Sci-Fi Film ‘UFO Sweden’ Lures Buyers at Cannes Film Market (Exclusive)

REinvent International Sales has closed major territory sales on “UFO Sweden,” a science fiction movie adventure from Crazy Pictures, a Swedish film collective whose past credits includes the 2018 hit movie “The Unthinkable.”

Described as a mix between “X-Files” and “Stranger Things,” “UFO Sweden” is set in a small town and follows a teenage rebel placed in foster care, who suspects that her father is not dead, but has been kidnapped by UFOs. With the help from a UFO association, she is determined to find out the truth. REinvent International Sales has sold “UFO Sweden” to Germany (Telepool), Spain (A Contracorriente Films) and Hungary (Vertigo). Other deals are in discussions.

Crazy Pictures got the idea for the film after learning about UFO-Sweden, which investigates mysterious phenomena and manages the world’s largest UFO archive, Archives for the Unexplained in Norrköping, Sweden.

REinvent Scores Deals on ‘Leave,’ ‘Comedy Queen’ (Exclusive)

REinvent Intl. Sales has scored sales across its slate, including Alex Herron’s horror film “Leave” and Sanna Lenken’s “Comedy Queen.”

“Comedy Queen,” which world-premiered at Berlin and won the Crystal Bear in the Generation section, has sold to Benelux (In the Air), France (Les Films Du Preau), Spain (Yoda Films), Poland (Vivarto), Hungary (Ads Service), Lithuania (Scanorama) and the former Yugoslavia (Fivia).

“Comedy Queen” follows Sasha, a 13-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian. She lives with her father, who can’t get over the death of her mother. She secretly writes a list of everything she has to do to survive, including shaving her hair, stop reading books, saying no to the world’s cutest puppy and become a comedy queen.

Lenken previously won the Berlinale Generation best film prize for her debut feature, “My Skinny Sister.”

REinvent launches genre label Chills with four features

New feature from ‘The Tunnel’ director Pål Øie amont titles picked up as new label launches.

Copenhagen-based REinvent Studios has launched new division REinvent Chills, which will handle production and international sales on genre features.

The new unit will focus on horror, thriller and subgenres such as psychological thriller and mystery horror.

The label launches with four pick-ups including Alex Herron’s Leave, Pål Øie’s Spirit Of Fear, Peter Ahlén’s Watching and Henrik M. Dahlsbakken’s Possession. All four films will be distributed by Sf Studios in the Nordics.

‘A Week Away’ Trio Launches Monarch Media, With Tommy Wirkola-Directed ‘Deathrow-mance’ Among First Projects

Exclusive: The trio of investor-philanthropist Vicky L. Patel, producer Steve Barnett and singer-actor-writer Alan Powell have teamed to launch Monarch Media, a new film and TV production company. The plan is to develop and produce 2-3 feature films a year in all genres and budget levels, as well as make a push into developing TV series and live event/theatrical properties.

Among the first projects in the Monarch pipeline is Deathrow-mance, a film written by Nick Ball and John Niven and based on an original concept from Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Benedicte Westbye. Monarch optioned the script via its film fund and is now packaging the project, which will be directed by Wirkola.

Deathrow-mance centers on a British media executive who hastily marries an American death row inmate as a loophole to avoid being deported and losing a huge buyout of her company. After new evidence...
