Will Stephen Nedoroscik Continue the Winning Streak Olympians Have on #DWTS?
Image
Whenever they competed on Dancing With the Stars, Olympians, especially gymnasts and figure skaters, ended up near the top of the leaderboard.

Now, two-time bronze model Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik joins Season 33. Will he follow the trend of winning the Golden Mirrorball Trophy or come close, like his teammates, including fellow gymnast Laurie Hernandez, who won Season 23?

Let’s discuss his odds of winning.

(Disney/Andrew Eccles) Olympians Have More Skills and Focus

Most Olympians possess more drive and focus, but gymnasts and figure skaters feature grace, musicality, and tumbling skills that many other stars don’t have.

Shawn Johnson was one of the youngest competitors to win Dancing With the Stars during Season 8. When she returned for the All-Stars season, she was the runner-up.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ adds Olympic medalist Stephen Nedoroscik to season 33
Image
American pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik captured hearts at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris when he performed during the men’s gymnastics team final, and soon he’ll try to bring that new fan base over to the ballroom. In line with our recent Olympic suggestions, it was just announced that he will compete in the upcoming 33rd season of the amateur dance competition series “Dancing with the Stars.”

Nedoroscik was famously a specialist at these Olympic Games: his only event was the pommel horse, so he was added to the team solely to produce a high score on that apparatus. That put even more pressure on him; the last thing you want is to have just one job and not be able to deliver for your team. Further increasing the stress level, the pommel horse was the last apparatus for Team USA, and Nedoroscik was the very last gymnast to perform,...

Past Olympic Gymnast Medal Winners: Where Are They Now?
Image
The 2024 Paris Olympics have been glorious for gymnasts, with stunning routines from USA’s Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles and Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who became the first female gymnast from her country to win a medal at the Olympics.

They join the ranks of the most celebrated and most talked about gymnasts in Olympic history: Women who changed the sport, who made headlines and who we will never forget. Here’s what these famous female athletes have done since gracing the Olympics stage.

At age 15, Olga won four gold medals and two silver medals at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games. The “Sparrow From Minsk” helped transform gymnastics into the must-watch blend of athleticism and aesthetics that are now standard for the sport. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1991 and became a citizen in 2000. Korbut became a gymnastics trainer and was...

Olympics Breakout Laurie Hernandez on Shedding Tears, Calling Out Haters and Her Viral Seth Rogen Moment
Image
Laurie Hernandez is proving she’s as much of a natural at commentating the Olympics as she was when competing in them.

The 24-year-old media personality has been earning scores of praise this summer for her enthusiastic, insightful and down-to-earth broadcast work as a color commentator for NBC’s coverage of women’s artistic gymnastics events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hernandez has plenty of experience handling Olympic pressure, having won a gold medal as a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team known as the “Final Five” at the 2016 Rio Olympics — alongside teammate Simone Biles — in addition to an individual silver medal for the balance beam that year.

She is also no stranger to the media spotlight, having won the Dancing With the Stars season 23 title in 2016 following the Olympics, in addition to co-hosting American Ninja Warrior Junior and voicing roles on such animated series as The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Jeremy Allen White Has Been Texting Bruce Springsteen About Boss Biopic, Plans to Attend London Show: ‘I’m Really Excited to See Him Perform’
Image
Worlds might collide in London this Saturday, should the Boss meet the Bear.

As Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White warmed his voice and practiced his guitar to prepare for the Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” he initially kept a distance from his storied subject to better ease into the role.

“I’m trying to have a bit of my own process,” he told Variety in June. “I wanna try to have an understanding, so when I meet him, I’ll have a bit of confidence somewhere in me to stand there.”

That day may soon be near. Speaking from the red carpet at a glitzy, pre-Olympics bash held at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, White revealed that he and Springsteen have now “texted and emailed” and might finally meet in person after Springsteen’s show at London’s Wembley Stadium this Saturday.

“I’m really excited to see him perform,...

Diversity and Representation on the 2024 US Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team
Image
The best gymnasts in the nation are heading to Paris to represent America in the 2024 Summer Olympics. The gymnastics competition will feature three categories: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampolining. Artistic gymnastics will take place at the Bercy Arena from July 27 to August 5. In past Olympic trial years, the selection process was far more complicated, but significant modifications were made after the 2020 Summer Olympics. This year, the artistic gymnastics team event will see a maximum of five gymnasts eligible to participate, a change from Tokyo 2020, where each team consisted of four gymnasts and two individual competitors. Women’s artistic gymnastics consists of four individual events, each requiring distinct skills and strengths: balance beam, floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars. These events demand coordination, focus, accuracy, strength, and agility. Since 2005, scoring has combined a D score (difficulty/content of the exercise) and an E score (execution) to better differentiate athletes' performances.

Simone Biles Heads for 2024 Olympics in Netflix Documentary: “I Get to Write My Own Ending”
Image
Simone Biles is back in the gym in Netflix’s first trailer for Simone Biles Rising, a four-part documentary following the gymnast’s journey to Olympics 2024.

“I’ve always had really good intuition about things,” Biles says in the trailer’s opening. “Unfortunately I felt that way about the Olympics.”

The star athlete is presumably talking about the 2020 Tokyo games, where Biles withdrew from competition after battling mental blocks and eventually announced she was taking a mental health break. The logline for Simone Biles Rising calls the documentary “one of the most powerful comebacks in history.”

The trailer includes footage of Biles seemingly making the decision to stop competing in 2020, and later returning to the gym to set her sights on Paris 2024.

“I wanted to quit like 500,000 times, and I would have if it weren’t for my people,” Biles says. In the trailer, fans see clips of fellow Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman,...

Image
Netflix released the trailer for Simone Biles Rising, a four-part documentary chronicling the gymnast’s return to the Olympics, on Wednesday. The preview drops a month ahead of the Paris Olympics, in which Biles plans to compete.

Biles pulled out of several competitions, including the team and all around finals, at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after suffering from the “twisties,” a term gymnasts use to describe a disorienting condition that inhibits their ability to twist. In the trailer, Biles wipes away tears as she reflects on the unexpected exit from the...

Hulu New Releases: December 2022
Image
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And with its list of new releases for December 2022, Hulu is planning accordingly.

Compared to its rival streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and HBO Max, Hulu is a bit more holiday forward in the final month of 2022. Sure, all the streaming services are bringing some Christmas content to the table, but Hulu is the only one to plant its flag in a special called It’s a Wonderful Binge. This comedic take on a psychedelic Purge-like Christmas is set to premiere on Dec. 8.

Elsewhere on Hulu this month, subscribers can look forward to the release of FX’s Kindred (Dec. 13). Based on a thrilling novel of the same name, this series follows a woman being violently yanked back and forth in time. In what’s increasingly become a tradition, Canadian comedy Letterkenny will premiere a new season the day after Christmas.

Livvy Dunne is ushering in the cozy fall vibes.

The Louisiana State University gymnast updated her Instagram Stories earlier this week with a cute denim and crop top outfit as she slipped back into her ambassador shoes for one of the brands she fronts.

Livvy, 19, might have kicked off her career flipping across mats, but with rising celebrity status, she’s now signed to brands including Plantfuel, Forever 21, Vuori Clothing, and American Eagle.

One image showed the blonde kneeling down while indoors on light carpeted floors.

Livvy modeled a light acid wash pair of jeans, pairing them with an itty-bitty and olive green crop top as she rocked the braless trend.

Olivia Wilde Breaks Silence on ‘Vicious’ CinemaCon Ambush: ‘It Was My Workplace’
Image
This past April, Olivia Wilde was excited to introduce her upcoming film, “Don’t Worry Darling,” to theater exhibitors at CinemaCon, a ticketed industry convention.

Mickey Guyton Performs Empowerment Anthem Backed by Women Athletes at ESPYs
Image
Mickey Guyton lent her voice to an empowering tribute to women in sports and the strides they've made - and the ground left to cover - at the 2022 Espy Awards on July 20. During the Los Angeles-hosted award show, numerous women athletes took the stage to address the 50th anniversary of the Title XI legislation, which went into effect in 1972 and prohibits sex-based discrimination in any federally funded educational programs.

Guyton's performance of her 2020 track "What Are You Going to Tell Her?" was preceded by legendary tennis player Billie Jean King, who questioned the audience, "How do you measure 50 years? In the wins? In the number of obstacles you've overcome? The distance still to go?" Title XI "changed the game, but it's just a start," King said before Guyton began singing.

Image
Click here to read the full article.

Chloe Kim has her sights set on Hollywood. The snowboarding star and two-time Olympic Gold medalist has signed with Anonymous Content for management representation with the intent of broadening her resume with acting work.

She’s dabbled in on-screen work already, having appeared in Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” music video, in a cameo opposite Hailee Steinfeld, Aly Raisman and Lili Reinhart in the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot directed by Elizabeth Banks, and as a semi-finalist on the reality competition series The Masked Singer.

But Kim is obviously best known for her gold medal-winning talents. At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Kim became the first female in history to win back-to-back gold medals in the halfpipe event, following a 2018 victory. The first gold notched a place in the history books as it made Kim the youngest woman (at 17) to win an Olympic snowboarding medal.

How Lifetime Got Into Business With Janet Jackson & Emerged as a Safe Space for Women to Speak Their Truth
Image
Janet Jackson is infamously press shy. The pop icon rarely speaks about her personal life. But this year, she finally broke her silence: in a documentary on Lifetime.

“For her to want to open up, I’m flabbergasted,” says rapper and Jackson collaborator Q-Tip, one of the many marquee names who appeared on screen in Lifetime’s four-hour event, which debuted this year to celebrate of the 40th anniversary of her first album. Whoopi Goldberg, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Regina Hall, Tyler Perry and Samuel L. Jackson also jumped at the chance to appear in the television venture.

Pretty good for a network that, in recent memory, was known for Christmas pics and made-for TV movies.

Over the past few years, Lifetime has emerged as a formidable player in the documentary space, particularly for sensitive and complex female storytelling. Lifetime prides itself on being a network for women, by women; with that,...

Olympic Gymnasts Seek 1 Billion from FBI for Botched Larry Nassar Investigation, Lawyer Says Abuse Survivors Want ‘the Truth’
Image
The victims of Larry Nassar are begging the public — and the federal government — not to look away from what happened to them. Together, they demanded damages totaling over 1 billion. The claimants include Olympic and Team USA gymnasts Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, and Maggie Nichols.

Simone Biles, Aly Raisman & More Seeking 1 Billion From FBI Over Mishandling of Larry Nassar Case
Simone Biles in Rio 2016: Games of the XXXI Olympiad (2016)
A group of 90 women—including U.S. Olympic team gymnasts Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney—are seeking more than 1 billion in damages from the FBI. The women claim the bureau mishandled its sexual abuse investigation of former U.S. Olympic team doctor Larry Nassar. According to a press release by the claimants' legal team, the women filed federal collective administrative claims against the FBI on June 8 alleging that they were still being abused by Nassar despite already reporting his behavior to the bureau in 2015. The claimants say the FBI "was grossly derelict in their duties" by choosing not to interview gymnasts who were...

There is no shortage of documentaries to enjoy on television these days and the Emmy races for non-fiction categories are poised to reflect that. The creative forces behind four of those documentaries and series joined our recent Meet the Experts panel that covered subjects that included chronicling survivors of sexual abuse, celebrities reading letters from people whose lives were changed by them, the career of America’s top infectious disease doctor and a multi-level marketing company that specialized in women’s leggings.

In our roundtable conversation, we hear what the directors and producers behind these projects got them interested in making non-fiction material and the documentaries that leave them feeling good. Gold Derby recently discussed this and more with Aly Raisman (“Ally Raisman: Darkness to Light”), Donny Jackson (“Dear…”), John Hoffman and Janet Tobias (“Fauci”) and Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason (“LuLaRich”).
