Aaron Pierre Reveals the DC Series That Introduced Him to Green Lantern
Image
Having already commanded the screen in this year’s hit Netflix movie Rebel Ridge, Aaron Pierre will look to do the same as John Stewart in Lanterns, the new Dcu series that James Gunn says is slated to release at some point in 2026. Before we get there, though, Pierre recently shared how he was introduced to Stewart in the first place, and it’s all thanks to a beloved animated series that’s still held up as the gold standard of superhero shows.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming role in Lanterns, of which he said he "can't wait to get to work" on, the 30-year-old English actor revealed that he was just a kid when he first met Green Lantern, thanks to a short-lived Cartoon Network series that only lasted 39 episodes. Perhaps it’s one you’ve heard of?

I think Justice League Unlimited might have been one...

Rebel Ridge's Secret CGI Explained by VFX Artist
Image
While you might not think it, given the movie's slow-burning plot, and hand-to-hand fight scenes, Rebel Ridge features well over 500 VFX shots which were hidden in plain sight. The new movie, directed and written by Jeremy Saulnier and starring Aaron Pierre, has been a smash hit for Netflix, boasting a strong 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and rushing to the top of the streamer's Top 10 chart. As the tension draws to a head, Terry Richmond (Pierre) unleashes brutal vengeance on the corrupt police officers who inadvertently caused his brother's death. The scene is filled with brutal fight choreography and, far more surprisingly, a lot of visual effects.

Speaking to Art of VFX, Rebel Ridge's VFX artist, Chris Connolly, discussed the process of implementing the movie's secret VFX. Of course, no sharknadoes or Scorpion Kings appear in the finale, but CGI was used to enhance the on-screen violence. The smoke grenades Terry launches at the police,...

Rebel Ridge Director Talks About His Next Film
Image
Jeremy Saulnier, the director responsible for Netflix's hit action thriller Rebel Ridge, has said that he's already working on his next film. Unfortunately, for those digging his latest feature, he isn't working on a sequel to Rebel Ridge, or something remotely touching on the same genre. Apparently, he has decided to go back to his less "sober" roots.

The director appeared on The Playlist podcast, where he expanded on the screenplay he's currently writing. Saulnier has decided to return to the tone of previous projects like Green Room and his first feature, Murder Party, and take a more fun approach to his unique storytelling style. Per Saulnier's statement:

"Im currently writing something thats a little more in the Green Room universe. Because with Rebel Ridge, I was exploring a new side. I was just tired of everything I do being oppressive. But Ive kinda gone back. It has to...

"A Thinking Man's Rambo": Stephen King Gives New Netflix Movie A Glowing Review
Image
Stephen King officially approves of Netflix's Rebel Ridge. The movie tells the story of a Marine who is forced to stand against the police after his cousin's bail money is stolen by the officers. Aaron Pierre's Terry Richmond is left to wage a bloody war against the corrupt police department and against the very concept of civil asset forfeiture. Rebel Ridge is inspired by true events, though it takes extreme liberty with its storytelling.

In a post on King's personal Twitter account, the author compared the movie favorably with Rambo. He still has respect for the Rambo author, David Morrell, but he believes that the Netflix movie is deeper and far more thoughtful. Check out his full quote below:

Rebel Ridge: If this is a Netflix original, it's one of the best. A thinking man's Rambo. No diss to David Morrell.

Rebel Ridge Director Addresses Whether Civil Asset Forfeiture Is Real
Image
Rebel Ridge is all about civil asset forfeiture, and the director has a lot to say about the controversial policy. Led by Aaron Pierre (Old), the movie follows a Marine who has his cousin's bail money stolen by police officers under the guise of civil asset forfeiture. Rebel Ridge has earned incredible reviews, which praise its relatable premise and its skilled performances. It was released on Netflix, where it remains available for streaming.

While speaking to Netflix, writer and director Jeremy Saulnier spoke out about the injustice of civil asset forfeiture. He confirmed that the policy is a real-world regulation that has caused extreme injustice to actual people. He recognized that the policy could unify all viewers against it, and that is exactly why he decided to develop this movie. Check out his full response below:

Quick Links Seizing Money From a Former Marine in Rebel Ridge Is Terry Richmond Based on a Real Person? Civil Asset Forfeiture Goes Back to the 1600s

With just four previous films under his belt, director Jeremy Saulnier has only strengthened his feature film lineup with 2024s Rebel Ridge. Some are calling the Netflix exclusive movie a more slow-burning and calculative take on Prime Videos widely popular Reacher series. Others applaud actor Aaron Pierres take on the main character of Terry Richmond, a man who takes action against the corrupt local police but without using lethal force. Saulniers latest may be defined as an action thriller, and rightly so, but visually and thematically speaking, it is much more than that. Not only does the cinematography at certain points elevate Rebel Ridge out of the oversaturated genre (with numerous slow-tracking camera sequences and one-shot takes), but the introductory and shocking premise...

Rebel Ridge Fans Should Check Out Al Pacino's Beloved Film, Serpico
Image
Quick Links Is Rebel Ridge the Best Cop Thriller of 2024? Serpico: The True Story of a Whistleblower Al Pacino Is at His Best in Serpico

The action thriller genre has excited audiences for many decades. Although it is a genre that encompasses many movies and is sometimes coupled with other genres, some stylistic choices and themes are at the core of it. Whether it be about police officers on the hunt for a dangerous criminal, organized killers, or men rejected by society, they happen to often feature lonesome or rogue male characters.

Several of them also deal with corruption in the police force, like Rebel Ridge. For a long time, the police were often portrayed as the good guys and the heroes of the story. However, after much work by producer Dino De Laurentiis in 1972, he got the green light from Paramount Pictures to make a film about corruption in the NYPD.

Rebel Ridge Ending Explained By Director
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Rebel Ridge.

Rebel Ridge director Jeremy Saulnier breaks down the film's ending action sequence. Saulnier's latest film after the likes of Green Room (2015) and Hold the Dark (2018) stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, an ex-Marine who finds himself facing off against a crew of corrupt, small-town cops while trying to post bail for his cousin. The Rebel Ridge ending sees Terry's confrontation come to a head in a chaotic shootout, with Pierre's character ultimately saving the life of David Denman's honest Officer Evan Marston while taking down his corrupt colleagues.

In a recent interview with Netflix, Saulnier explains how that ending sequence in Rebel Ridge was pulled off. The director stresses that he wanted all the action to feel "grounded" and real, and Pierre himself played a large role in this. According to Saulnier, the scene in which Pierre quickly drags Denman to...

Fun S**t: Rebel Ridge Director Teases Next Movie, Compares It To Patrick Stewart Horror Movie With 90% Rt Score
Image
Rebel Ridge director Jeremy Saulnier teases his next movie, comparing it to his violent 2015 horror movie starring Patrick Stewart. Hitting Netflix this past weekend, Rebel Ridge stars Aaron Pierre as an ex-Marine who faces off against a small town police department while attempting to post bail for his cousin. Reviews for the action thriller have been glowing from critics, leading to questions regarding what Saulnier, who is also well known for movies like Green Room (2015) and Blue Ruin (2013) will do next.

In a recent interview with The Playlist, Saulnier is asked what he'll be tackling after Rebel Ridge, revealing that his next movie will be more in line with Green Room. The filmmaker says the project "is in the Green Room universe," though it's unclear if he means a literal extension of that film's story or more of a spiritual and tonal successor that adopts that film's darker tone and brutal violence.

Rebel Ridge Director on John Boyega's Exit & Delayed Production Challenges

Rebel Ridge has become one of the biggest movies on Netflix overnight through nothing more than strong word-of-mouth. That is not bad for a movie that ran the risk of not being made when it lost its lead star, John Boyega , shortly after production began. Rebel Ridge is Now Streaming & Debuts Top of Nexflix Global Chart
Image
Rebel Ridge has claimed the top spot on Netflixs global movie chart after dominating headlines as the greatest action movie of the year. While little was heard about the movie after its production troubles in 2021, the film has become a word-of-mouth success on Netflix with a huge debut that many big cinematic blockbusters have failed to achieve.

Rebel Ridge features a strong cast led by Aaron Pierre, AnnaSophia Robb and Don Johnson, and has been masterminded by Jeremy Saulnier, who acts as writer, director, producer and editor on the film. Delivering such a singular vision has clearly paid off, and Rebel Ridge has very quickly gone from being just another Netflix movie to the must-see action thriller of 2024.

Rebel Ridge Review | Netflix's Best Movie in Years Is Action Brilliance
Image
Excuse the profanity in the title, but if you don't find yourself shouting or thinking passionately some kind of profane platitude (i.e. "f*ck yeah" or "holy sh*t") while watching Rebel Ridge, then you have ice running through your veins. The new Netflix film by one of America's best young directors, Jeremy Saulnier, is an instant classic. It's an action masterpiece, but not in the purely technical and aesthetic way of a John Woo or Johnnie To film. Sure, Rebel Ridge has some exquisite action set pieces, but it's also a brilliant sociopolitical commentary, a kind of cinematic 'State of the Nation,' and also a soulful character study of an abandoned veteran.

Despite the obvious excitement, when people saw the trailer for Rebel Ridge, they immediately compared it to First Blood a veteran is hounded by local police, who abuse him enough that he lashes back with violence,...

Netflix's New Action Thriller Movie Gets Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Rebel Ridge has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect score. Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, who is best known for films like Blue Ruin (2013) and Green Room (2015), Rebel Ridge stars Aaron Pierre as an ex-marine who finds himself facing off against a team of small-town cops while attempting to post bail for his cousin. Rebel Ridge Review: Jeremy Saulniers Long-Awaited Action Movie Is A Nuanced Political Thriller
Image
Netflix's latest action thriller, Rebel Ridge, updates the genre with skill and attention while harkening back to the classic movies that inspired it. It stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, a one-man army on par with the likes of classic 1980s action stars. However, Terry has a much more compelling moral code he's following, and the corruption he faces reflects the current cultural climate. Jeremy Saulnier serves as the writer, director, producer, and editor, making it a labor of love for the filmmaker. Rebel Ridge is consistently precise in tone, theme, and pacing throughout.

Title: The Do-Deca-Pentathlon Directors: Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass Starring: Mark Kelly, Steve Zissis, Jennifer Lafleur, Reid Williams, Julie Vorus Testosteronized rivalry has informed the cinematic canon of the Duplass brothers, Jay and Mark, in films like “Cyrus” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home,” but that area of inquiry actually has its roots in “The Do-Deca-Pentathlon,” a fun little bauble they shot in 2008 as their third feature film, after “The Puffy Chair” and “Baghead” and before those two aforementioned movies.
