Elizabeth Bishop was born on February 8, 1911, in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was an American poet and short story writer. From 1949 to 1950 she was the Poet Laureatte of the United States. In 1956 she won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and in 1970 she won the National Book Award. She died in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 6, 1979.
