Shifting Gears is quickly proving that Tim Allen’s latest sitcom isn’t afraid to lean into nostalgia, because clearly, it's working for them. The new ABC comedy has already welcomed several guest stars with ties to Allen’s past projects, including Dharma & Greg’sJenna Elfman andLast Man Standing’sJay Leno—but it was the return of Nancy Travis that made longtime fans take notice. Travis, who played Vanessa Baxter opposite Allen’s Mike Baxter for a decade on Last Man Standing, recently guest-starred on Shifting Gears as Charlotte, a widow who crosses paths with Allen’s character Matt Parker at his late wife’s gravesite. And according to Travis, she’d be happy to come back. Based on what we saw in her brief appearance, her return will be a welcome one.

Another Last Man Standing reunion episode is in the works for Tim Allen's new sitcom Shifting Gears. However, unlike the recently aired Valentine's Day episode, the returning Last Man Standing alum was not a main cast member during the show's nine-season run on ABC/Fox.
Per Screen Rant, in an upcoming episode of Shifting Gears, Allen will reunite with Jay Leno, who made recurring appearances in Last Man Standing as semi-retired auto technician Joe Leonard in the show's final five seasons. However, Allen and Leno's working relationship goes back even further than that, with Leno having made two guest appearances as himself on Allen's first sitcom, Home Improvement, in the 1980s. Leno will appear in the March 12 episode of Shifting Gears, titled "Gummies," as himself, with the storyline seeing the former Tonight Show bringing his car into Allen's character's car restoration shop, Parker Customs, for repair. It's not just the characters in Tim Allen's sitcom Shifting Gears that are settling into their new family dynamic. The set featured in the ABC show has also gone through a few changes.
Speaking to IndieWire, production designer Stephan Olson explained that changes to the Parker's living room have been very intentional, since any home would evolve when new and returning family members take up residence. Tim Allen is undeniably one of the small screen's most illustrious and successful stars, with the funny man having memorably headlined two of television's greatest sitcoms: the '90s juggernaut Home Improvement and the 2010s hit Last Man Standing. Allen has made the sitcom genre his bread and butter, winning numerous accolades, like a Golden Globe and People's Choice Award for his unforgettable work. He also famously starred as Buzz Lightyear in the beloved Toy Story animated series and as Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause franchise.
In 2025, Allen made his dazzling return to television with Shifting Gears, appearing alongside famous faces like Kat Dennings, Sean William Scott, and Daryl "Chill" Mitchell and portraying a widower and auto shop owner who is reunited with his estranged daughter and her two children after she decides to move home and regroup after separating from her husband. From the 1990s through the 2000s, it was common to see over-the-top character comedies set in pro sports. Dodgeball, Baseketball, and Semi-Pro helped define over a decade of sports films, each parodying the larger sports complex in turn. The Gutter — directed by Isaiah and Yassir Lester — takes aim at the environment around sports superstardom. At the same time, it features enough absurd and boisterous comedy that it delivers the laughs. While The Gutter runs out of steam occasionally, leaning too heavily into tropes when it does, the overall result is a surprisingly fun comedy.

When the late, legendary filmmaker William Friedkin called Kiefer Sutherland to gauge his interest in playing the lead in the Showtime and Paramount+ film The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, the actor hung up almost immediately. But not because he wasn’t interested in working with the director he’d long revered, Sutherland explained. “I thought it was one of my friends making a joke.”
During Sutherland’s appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television panel alongside producers Annabelle Dunne and Matt Parker, Sutherland revealed that Friedkin had exerted a powerful influence on his professional path from an early age.

‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial’ Trailer: William Friedkin’s Swan Song Is a Military Courtroom Drama
William Friedkin’s final feature “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial” is debuting on Showtime.
Friedkin, who died in August 2023 at age 87, wrote and directed the adaptation of Herman Wouk’s 1953 play, itself adapted from his own Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The film version, which takes place entirely inside a courtroom, follows a U.S. naval first officer (Jake Lacy) standing trial for orchestrating a mutiny after his captain (Kiefer Sutherland). The captain showed signs of becoming unstable and, the first office alleges, jeopardized the lives of his crew. Jason Clarke portrays skeptical naval lawyer Barney Greenwald who agrees to defend Lacy’s character, Lt. Steve Maryk.
As the trial progresses, Greenwald becomes increasingly concerned and questions if the events aboard the Caine were deemed a true mutiny or simply the courageous acts of a group of sailors who did not trust their unstable leader.

"Imaginationland" is a unique entry in the history of South Park. Splitting focus between a petty Cartman/Kyle fight and a surprisingly epic storyline centered around Butters, "Imaginationland" was the first three-part story in the Comedy Central series' history. But it was actually almost released on a far larger scope.
During development, "Imaginationland" almost became the second South Park movie, befitting its massive scale. Creators Trey Stone and Matt Parker decided against that route, and instead refitted it to work within Season 11 of the long-running animated show. But while "Imaginationland" may not have been the South Park movie follow-up that fans have spent years waiting for, it still had a major effect on the growth of the series.

Showtime has successfully petitioned the Television Academy to switch its Emmy submission for the acclaimed docuseries “Couples Therapy” to outstanding structured reality program, Variety has learned exclusively.
During its two previous seasons, the series had been offered in the unstructured reality category, where it competed with shows such as National Geographic’s “Life Below Zero,” TLC’s “90 Day Fiancé” and Hulu’s “The Kardashians.” However, it failed to receive recognition during its respective years. Notably, the show did win a major prize from the Television Critics Association (TCA) Award in 2021 for outstanding achievement in reality programming.

The Denver Broncos have placed characters from South Park into their virtual crowd at the Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. The show's creators, Matt Parker and Trey Stone, are huge fans of the NFL team since they grew up in Colorado, which is also where they met and created the long-running animated comedy. The character cutouts were added to the stadium, along with a backdrop of the animated town. Additionally, all of the characters are wearing masks.
