feel sympathetic to the plight of either the victims/hostages or the perpetrator in question—which is a missed opportunity, to say the least.

You see, there’s a reason why Netflix’s iHostage claims that it’s inspired by a true story and not based on one. Director Bobby Boermans and writer Simon de Waal have made a few noticeable changes to the true story, mostly to protect the privacy of the hostages and the authorities involved in the hostage situation. The Bulgarian man who was held hostage at gunpoint by the armed hostage-taker, Abdel Rahman Akkad, pleaded with the local channels and newspaper to remove his name from their reports so he could go back to his normal life and try his best to forget the horrors he was put through on February 22, 2022. As far as the Dsi officers and police negotiators are concerned, their names have been altered as well, though many of these officials have given numerous interviews to various media outlets after the incident, sharing how they contained the...

After having seen numerous tech products termed as revolutionary simply because they have a lowercase ‘i’ in front of them, owing to the proprietary naming conventions of Apple, we are finally set to watch iHostage, a new Dutch film streaming on Netflix. As the name suggests, the film’s plot has very much to do with the multi-billion-dollar tech company (Apple would have surely sued the makers otherwise), for it concerns a terrible hostage situation that took place at an Apple Store in Amsterdam in February of 2022. While the premise and the overall storyline in iHostage are quite interesting, the lack of depth or perspective means that we cannot empathize with either side, so it makes for an average watch.

There is this misconception that a documentary (or docuseries) based on a true story is supposed to just convey information, while a feature film (or a TV series) based on a true story is supposed to not just convey information but also move us emotionally. But if you have watched enough documentaries, docuseries, feature films, and shows, you know that it’s not as simple as that. Facts and interviews can be presented in a way that compels you to think about the subject in a certain manner even though you don’t know if you are getting the full picture. Meanwhile, fictionalized recreations can focus solely on data and statistics, without having the need to dabble in melodrama, and still be effective. That said, regardless of the genre one chooses to tell a true story, the thing that matters the most is the intent behind it. What is the...
