Jehnny Beth Announces New Album You Heartbreaker, You, Shares “Broken Rib”: Stream
Image
Jehnny Beth, vocalist of the post-punk band Savages, is releasing her second solo album, You Heartbreaker, You, on August 29th via Fiction Records. In anticipation, Beth has shared lead single “Broken Rib” and its accompanying music video.

You Heartbreaker, You is the follow-up to Beth’s debut solo record, To Love Is To Live, which was released in 2020. The new album has nine tracks and is described as “visceral, abrasive, and cathartic” in a press release. It was produced by Beth’s longtime partner and collaborator Johnny Hostile, who also worked on her first album. See the artwork and tracklist below.

“We’re living in a dark time, full of drama, and barbarous tragedy. It became clear to me that, in these times, we either learn how to scream really well, or we learn how to whisper,” Jehnny said about the album in a statement.

The first preview, “Broken Rib,...

Classic Doctor Who Star Reveals 1 Big Complaint About the Modern Series
Image
Former Doctor Who star Peter Purves has complained that the modern version of the Disney+ show is "too sophisticated." Purves played companion Steven Taylor between 1965 and 1966.

Purves' character was a memorable part of the First Doctor era of Doctor Who, before much of the mythology behind The Doctor had been developed. For example, the concept of regeneration had not yet been introduced during Steven's travels with the First Doctor, nor had there been much exploration of the Time Lord race.

Peter Purves Shares His Complaints About Modern Doctor Who

According to BBC News, Purves shared his thoughts on the current version of Doctor Who while attending an unofficial exhibit for the show at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. He called modern Who "far too sophisticated for [his] simple brain."

"We used to have stories that were very simple, you went from there to there, you had a cliffhanger at the end of an episode,...

Oliver Stone & Blake Lively's 13-Year-Old Action Thriller Hits Peacock in April
Image
Oliver Stone's action thriller movie Savages will soon hit Peacock. Starring Blake Lively as part of its ensemble cast, the film debuted to mixed reviews in July 2012.

Savages will arrive on Peacock on April 1. Based on Don Winslow's 2010 novel of the same name and directed by Stone from a screenplay he wrote, the movie follows Lively's Ophelia "O" Sage, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Ben Leonard, and Taylor Kitsch's John "Chon" McAllister Jr., an ex-Navy Seal. Johnson and Kitsch's characters are best friends and marijuana growers who confront the Mexican drug cartel after Ophelia's kidnapping. Savages also stars Benicio del Toro as Miguel "Lado" Arroyo, Salma Hayek as Elena "La Reina" Sánchez, John Travolta as DEA Agent Dennis Cain, and Mía Maestro as Dolores Arroyo.

Hunger Games franchise star Jennifer Lawrence initially signed on to portray Ophelia but dropped out before filming due to scheduling conflicts. Amber Heard,...

‘Savages’ Review: Environmentalist Stop-Motion Gem Is a Potent Political Statement With Young Audiences in Mind
Image
A mother’s death set the stage for “My Life as a Zucchini,” the heartsore 2016 Swiss stop-motion that landed director Claude Barras an Oscar nomination for best animated feature. Now, the passing of a different maternal figure at the hands of unscrupulous men ignites the filmmaker’s eco-conscious, anti-colonial follow-up “Savages.” When a female orangutan is killed by loggers on the Indonesian island of Borneo, 11-year-old Kéria (Babette De Coster) and her father Mutang (Benoît Poelvoorde) adopt her adorable offspring and name it Oshi. Kéria becomes immediately protective of the young ape.

“Savages” deems those willing to enact such violence against other living creatures as uncivilized brutes, destroying the Earth for money while Indigenous peoples live in accordance with age-old principles of coexistence with nature. A musical number in Disney’s “Pocahontas” contrasted the same notions. Yet, even if departing from a rather obvious, if timely, environmentalist premise, Barras and...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Steamy Three-Way Scene With Blake Lively in $83 Million Flop Is the Most Unexpected Pop Culture Nugget
Image
S-x is back in Hollywood, baby! And this time, it is not just about being bold, it’s nuanced, intentional, and woven into the story in the best possible way. Recent films like Challengers, Saltburn, Babygirl, and Anora are pushing boundaries, making these moments feel natural and impactful.

Blake Lively, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Taylor Kitsch in Savages | Credits: Universal Pictures

Zendaya’s infamous threesome in Challengers broke the internet, but let’s not forget, Blake Lively pulled it off way back in 2012 with Savages, and no one batted an eye! Here’s the full scoop.

Remembering Blake Lively’s unexpected three-way scene in Savages

Hollywood is currently stepping into a new era, where erotic scenes and subjects are finally being explored in a more thoughtful and genuine way. Rather than just being a spectacle for audiences to watch, these moments have become a powerful tool to reflect characters’ emotions, underlying motives,...

'Kraven the Hunter' Failed, But Aaron Taylor-Johnson's 'Savages' Is Great
Image
Quick Links Aaron Taylor-Johnson in 'Savages' The Main Selling Point of 'Savages' 'Savages' Explores How Far Men Will Go When Pushed to the Brink

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to get wild with the release of Kraven the Hunter this weekend, but the actor found himself on the wrong side of a Mexican drug cartel in the 2012 action thriller Savages. Directed by Oliver Stone, the film was viewed and promoted as a sort of return to form for the director, appearing more in line with his more provocative films like Natural Born Killers.

While Savages wasn't near the level of that film in terms of its unflinching look at society and the media, Savages did see Stone reveling in a similar style aided by a stellar ensemble cast that was more than ready to match Stone beat for beat. While the veterans of the cast...

La famille Savage (2007)
Doctor Who | Animated re-creation of lost William Hartnell story The Savages coming in 2025
La famille Savage (2007)
The lost Doctor Who story The Savages, first aired in 1966 and starring William Hartnell, will be animated for release in 2025.

We’re edging ever closer to a time where we’ll be able to watch every missing Doctor Who story in animated form. The most recent release was 1966 story The Celestial Toymaker, which broke the mould by using a surrealist, 3D animated style befitting the Toymaker’s aesthetic.

The BBC’s sticking with the William Hartnell era for its next animated reconstruction, as the corporation has confirmed that the 1966 story The Savages will be the next episode to be animated.

The official description reads as follows:

In The Savages, the Doctor (William Hartnell) and his travelling companions, Steven (Peter Purves) and Dodo (Jackie Lane), arrive on an unnamed planet where they encounter two distinct people – the Elders and the Savages. They soon discover the Elders are the evil, draining the...

Slade Wilson's unconventional approach to handling magic involves violence and cunning that Superman would struggle with. Deathstroke's strategy against magical foes is fast, hard, and aimed squarely at the face. The limits Superman places on himself make him vulnerable to magic, highlighting the importance of response and reflex in magical combat.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers For Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #1!

Deathstroke could easily give Superman a masterclass in overcoming one of the Man of Steel's greatest weaknessesmagic. However, it's doubtful that Clark Kent would ever seek out Slade Wilson as a tutor, considering the mercenary's approach to handling magic is anything but conventional, often involving a level of violence and cunning that Superman would find hard to stomach.

Cannes Review: Savages is a Beautiful Stop-Motion Animation Exploring the Complexities of Modernity
Image
Eight years after My Life as a Zucchini premiered in Directors’ Fortnight en route to winning two Césars (and nabbing one Oscar nomination), Swiss director Claude Barras returns to Cannes with Savages, an emotionally resonant stop-motion fable that looks at rampant deforestation on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.

A tight 87 minutes, Savages wastes no time tossing us directly into the action as pre-treen Kéria and her palm-oil-extractor father witness his employer’s murder of an orangutan. Despite this killing occurring off-screen, it is very distressing. The father-daughter duo act quickly to hide the lone survivor, a baby orangutan, in their bag. With this harrowing opening, Savages relays that the death and destruction at the center of its narrative will not be sugar-coated for children.

This very cute orangutan is named Oshi, due to the sneeze sound he makes, and is primarily an accessory for the 11-year-old Kéria––a...

‘Savages’ Review: A Heartfelt and Galvanizing Animated Film Calls for Environmental Protection
Image
Films about the ecological stakes of contemporary life often center the results of unfettered human consumption. By showing the abuses suffered by the environment, they function as both an urgent warning and a desperate plea. Claude Barras takes a different route in Savages (Sauvages), his incisive and edifying animated feature about an 11-year-old girl trying to protect her land and people from encroaching deforestation.

Premiering at Cannes, Savages focuses on elemental beauty and the dignity of community-driven preservation. It is the latest film from the Swiss director whose last film My Life as a Zucchini premiered at Cannes in 2016 and went on to critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination. As in that movie, Barras does not condescend to or patronize his youngest audience members. Savages, written by Barras and Catherine Paillé in collaboration with Morgan Navarro and Nancy Huston, is uncompromising in its messaging, deceptively spare in its instruction and absolutely gorgeous to look at.

The Boogeyman' Isn't an Adaptation of Stephen Kings Story, It's a Sequel
Image
With Rob Savages The Boogeyman, horror fiends may have noticed that the film is not exactly faithful to the beloved Stephen King short story it is based on. For starters, Kings protagonist, Lester Billings, only shows up for a few minutes, played by the always formidable David Dastmalchian. Instead, the movie follows two new characters, Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) and Sadie (Sophie Thatcher), sisters who become targets for the titular monster. Thats because Savages The Boogeyman is not a direct adaptation of Kings short story. Its actually a sequel.

Claire Foy, Richard E. Grant to Lead Peter Glanz Period Movie ‘Savage House’ (Exclusive)
Image
Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.

Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).

Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.

“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.”

The Wages of Fear: Netflix drops teaser for latest remake
Image
Another remake of classic – make that two classics – is headed to Netflix, as the streaming giant has just released the teaser for The Wages of Fear, first made in 1953 and later most notably remade by William Friedkin with 1977’s Sorcerer.

In the trailer, we see an explosion and the chaos of the aftermath, with a voice saying, “There is a gas pocket feeding the flames. To put it out, we need to blow it up.” This sets up the plot of The Wages of Fear, which finds a team driving to the location in trucks filled with nitro…and they’re on a timeline of just 24 hours.

Helmed by action director Julien Leclercq, The Wages of Fear looks to bring a lot more of his trademark action to the screen than its predecessors. Henri-Georges Clouzot’s original The Wages of Fear (Le Salaire de la peur) is, as far as I’m concerned,...

Oliver Stone Clears Up Resurfaced ‘Barbie’ Comments, And Deadline Owes Him A Mea Culpa For Serving Up An Old Inflammatory Quote

The Savages director said he made the remarks “before the film even came out” and while he was promoting his documentary Nuclear Now.

Oliver Stone was clearing up his Barbie comments from last year after an interview with the filmmaker resurfaced recently. Deadline took a deserved shot from him also. Click below to see the whole statement by the multi-Oscar winner:

“At the time, I was busy promoting my nuclear documentary in Europe and had little to no knowledge of the project beyond its title,” he said in a post he shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. His comments resurfaced virally but he made it clear that he said them before he watched Barbie in theaters last July. That is too long a time span to be served back up as fresh aggregation.

Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Chapter Ten
Injustice is always bad but worsens when prejudice comes into the mix.

Two young men were arrested in connection with the murder of Brooks on Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 2, and the circumstances surrounding the arrests couldn't be vaguer. This triggered Perry and Della to take their case when they realized the victims and their families were helpless without them.

Perry, who had been struggling with the direction his law firm had taken with their case choices, came alive at the prospect of ensuring someone was not abused by the law and jailed or murdered for a crime they didn't commit.

After the Dodson trial, Perry vowed not to take on criminal cases because they are emotionally taxing, and the victory from the Dodson case became useless a few months later.

But how could he not take this on in the face of such injustice?

This case is not easy, and...

Watch Savages Mesmerize With Dynamic 'Adore' on 'Colbert'
Savages mesmerized with the bone-chilling, dynamic "Adore" – the centerpiece of the post-punk band's second LP, Adore Life – Tuesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The performance found singer Jehnny Beth crooning her sparse lines over Gemma Thompson's icy guitar texture and the droning rhythm section of bassist Ayse Hassan and drummer Fay Milton. "Is it human to adore life?" Beth asked, her question growing in angst and volume at each repetition, jumping an octave at the abrasive climax.

Savages spoke to Rolling Stone in January about the themes of the acclaimed Adore Life.
