A man’s inability to tell dreams from reality makes for a smart premise but alarms sound when the plot begins to unravel
At one point in this British drama, Theo (Cristian Solimeno), the sharp-tongued bullying employer of protagonist Zel (Laurie Calvert), describes the latter as having all the charm of a “pubic hair in a cheese sandwich”. That’s maybe a bit harsh, but not entirely wrong. Introverted, shuffling young twentysomething Zel is far less engaging than practically every other character in the film, from his nagging mum (Sadie Frost) who swings by briefly to complain about his flat’s hygiene and is barely seen again, to the more compelling figure of Elliot (Billy Zane), Zel’s enigmatic, only-a-bit-creepy neighbour who gets him into lucid dreaming as way to deal with his social anxiety.

Zel (Laurie Calvert) is sleepwalking through life, part-funded by parental handouts and interrupted only occasionally by other people. He has a crush on a neighbour (Felicity Gilbert) and is in conflict with his boss at work, situations that he lacks the confidence or constitution to resolve. When another neighbour, Elliot (Billy Zane), suggests that he use lucid dreaming to rehearse different problem solving scenarios in his sleep, Zel starts to draw strength from his successes in the subconscious. However, when these increasingly vivid extrapolations become indistinguishable from real-life decisions he starts to lose his grip on reality.

A week before the world premiere of his debut feature film, “Lucid,” at the Edinburgh Intl. Film Festival, young British filmmaker Adam Morse has revealed in public for the first time that he is registered as a blind person. Even one of the film’s lead actors, Billy Zane, didn’t know until the shoot was underway, and one of the film’s principal investors only found out after its initial test screening in Hollywood.
The film, which is nominated for Edinburgh’s prestigious Michael Powell Award in the Best of British category, follows a lonely young introvert, played by Laurie Calvert, who has a crush on a dancer, but can’t pluck up the courage to talk to her. His eccentric neighbor, played by Zane, offers to help him by using an experimental form of therapy called lucid dreaming. This helps the boy to be more daring, but the...

A decade after he suddenly lost his sight, Adam Morse has made Lucid, a feature film starring Billy Zane and Sadie Frost. He tells of his hard path to success
Adam Morse had always dreamed of becoming a film-maker and nothing – not even the sudden loss of his sight – was going to stop him. Now, almost a decade after he was registered blind, his first feature film, with a cast headed by Hollywood actor Billy Zane, is to receive its world premiere at the Edinburgh international film festival.
Lucid explores dreams and reality and reflects Morse’s view that “nothing can stop us from making dreams come true”. Observers say the fact that the 28-year-old has written and directed a film with only peripheral vision – let alone with high-profile actors such as Zane, Sadie Frost and Laurie Calvert in it – is extraordinary.

Attack Of The Lederhosen Zombies. Do I have your attention? Of course I do! Lederhosen zombies! Yes, from the Alps of Tyrol, Austria comes a horror comedy that dashes Out Cold snowboarding humor into a Romero zombie stew. Humor meets ski-village infestation, and gore meets a white, snowy backdrop in need of some red coloring. Does sophomore filmmaker Dominik Hartl create a legendary zombie epic in the process? Not quite, but that doesn’t mean ski-bums and Z-nation worshipers alike won’t have a wintry hellscape worth a few chuckles and winces. Go ahead and punch your lift ticket – the ride’s a bumpy one, but still worth the price of admission.
It all starts with a hopeful vacation destination, an investor and a glowing green serum that – when blown through fans – produces perfect man-made snow. Assumed owner Franz (Karl Fischer) is trying to unload his Alps resort, but ends...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Level 33 Entertainment. Director: Dominik Hartl. Writers: Armin Prediger and Dominik Hartl. Cast: Laurie Calvert, Gabriela Marcinková and Oscar Dyekjær Giese. Few horror films emerge from the cold climes of Austria. There has been Dead in 3 Days (2006), but there has never been a zombie film, until now! In Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies, Domink Hartl has looked to films from the past, including Dead Alive (1992) and Shaun of the Dead (2004), to create a comedic outing. Attack of the Lederhosen, which could have been easily named Snowboarders vs. Zombies, pits several sports enthusiasts against a growing zombie horde. The blood and comedy skits fly about. Some of the material sticks, while a bit more misses its mark. The film, at seventy-two minutes, was originally set to be a student film, but it has been extended here. The film comes across as slightly long,...

Tagline: "It's all downhill from here." Level 33 Entertainment is set to release the Austrian shot Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies. The film involves a strange scientific experiment and the epidemic of zombies, that are launched shortly thereafter. The film is a horror comedy, starring: Laurie Calvert, Gabriela Marcinkova and Margarete Tiesel. To release in mid-January, a preview of the film's theatrical and Video-on-demand trailer is available here. A few early reviews have praised the film. The Hollywood News has noticed the strangeness of the film: "kitschy, wacky and gory, Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies is a fun-filled, blood-soaked ski lift ride crammed full of zombies." What could be better than seeing snowboarders battle zombies? Flickering Myth, in their review, looked at the film's comedic elements: "Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies is a considerable slice of genre-based silliness that’s highly likely to excite any seasoned fan of cinema’s most consistent flesh-eaters.

.The Quiet Ones,. bearing the mark of Hammer Films, is a scary flick that features the age-old debate between science and the supernatural. Jared Harris stars as Professor Coupland, a professor who thinks he can exorcise demons using science. His subject for his experiment is Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke), a possessed young girl with deep, dark secrets. Capturing the entire experiment is Brian McNeil played by Sam Claflin (.The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).
Is .The Quiet Ones. worth your time and money? Check out my review.
Official Synopsis:
From the producer who brought you The Woman In Black and Let Me In comes the unnerving tale of The Quiet Ones. Tucked away in an estate outside of London, Professor Coupland along with a team of university students conduct an "experiment" on Jane Harper, a young girl who harbors unspeakable secrets. What dark forces they uncover are more terrifying than any of them expected.

I enjoyed meeting the three stars from the upcoming film .The Quiet Ones. namely Sam Claflin (.The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.), Olivia Cooke (.Bates Motel.), and Jared Harris (.Sherlock Holmes: The Game of Shadows,. .Pompeii,. .Lincoln.).
The film, bearing the mark of Hammer Films, talks about extracting demonic energy or negative energy according to Professor Joseph Coupland (Harris) and he wants to do exactly just that to Jane Harper (Cooke) who has been talking about a supernatural entity named Evey. Coupland hires videographer, Brian McNeil (Claflin) to document the experiment.
I sat down with the cast to talk about their interest in making the movie, working on the set, and the age-old argument between science and the supernatural.
