Simu Lius Jacked Selfie Fuels Shang-Chi 2 Speculation
Image
News about Shang-Chi 2 could be on the way. At least, that's what Marvel Cinematic Universe fans think following a cryptic social media post by franchise star Simu Liu.

The actor, who stars in the MCU as Xu Shang-Chi, recently shared a jacked, shirtless selfie on the social media platform X with the caption, "prepping," along with the "eyes emoji." While Liu may be getting in shape for a non-Marvel role, such as his upcoming untitled espionage series on Peacock, fans of the superhero franchise believe that the actor is teasing that some good news regarding the status of Shang-Chi 2 is around the corner. A sequel to the Phase 4 movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was announced in December 2021, with Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed to be returning as writer/director on the project.

Simu Liu Gives Honest Shang-Chi Review on Anniversary of MCU Movie's Debut
Image
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has turned three years old. To mark the anniversary, actor Simu Liu offered his honest thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released on Sept. 3, 2021, as the 25th film in the MCU. The film was a major success for Marvel Studios, grossing over $430 million at the worldwide box office and being met with an overwhelmingly positive reception by critics and audiences. To celebrate the anniversary of Shang-Chi's debut, Liu shared his honest and humorous review of the movie on X. Responding to a post from a Marvel fan account that asked, "How much would you rate [Shang-Chi] out of 10?," Liu wrote, "8.5/10. Decent movie but lead actor is a little too full of himself."

Simu Liu Describes Feeling Inadequate Filming Shang-Chi Fight Scene With Michelle Yeoh
Image
Most fans consider Simu Liu's bus fight as the standout action sequence in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The actor revealed how his training scene with Michelle Yeoh became a personal favorite.

Simu Liu had nothing but praise for Michelle Yeoh's grace and physicality in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Aware of Yeoh's impressive performances in martial arts films like Supercop, The Touch, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Liu recalled their fight scene in Shang-Chi bordered on the surreal. Shang-Chi knew how to fight but still had a lot to learn early in the film (as demonstrated by his awkward yet effective moves during the bus fight sequence); Liu told Collider he didn't need to try hard to sell his clumsy stunts in the film. This was highlighted in Shang-Chi's training scene with Yeoh's character Ying Nan, whose fighting style uses Tai chi techniques.

10 Oscar Winners You Didn't Realize Played Marvel Movie Side Characters

Oscar winners in the MCU often take on brief, hidden roles that showcase their talents in unexpected ways. From Michelle Yeoh to Matt Damon, these actors bring prestige to the MCU through subtle cameos and voice roles. Taika Waititi's humor, Kenneth Branagh's voice, and F. Murray Abraham's presence add depth to the world of the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been host to no shortage of Oscar-winning actors, including even some of the series' most obscure side-characters. It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe survives and thrives off the strength of its actors, as proven by the recent announcement of Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. The franchise has slowly collected Oscar-winners like Infinity Stones over the years, with even the most unrecognizable of roles often going to distinguished performers.

It's easy to see how many of these brief roles...

10 Fights That Permanently Changed MCU Characters
Image
Epic battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently change characters, elevating the scene to greatness. The McU's strength lies in the payoff of long-set moral quandaries, personal growth, and character development. Marvel movies craft visually stunning and emotionally thought-provoking fight sequences that satisfy within the narrative.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of excellent fight scenes, but the best ones permanently change the participating characters. Crafting exciting action sequences that revel in the jaw-dropping spectacle of Marvel Studios' excellent SFX department while showing off some of the best fight choreography and stunt work Hollywood has to offer is second nature to the storied franchise. But when a battle has enough emotional significance to fundamentally change one of its fighters, the scene is elevated to a new level of greatness.

Much of the time, such change is the culmination of multiple movies' worth of character development, with final battles that...

Darkest Villain Acts in the MCU
Image
Just like it has incredible heroes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe also features terrifying villains. All fans remember how Hela obliterated Odin's army and pushed Thor into allowing Surtur to destroying Asgard or how Thanos erased half of the universe's population in a snap without a care. But MCU villains have also done some truly dark things that may have flown under the radar compared to these high-stakes acts.

From Xu Wenwu forcing Shang-Chi to become his personal hitman when he was a kid to John Walker beheading a criminal in the middle of the street using Captain America's shield, these MCU villains took things very far. It's impossible to remember their crimes without shuddering a little.

The McU's Ten Rings Come From Kang - Shang-Chi Theory Explained
Image
The origin of the legendary Ten Rings in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are shrouded in mystery, but one theory suggests they could come from Kang the Conqueror. With Thanos dead and the Infinity Stones gone in the main MCU timeline, Phase 4 introduced new threats on a larger scale than the Infinity Saga. This includes He Who Remains in Loki season 1, and Xu Wenwu, the true leader of The Ten Rings crime organization. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' eponymous weapons could be tied to the greater MCU narrative through a powerful being like Kang the Conqueror.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, the son of the leader of the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi grew up watching his father wield the mysterious Ten Rings, but they are eventually passed to the McU's newest mystical hero. However, the Ten Rings baffle Shang-Chi's newfound allies,...

How Ying Li Dies In Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings
Image
The untimely death of Shang-Chi’s mom, Ying Li, is an integral plot point in the McU's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the way she dies is one of the most shocking moments in the movie. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings revolves around the eponymous superpowered martial artist returning to the home he fled and reconnecting with the family he left behind as malevolent forces conspire against them. What ties Shang-Chi to his father Wenwu and his sister Xialing is their mutual love of Li.

Released in 2021 just as movie theaters were reopening in a post-pandemic world, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings managed to gross $432 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), launching Simu Liu and Awkwafina to new levels of stardom. The success of Shang-Chi, both critically and commercially, gave Marvel enough faith in director Destin Daniel Cretton to hire...

Breaking Down Phase 4's Real Meanings (& How It United The McU's Heroes)
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 4 may not be the most celebrated installment of the hit superhero franchise, but its deeper meanings and character explorations are far beyond anything the series has done before. In the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has hit a franchise reset, replacing the Infinity Saga with what has now been dubbed the Multiverse Saga, which will culminate in the two-part finale event, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. With the first phase of the Multiverse Saga now officially over, audiences can look back on the last two years to see the deeper themes that have run through the McU's Phase 4.

There have been many who claimed that there was something wrong with Phase 4 of the MCU, especially in comparison to the first three phrases of the franchise. Reaction to the onslaught of films and series that comprise Phase 4 has been decidedly mixed, with certain titles,...

MCU: 10 Best Hand-To-Hand Fighters
Image
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally introduced one of Marvel’s oldest and strongest characters, Namor the Sub-Mariner, played by Tenoch Huerta. He is one of the most formidable enemies the MCU has incorporated, rivaling Thor and Hulk in strength and enhanced with vibranium weapons and winged ankle that allow him to fly. The film followed the classic MCU formula with a climactic fight between him and Shuri, the new Black Panther. While they both walked away from it alive, it was still one of the MCU’s most brutal fight as he stabbed her through the gut with a spear, and she dug her claws into him and burned his back.

Namor might outpace them on strength and agility, but there are other characters in the MCU who are truly better fighters than him. On the basis of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, it’s characters from films like Shang-Chi...

Ms. Marvel Just Gave Us One Of The Best Romances Of The MCU
Tony Leung Chiu-wai at an event for Lust, Caution (2007)
You know the MCU has a romance problem when one of its most endearing relationships since it began over a decade ago is between a hot-headed witch and ... an android. The Disney+ MCU series focused on Pakistani-American teenager/part-time superhero Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) already has some special relationships forming — Kamala's parents are...
