The WWE Women’s Division has reached an entirely new level in recent years. However, this wasn’t always the case. Not long ago, the division was known as the “WWE Divas” division, an era that often prioritized glamour over in-ring performance. Even during that time, Saraya-Jade Bevis stunned the WWE Universe with her exceptional wrestling ability.
While women’s wrestling has evolved significantly in the modern era, Saraya and a select group of talented performers helped raise the standard during a time when in-ring quality wasn’t always the primary focus. Their efforts laid the foundation for the revolution that would follow, as they dominated the division and proved that women could steal the show just as effectively as their male counterparts.

Paige or Saraya Jade Bevis has been one of the most controversial superstars in the WWE. In 2014, she made her main roster debut on the night of Raw and defeated Aj Lee to become Divas Champion. She was one of the youngest champions then, being just 21.
Though she was a promising talent, many controversies surrounded her, and even injuries did not spare her, and she may be one of WWE’s forgotten talents now. The WWE made their distance after various leaked videos about her presence online, and the implication of drugs was also not in her favor. However, she has released a book talking about everything.

Pro-wrestling has seen some incredible stars in the making regarding the women’s division. Saraya-Jade Bevis, aka Paige, has revolutionised WWE’s women’s roster before taking a brief hiatus from the sport. However, she returned to the squared circle under the banner of Aew and ran a fine stint before her contract expired.
Being an integral part of the Women’s Revolution, these two traded heavy blows for the Divas Championship multiple times before Paige eventually shifted to other rivalries featuring Charlotte Flair, Nikki Bella, Sasha Banks, and the Bella Twins.

Drugs, alcohol, leaked photos and sex tapes, toxic relationships, an almost career-ending neck injury. Saraya-Jade Bevis could have easily been just another one of those celebrity cautionary tales, but instead somehow the WWE alum known as Paige made it to the other side. She shares her harrowing story in the memoir “Hell in Boots: Clawing My Way Through Nine Lives.” The book’s release in March came at the end of her chapter with All Elite Wrestling. A place where the Norwich, England native won the Women’s Championship in 2023 before a record-breaking crowd of London friends, family and fans at Al In inside Wembley Stadium. It’s been quite the career for the trailblazer who became the first-ever Nxt Women’s Champion and youngest WWE title holder at age 21 winning the Divas gold. Paige has always been a name that has ushered in a new era in the history of women’s wrestling. The arrival of Paige alongside Aj Lee somewhat paved the path for a madness gimmick, a role that has been portrayed by very few individuals across the history of WWE. Also, the brutality that Paige could inflict upon her counterparts in the form of a street brawl was a new way in women’s pro wrestling.
Saraya Jade-Bevis, aka Paige, started her wrestling career in the independent circuit. In 2011, she signed with WWE Nxt, establishing herself as a reckoning force. She also went on to win the Nxt Championship before finally making her WWE main roster debut in 2014, the night after WrestleMania.

Her rivalry with Aj Lee was simply sensational, while her brief battles with Charlotte Flair were a testimony to her in-ring flair.

Saraya-Jade Bevis, better known as Paige/Saraya, has been wrestling for almost two decades. Born into a wrestling family, Saraya debuted at the age of 13. Her family was considered “crazy,” and they were. Saraya’s mother was a wrestler, and her father was a wrestling promoter.
They were accused of abusing trainees in their academy, among other things. A documentary on them called Wrestlers: Fighting with my Family was also released. Despite all of that craziness, Saraya rose in the industry rapidly.
She signed with WWE at 18 and became part of a budding women’s division at Nxt. As Paige, she was the first-ever Nxt Women’s Champion. Then, on her main roster debut, she won the now-defunct Divas Title. Post her 2014-15 run, where she won 2 titles and became the head of her faction (Pcb), she couldn’t sustain her momentum. Injuries and suspensions slowed her down.

How Did Saraya-Jade Bevis Deal With Her Leaked Tape Controversy? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Saraya-Jade Bevis once ruled the ring. But in 2017, her world came crashing down. A leaked s** tape turned her life into a nightmare. “I didn’t really want to be alive anymore,” she alluded. She was just 19 when it happened. One moment, she was a rising WWE star. The next, her most private moments were all over the internet. “The person that I was with at the time showed me a picture on Twitter,” she recalled per Unilad.
“I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’ I was like, ‘Is that real?’” It was. And there was no escaping it. Bevis panicked. She bolted out of the house and kept running, literally. She hid in a bush, terrified that someone would recognize her. At the time, she was already battling addiction. Cocaine, alcohol, and now, public humiliation. “That...

A version of this story on Florence Pugh first appeared in the Actors/Directors/Screenwriters issue of TheWrap Oscar magazine.
It’s a rainy day in downtown Los Angeles, and an upstairs lounge at the Ace Hotel is dark and moody. But the place brightens when Florence Pugh walks in — not just because of her puffy-sleeved white dress, but because the 23-year-old actress has has a lively, irreverent energy that befits somebody who’s had a crazy breakthrough year that found her starring in not one but three critically acclaimed films, including a pivotal part in Greta Gerwig’s eagerly anticipated adaptation of “Little Women.”
“She’s wildly, outlandishly talented and fascinating to watch and totally unafraid as an actor,” Gerwig said. “There is something about her that can’t be knocked down or overtaken, and that’s incredibly telling in a young woman. And I think it’s very exciting,...

If you’re a fan of wrestling, this film is for you. If you’re not a fan of wrestling, this film is for you. Yes, this is a film about a family that loves, lives and breathes everything about World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), but more than that it’s about a family finding out what really matters.
Written, produced and directed by Stephen Merchant, the film is inspired by the Channel 4 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family and tells the story of WWE star Paige (aka Saraya-Jade Bevis) and her real-life family.
The story follows reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia and their children, daughter Saraya and son Zak, as they struggle to make a living as wrestlers in tiny venues around the UK. After years of chasing the family dream, Saraya and Zak finally get the chance to audition for the WWE’s training programme.

WWE Superstar Paige never anticipated that a movie would be made about her life at the age of 26, and she said it’s “surreal” for Stephen Merchant’s “Fighting With My Family” to finally be released.

While Hollywood is full of underdog-athletes tales, it has very few films that center on women in sports and even fewer about women in male-dominated sports. Entering the ring is “Fighting With My Family,” delivering a funny, heartfelt, and refreshing origin story inspired by the real life career and family of the WWE’s Paige (real name: Saraya-Jade Bevis).
The film opens on two young siblings intensely watching WWE wrestling, featuring The Rock, on TV. A change of pace from the usual action-driven output from WWE studios, “Fighting With My Family” at times more closely brings to mind 2000’s guilty-pleasure comedy “Ready to Rumble,” one of the few filmmaking ventures by the wrestling conglomerate’s then-rival WCW. The current film has some of the same crotch-kick-level humor, and much of the same shameless brand self-promotion, if regrettably none of David Arquette’s inimitable spazardry. But there’s less guilt in this pleasure — in fact, it’s probably the best of the 50-odd movies WWE has produced since 2002’s “The Scorpion King,” which starred this film’s producer, Dwayne Johnson, who steps briefly into the action here.

Dwayne Johnson unveiled the official poster for Fighting with My Family on social media this morning. Additionally, the studio has released some new stills from the upcoming movie about WWE superstar Paige's life. The latest promotional material comes after the first trailer was released last month, showcasing the comedic aspect of the story. Johnson serves as a producer on the project, which was in development for quite a bit before production officially started.
The Fighting With My Family poster features Paige, played by Florence Pugh, front and center with Dwayne Johnson by her side. As for the first photo, it features young Paige holding her replica Divas Championship Belt in her room, as she dreams about breaking into the pro wrestling world. The second photos shows Paige in the ring with her brother Zak (played by Jack Lowden) as they try out for the WWE. Johnson had this to say about the movie.

The first trailer for Fighting with My Family is here. The movie chronicles the rise of WWE superstar Paige and comes from Dwayne Johnson, who produces through his own Seven Bucks Productions. But the real appeal for wrestling fans is that Johnson also stars in the movie as himself, revisiting his wrestling days as The Rock. Beyond that, it also looks like this could be something to look forward to in early 2019.
We see a family obsessed with professional wrestling, with two young siblings who dream of someday competing on the biggest stage in the WWE. One fateful day, the call actually comes in and a brother and sister are given the opportunity of a lifetime. However, when just one of them, Paige (whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis), gets chosen, it creates a lot of tension with her brother Zak. Amidst the drama, a great deal of comedy is sprinkled in.

“Fighting With My Family” is based on the story of WWE star Paige, with Florence Pugh starring and Jack Lowden playing her brother. The film also stars Lena Headey and Nick Frost. Johnson portrays himself in the film, while Vince Vaughn is portraying Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Stephen Merchant is directing from his own script, inspired by the Channel 4 documentary “The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family.”
Production companies are Seven Bucks Productions, which Johnson co-founded with Dany Garcia; Misher Films; WWE Studios; and Film4. Kevin Misher of Misher Films will produce alongside WWE Studios president Michael Luisi. Merchant will executive produce with Johnson. A day after announcing her retirement from the WWE ring, Paige was named general manager of “SmackDown Live” on Tuesday.
She replaces former Gm Daniel Bryan, who returned to in-ring action at WrestleMania Sunday night after being medically cleared to return following a two-year absence.
Paige, who’s real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis, was the first Nxt Women’s Champion. She is best known for making her WWE TV debut at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans the night after WrestleMania 30. It was there that she defeated Aj Lee to become WWE Divas Champion and the company’s youngest double champion at age 20.

In that same stadium, Paige announced on “Monday Night Raw” this week that despite her attempts over the past two years to return to the ring, she had no choice to retire due to a series of neck injuries. The most recent was sustained during a match in December, when Paige suffered an impact injury from a kick, forcing the referee to stop the match.

Now Paige will be able to continue appearing for WWE in a non-wrestling role, as Tuesday’s “SmackDown” kicked off with an announcement from Shane McMahon that she would be the show’s new authority figure. Other wrestlers, like Bryan and WWE commentator Corey Graves, have taken similar paths as the company has retained wrestlers to take positions outside the ring after career-ending injuries.
Born in Norwich, England, Paige began her wrestling career in 2005 at the age of 13, serving as the tag team partner for her mother, Saraya Knight. After a career on the European indie circuit in which she competed against her mother for championships, she signed a contract with WWE in 2011. Her career will be the focus of a film being produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson called “Fighting With My Family,” which comes out in September.

Netflix’s “Glow” arrives at a time when women who step inside the squared circle are taken much more seriously than they were 30 years ago.
The show re-creates the world of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, the campy all-female promotion whose 1980s heyday is fictionalized in the new series starring Alison Brie. Fittingly, its subject helped start that process three decades ago.
Last weekend’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view was emblematic of the current state of women’s wrestling in WWE, both in terms of how far it’s come and how much further it still has to go. On the one hand, it featured the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match (progress!), which guarantees the winner a championship match at the time of her choosing. On the other hand, it ended when a dude named James Ellsworth ascended the ladder and dropped the briefcase down...

Vince Vaughn has hopped on board Dwayne Johnson's film based on a true-life superstar in the WWE world. Fighting With My Family is a wrestling film about the family of WWE superstar Paige, who began traveling and wrestling with her family in England at age 13. Deadline reports Vaughn will co-star alongside Johnson, Lena Headey, and Nick Frost in the dramedy. The film itself takes further inspiration from a Channel 4 documentary of the same name.
I'm pretty excited about this film! As a wrestling fan, I always thought it was crazy that Paige (whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis) was placed within the world of wrestling at such a young age. It's safe to say her upbringing, and that of other children of wrestlers like The Rock, was significantly different than ours! The film has no release date yet, but we'll keep you in the loop!

Update:Lena Headey and Nick Frost have joined the cast.
Stephen Merchant will direct the Rock in a adaption of real life British wrestler Saraya-Jade Bevis aka Paige. 'Fighting with my Family' will also star Florence Pugh as the young wrestler.
Paige (real name Saraya-Jade Bevis), now 24, was born into a family of wrestlers in Norwich; her mother kept up the bouts unwittingly well into her pregnancy. In 2005, at the age of 13, Bevis made her debut in the World Association of Wrestling, a promotion run by her family. She is a two-time Divas Champion and was the inaugural Nxt Women's Champion in WWE's developmental branch, Nxt. She is the only person to have held both championships concurrently.
The film is a co-production between WWE Studios and Film4 and will begin shooting later this month.

Deadline reports that Dwayne Johnson and The Office’s Stephen Merchant are teaming up for a new dramedy about a British wrestling dynasty. Sadly, Fighting With My Family—based on the life story of WWE star Paige—won’t put the two men on screen together, as some sort of living document of the incredible variability of the human form. Instead, Merchant will write and direct the film, while The Rock will co-star and produce.
The movie takes as its inspiration Channel Four’s The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family, a documentary that tracked the lives of Paige, her parents, and her brother, all of whom work as professional wrestlers to greater or lesser degrees of success. Florence Pugh will play Paige (whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis), while Dunkirk’s Jack Lowden will play her brother Zak, who wrestles under the name Zak Zodiac.
