Tyler Perry's Netflix Series With 57% Rt Audience Score Gets Season 2 Renewal
Image
Tyler Perry is a massive media mogul, with many movies and television shows spread across multiple streaming services. The actor, writer, director, and producer is perhaps best known for playing Madea, a tough elderly woman who has appeared in several stage plays, a dozen movies, and numerous television series. This includes Tyler Perry's House of Payne, which aired for eight seasons on TBS from 2006 to 2012. Shortly after, Perry formed a partnership to produce series for the Oprah Winfrey Network.

In recent years, however, Perry's projects have been confined to streaming, most notably Netflix. From 2020 to 2024, he wrote and directed A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman's Blues, Mea Culpa, and The Six Triple Eight – all for Netflix. Many of these movies were panned by critics, but were somewhat popular on the streaming service. In 2025, Perry has Madea's Destination Wedding and several new shows premiering. In addition, one of...

Tyler Perry’s ‘Beauty in Black’ Ending, Explained
Image
Following a mid-season hiatus in October 2024, Tyler Perry'sBeauty in Black concluded on Netflix on March 6, 2025. The juicy melodrama concerns enterprising dancer Kimmie (Taylor Palidore Williams) and the whirlwind of change she experiences after being accepted into a fancy haircare school owned by a reputable family and run by Mallory Bellaire (Crystle Stewart).

What begins as a hopeful fresh start for Kimmie turns dark and devious with kidnap, blackmail, and ultimately murder within her new community, which turns out to be just as criminal as her old one. Although the show has been ripped apart for its unsubtle stereotypes and crass misogyny, the final six episodes have enough twists and turns to sort out the confusion and give audiences clear-cut answers about the conclusion.

The story follows Kimmie (Taylor), an exotic dancer with a new lease on life, after being accepted into an exclusive hair-care...

Outlaw Posse Review
Image
Plot: 1908. Chief (Mario Van Peebles) returns from years of hiding in Mexico to claim stolen reparations gold hidden in the hills of Montana but is chased by Angel (William Mapother), whose rationale to the gold leaves a trail of dead bodies.

Review: Mario Van Peebles is in the enviable position of being a writer, director and actor who can make the kinds of movies he wants with the people he wants. He was able to gain recognition on his own merit, outside of his father’s work, as he appeared in films like Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood, Ali with Will Smith, as well as cult classics like Gunmen which co-stars Christopher Lambert. He would work with him again in Lambert’s franchise sequel, Highlander: The Final Dimension. Plus, Van Peebles would gain acclaim as a director with the films he’s pulled double duty on — such titles as New Jack City...

‘Outlaw Posse’ Review: Mario Van Peebles’ Uneven but Diverting Mix of Blaxploitation and Spaghetti Western Tropes
Image
If Sergio Leone had ever signed on to make one of those ‘70s Blaxploitation oaters that once provided steady employment for Fred Williamson, it likely would have looked and sounded much like “Outlaw Posse,” a wildly uneven but cumulatively entertaining shoot-‘em-up that finds Mario Van Peebles doing triple duty as director, screenwriter and star. Quadruple duty, actually, if you count his credit as an executive producer.

“Outlaw Posse” has nothing to do with Van Peebles’ previous entry in this genre, 1993’s wild and woolly “Posse,” which suggests the multitasking filmmaker is tipping his Stetson to the multitude of ‘60s Spaghetti Westerns that, ahem, borrowed titles and eponymous characters from better known yet totally unrelated horse operas. But, then again, maybe not. Indeed, the film will probably be enjoyed most by folks not given to undue consideration of such trifling matters as lineage, logic and arrant anachronisms.

It’s 1908, and...

Mario Van Peebles at an event for 2 Days in Paris (2007)
Interview: Mario Van Peebles on his return to the American Western genre in Outlaw Posse
Mario Van Peebles at an event for 2 Days in Paris (2007)
Mario Van Peebles made a big mark on cinema following in his father’s footsteps, Melvin Van Peebles, to be a unique, prominent voice for the African-American community in cinema. He would make many appearances as an actor, including working with fellow gunslinger Clint Eastwood on Heartbreak Ridge, as the sword-wielding Kane in Highlander: The Final Dimension, and taking on the monumental task of portraying Malcolm X in the Michael Mann film, Ali. However, in 1991, New Jack City, which co-stars Ice-t, would put Van Peebles on the map as a director, and he would parlay his run with movies like Panther and the 1993 western film, Posse, in which he also starred.

Peeble returns to the Western genre in a semi-sequel to his 1993 movie that also sports an ensemble of impressive names. Outlaw Posse has Van Peebles working both in front and behind the camera again, and would even have him...

Outlaw Posse: The West becomes one in the new trailer for the unofficial sequel to the Mario Van Peebles western
Image
Reach for the sky cause Mario Van Peebles has returned to the old West! In 1993, Mario Van Peebles dabbled in the Western genre with Posse, which he had written, directed, and starred in. Now, Peebles has gotten back into the director’s chair for a new feature he wrote called Outlaw Posse. The trailer has now been released courtesy of Quiver Distribution and features Mario Van Peebles acting alongside his son, Mandela, who also plays his son in the movie. This keeps the tradition of the Van Peebles filmmaking lineage rolling along as Mario was also heavily involved with his father, Melvin Van Peebles’ film career. Mario would even make a biopic where he portrayed his own father with the film Baadasssss!, which is a play on the title of Melvin’s famous movie Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song.

One thing this film shares with the 1993 film, Posse, is the star-studded cast,...

Mario Van Peebles' Wild Western Comedy Film 'Outlaw Posse' Trailer
Image
"Whatever you two geniuses scheming up, count me in!" Quiver Distr. has revealed an official trailer for a kooky, zany western thriller comedy titled Outlaw Posse, arriving in theaters in March. It's the latest film directed by and written by and starring actor / filmmaker Mario Van Peebles, son of the legendary Melvin Van Peebles. This kind of feels like Van Peebles trying to create a modern update on Blazing Saddles, but it doesn't have the same comedic genius as that film. In the untamed Wild West of 1908, men in power take advantage of an unfair world. Renegade cowboy Chief, eager to restore balance, assembles a daring group of outcasts and saddles up on a cross-country odyssey to reclaim stolen gold in unsettled territory. The big ensemble features William Mapother, John Carroll Lynch, D.C Young Fly, Mandela Van Peebles, Amber Reign Smith, Neal McDonough, Allen Payne, Cam Gigandet, and M. Emmet Walsh,...

Trailer for Musical Comedy 'Open' feat. 80's New Wave Hallucinations
Image
"I never start seeing anybody without stalking them first." Well, okay. Virgil Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie musical comedy called Open. A woman in a troubled marriage falls for her former teen heartthrob, who's fallen from industry favor, while having nagging (and empowering) hallucinations about fronting an 80's New Wave Band. Turns out this isn't really about wanting to be in a band, it's a weird story about open relationships and trouble romance. Starring Lindsay Anne Williams as Kristina, Jeremy London, William Forsythe, Amber Reign Smith, Elena Sanchez, and Miles Doleac. For the film's 10 original songs, writers Doleac & Williams partnered with their collaborator and composer, Clifton Hyde, and Oliver Hofer, to create a musical landscape "that's sure to delight fans of synth-driven 80’s post-punk." Or not. Because this looks really bad - the trailer is incoherent, and I don't expect the film to be any better.

‘The Other Black Girl’ Exposes the Horror of Being a Black Woman in Corporate America
Image
Zakiya Dalila Harris rarely saw another natural-haired Black woman in the office. But one time it did. She was an assistant editor at Knopf Doubleday, a publishing group within Penguin Random House, and a woman stepped into the bathroom. Instead of a serendipitous smile, though, Harris received the cold shoulder from her colleague.

“I definitely thought we’d have some kind of, ‘Hey,’ the nod, and that didn’t happen,” Harris recalls. “I ended up going back to my desk and started writing this book.”

Since publishing The Other Black Girl...

Outlaw Posse: Mario Van Peebles returns to the western world in a first look at his new film
Image
In 1993, Mario Van Peebles dabbled in the Western genre with Posse. Peebles took after his father, Melvin Van Peebles, who was a notable filmmaker in the blaxploitation genre in the 1970s. Mario appeared as an actor in films like Rappin’, Heartbreak Ridge starring Clint Eastwood, and the infamous Jaws: The Revenge, which featured an apathetic Michael Caine. He would also head up his own projects as a writer and director, much like his father. One of the more popular films Peebles would be known for is the 90s street crime classic, New Jack City.

Peebles is returning to the director’s chair for a new feature he wrote called Outlaw Posse. The film is a Western that bears no connection to the similarly titled Posse. Highland Film Group has picked up the distribution and has shared a first look at the film with a new picture exclusively shared by Variety.
