Inés Palou

Inés Palou (Agramunt, 1923-Gélida, 1975) was a Spanish novelist of the post-war generation, author of two novels: Carne apaleada and Operación Dulce.
The writer, whose style is characterized by short and quick sentences, exposed in her work her experience in women's prisons during Franco's regime, where she spent several years imprisoned for a crime of fraud. She also wrote in prison's magazine Redemption. When she was already released, and faced with the possibility of entering in prison again, she decided to commit suicide by throwing herself onto the train tracks.
The bloody outcome of the writer's life prompted the film adaptation of her first novel, Carne apaleada (Dir. Javier Aguirre, 1978), the ending of which recreates her last and extreme decision. Before committing suicide, she sent a letter to the editor José Manuel Lara.
