ABC has released the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s new nautical medical drama “Doctor Odyssey” — starring Joshua Jackson — which premieres Sept. 26 and will be available on Hulu the following day.

According to the official logline, “Doctor Odyssey” Jackson plays Max, the “new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as Max and his small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore.”

Other cast members include Sean Teale, Don Johnson and Phillipa Soo.

Murphy serves as writer and executive producer with director Paris Barclay, Jackson, Johnson, Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich. “Doctor Odyssey” is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.

It would seem that the trend for producing horror movies that harken back to the 80s and the golden age of the slasher, has officially become the “norm” for modern examples of the genre. Every month there seems to be another slasher movie that hits DVD and/or VOD which looks and feels like the self-referential post-Scream years never happened. But I’m not complaining, oh no! As a Huge fan of slasher movies (even the likes of Iced and Terror at Tenkiller) I relish the opportunity to watch each and every new entry into the much-maligned genre.

Synopsis

This football season, Hogeye High’s Warriors and cheerleaders are out for blood. Unfortunately, someone is out for theirs, and they’ll be forced to take one for the team. After the big Halloween football match, the students are joined by an uninvited guest dressed as their high school mascot armed with a bow and arrow, a battle-axe, and an insatiable appetite for butchery. Soon, they find themselves fighting for more than the winning score as terror becomes the name of the game. Featuring “enough inventive kills to keep even the most rabid gorehound happy,” Varsity Blood is “a supremely entertaining slasher rollercoaster” (Hysteria Lives!).

Rlj Image Entertainment will be releasing Varsity Blood on DVD on August 19 2014. In anticipation for the release they have provided us with a fun trailer made with finger puppets. A post-game party gets crashed by a crazed killer in Varsity Blood, due out later this month from Rlj/Image Entertainment, and we have an exclusive clip of a potential victim being stalked by the slasher in the shadows.

Jake Helgren's first feature as director is the indie title Varsity Blood. The film is a slasher feature, which focuses on a group of friends and an isolated farmhouse. Helgren's feature will release through Rlj Entertainment, this summer (August 19th, 2014) and a trailer for the film is available here. The story is fairly straightforward. Several friends begin to party on the outskirts of town. The local mascot shows up, axe in hand and this group of friends is now on the chopping block. The trailer for Varsity Blood shows the homicidal mascot. Dressed in full regalia, the Native American mascot lays waste to several high-schoolers.
