An out-of-nowhere global hit that makes the Energizer Bunny look lazy, S. S. Rajamouli’s 2022 film is a whirling dervish of a movie powered by music, mythology, and wall to wall special effects. N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan play two enemies who become fast friends in their search for a kidnapped child. Highlighted by one of the most joyous dance scenes since Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor, Rrr was the most expensive Indian film to that date—the movie paid off in a treasure trove of awards and accolades.

Drake Energetically Runs Through Hit Songs at Pre-Super Bowl Concert as Cher, Serena Williams Cheer Him On
Image
Drake ran through his hits like the Energizer Bunny at a pre-Super Bowl concert where attendees included Cher and Serena Williams.

The rap star said he was using the early morning Saturday show — he went on around 1 a.m. Mst — as practice for his upcoming tour. He also told the feverish fans at the luxury private jet complex Scottsdale Hangar One that he was supposed to perform a couple songs but he felt like he wanted to do more.

“I have one question for you, and I need you to answer me honestly. Tonight, they asked me to come up here and they asked me to do three songs, 20 minutes,” Drake said. “I can either do my 20 minutes or we could just run through all the old shit. It’s up to you.”

Serena Williams

The crowd cheered on, and the artist with the record for most Billboard Hot 100 hits performed anthems like “Jimmy Cooks,...

Tales From The Box Office: How Avatar Became The Biggest Movie Of All Time (Twice)
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

There are lots and lots of movies that have made lots and lots of money over the years of cinema's history. Heck, as of writing this (December 2022), there are 51 different movies that have made at least 1 billion at the box office, with "Jurassic World: Dominion" serving as the most recent addition to that coveted list. But only one movie gets to claim the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time: James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi blockbuster "Avatar." In a list dominated by reboots, sequels, and adaptations, an original sci-fi film from the most commercially successful director of all time reigns supreme.

Frankly, for many years, it wasn't even all that close. Only five movies have ever crossed 2 billion in ticket sales...

Jackie Chan Is Still Trying To Make Rush Hour 4
Image
It has been 15 years since "Rush Hour 3" underwhelmed moviegoers worldwide, and underperformed at the worldwide box office to the tune of 258 million on an obscenely bloated 140 million budget, and absolutely no one is clamoring for more -- save for Jackie Chan. The tireless, seemingly indestructible movie star might've turned 68 this year, but he's still in superb physical shape, and game to risk life and limb (within reason) for our viewing pleasure.

Jackie is a marvel. He's made some of the greatest action movies of all time, and, at the age of 68, has more than earned the right to wind down as he enters his later years. And yet I'd be disappointed if the Energizer Bunny of martial arts stars up and quit the business while he's still upright. Making movies is his lifeblood. I fully expect him to be at it in his nineties like Clint Eastwood.

So I'm...
