Lord Miller, the production company led by Academy Award winners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is producing a film based on “The Six: The Extraordinary Story of the Grit and Daring of America’s First Women Astronauts” for Universal Pictures.

A synopsis of “The Six” explains that journalist Loren Grush’s bestseller “tells the thrilling, heroic and unexpectedly funny story of the six women who defied the odds, the naysayers and gravity itself to become America’s first female astronauts, culminating in Sally Ride’s historic Shuttle journey into space.” Rachel Lee Goldenberg is set to direct the film and will adapt the story with Bill Parker (“Unpregnant”).

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller took to social media Wednesday to celebrate the feat.

“Holy Moly. Thank you all you glorious generous fans of movies/books/near light speed space travel/the Sun for pushing the trailer for ‘Project Hail Mary’ past 400 million views – the most in one week for a film that’s not a sequel or a remake… ever,” Miller and Lord wrote in a joint statement on their personal X and Instagram accounts.

“Can’t wait to thank some of you in person at San Diego Comic-Con in Hall H with our pals Ryan [Gosling], Andy [Weir] and Drew [Goddard],” they added, shouting out the film’s star and co-writers.

Amazon MGM has released the first trailer for Project Hail Mary.

The sci-fi comedy stars Ryan Gosling, who plays a middle school science teacher, Ryland Grace (Gosling), who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He must figure out how to complete his interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone, until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his own species from the same fate.

The Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed space adventure is based on the Andy Weir bestseller of the same name.

Amazon MGM showed footage from the film at their CinemaCon presentation in April. Gosling was present and called the film an “insanely ambitious story, massive in scope.” It was so big, “we tried to put it on a TV once, it wouldn’t fit,” he said.

The announcement was made by Laika’s president of live-action film and series Matt Levin. “We’re so excited to partner with Brian and the entire team at Lord Miller on this special film,” he said in a Tuesday statement. “Brian has such a singular voice and ‘Crumble’ perfectly embodies the bold, emotional and inventive storytelling that we champion at Laika. Universal has moved “Strays” from June 9 to August 18, placing the R-rated talking-animal comedy in the same general release slot where the likes of “Good Boys” and “We’re The Millers” found fortune and glory in years prior. Universal Pictures is giving director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear a theatrical release tomorrow, February 24th (you can read some early reactions Here), and some movie-goers are already hoping for a follow-up that would be called Cocaine Shark. It remains to be seen is there’s going to be a sequel at all, let alone one that would go aquatic, but during a conversation with Variety screenwriter Jimmy Warden (who happens to be married to genre icon Samara Weaving) confirmed that he has ideas for multiple sequels.

Cocaine Bear is roaring for the Super Bowl, with a new NFL stats-themed poster released during the game.

The movie is inspired by true events from the 1980s when a drug run gone bad led to a bear ingesting large amounts of cocaine. Cocaine Bear imagines the experiences of that bear and how the local community — from petty criminals to forest rangers — handled a coked-out American black bear.

Hollywood's latest CGI movie comes with an X-rated plot about an abandoned pup looking to get back at his crappy owner, and the best part is that it features a voice cast made up of some of our favorite stars.

"Strays," billed by Universal Pictures as a "hilarious, R-rated, live-action comedy," revolves around Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell), a "naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier" who longs to reunite with his lowlife owner, Doug (Will Forte), even after being abandoned on the mean city streets. According to Kentucky for Kentucky, ex-narcotics cop turned drug smuggler Andrew Thornton II’s parachute didn’t open and he plunged to his death. Andrew was wearing a bulletproof vest and had cocaine in a duffel bag when he was discovered dead in someone’s yard in Knoxville. A short while later, a black bear was also discovered dead as the result of eating an incredibly large amount of Thornton’s cocaine.

Inspired by bizarre real events from 1985, director Elizabeth Banks’ film focuses on a bear that ingests a monumental amount of cocaine following a drug runner’s plane crash, leading an array of authorities, criminals, teens and tourists to make their way to a forest in Georgia, where the fired-up animal is out for blood. The film, hitting theaters Feb. 24, 2023, features an ensemble cast that includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Alden Ehrenreich, Margo Martindale and the late Ray Liotta in one of his final performances.

Isla Fisher (Wolf Like Me) has signed on to star alongside Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Will Forte and Randall Park in Universal’s animated comedy Strays, Deadline can confirm.

The film from Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar director Josh Greenbaum combines CGI and live-action elements to follow an abandoned dog (Ferrell) who teams up with other strays, including one portrayed by Foxx, to get revenge on his former owner (Forte). Details with regard to the character Fisher is playing have not been disclosed.

American Vandal‘s Dan Perrault penned the script. Greenbaum is producing alongside Picturestart’s Erik Feig, Louis Leterrier, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Lord Miller President of Film, Aditya Sood, with Jessica Switch and Lord Miller’s Nikki Baida exec producing, and Picturestart’s Julia Hammer serving as co-producer. SVP of Production Development Jeyun Munford and Director of Development Tony Ducret are overseeing the project for the studio.

Lucy Kitada has joined Lord Miller, the production company of Oscar winners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, as EVP Film. In this new role, she will find, develop and produce film projects, reporting to President of Film Aditya Sood.

Lord Miller also announced today that it has extended the contracts of VP Film Rebecca Karch Tomlinson and VP Film NikkI Baida, promoting Justin Lee to Creative Executive. San Diego Comic-Con 2021, the second Comic-Con@Home edition of the beloved pop culture event, kicks off its three-day run Friday.
