GOP Leaders Are Telling Lawmakers to Simply Stop Hosting Town Halls
Image
Republicans may be publicly celebrating President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s slicing and dicing of the federal government, but their constituents are growing increasingly angry — and they know it. The GOP’s response has been to turn and run.

According to sources who spoke to Politico, Republican National Campaign Committee Chair Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) outright told lawmakers to stop holding town halls with voters during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.

Republicans returned to their districts last month only to be met with legions of angry constituents demanding...

Melania Trump Makes First Solo Appearance Of Husband’s New Term To Push For Bill Addressing Revenge Porn And AI Deepfakes
Image
First Lady Melania Trump made her first solo appearance of her husband’s new term, visiting Capitol Hill to lobby for passage of legislation that would ban the publication of non-consensual sexually exploitive images, including revenge porn and AI deepfakes.

Social media platforms would be required to remove such images within 48 hours. The bill makes it a crime to knowingly publish such non-consensual intimate visual depictions.

“In today’s AI-driven world, the threat of privacy breaches is alarmingly high,” the first lady said at a roundtable. “As organizations harness the power of our data, the risk of unauthorized access and misuse of personal information escalates. We must prioritize robust security measures and uphold strict ethical standards to protect individual privacy.”

She also criticized Democrats by noting that more were not present at the event, even though the legislation is co-sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-mn). Rep.

White House Says Musk Will Decide His Own Conflicts of Interest. Uhhh …

As Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) continues to wreak havoc with the internal mechanics of the federal government in its efforts to gut and dissolve vital agencies, the White House is signaling that it has no problem with the richest man on the planet serving as his own ethics watchdog.

Speaking to reporters today, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fielded a question about Musk being a special government employee while his various companies have billions in government contracts, and whether the Trump administration was taking steps...

Jesse Eisenberg on Tech Bros Pivoting to Politics: “Why Are They Not Spending Every Day Helping People?”
Image
Jesse Eisenberg, who famously portrayed Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, is sharing his perspective on several tech billionaires pivoting to politics with Donald Trump back in the White House.

The Oscar-nominated actor-director made an appearance on the latest episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, where the host prompted him for his thoughts on the topic.

“You played Lex Luthor in the Superman movie [2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice] and it’s interesting because I see Zuckerberg now at the inauguration and he’s right at the seat of power,” Bill Maher said. “You kind of played Lex Luthor as a tech bro, and you must have some feelings, because you also played, famously in The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg. What do you make of all that’s going on with the tech bros?”

Eisenberg responded, “I look at it from a very specific perspective, which is if...

Senators who passed the TikTok ban are realizing a lot of people won’t like it
Image
At the time of this article, recent updates suggest that the U.S. Supreme Court will not rule in TikTok‘s favor this week. If that prediction comes true, the “divest-or-ban” law — which forces TikTok to be either divested from parent company ByteDance or banned in the United States — will go into effect on January 19.

TikTok has warned that the divest-or-ban law (which is more likely to result in the latter of those outcomes) will have massive economic and legal ramifications if enacted. The embattled app sees the U.S. statute as an overzealous regulation that would unfairly target specific companies while limiting Americans’ civil liberties.

As the final countdown to the law’s start date continues unabated, some of the politicians who initially passed it are starting to see TikTok’s point. Senators and Congresspeople who voted in favor of the bill are receiving widespread hate on social media,...

Democrats Are Already Rolling Over for Trump. Republicans Are Loving It
Image
Donald Trump will soon start his second term as president. Don’t expect a strong opposition party or healthy “resistance” movement this time, at least not in Washington during the “shock and awe” start of his new administration. With 10 days before the president-elect is sworn in, Democrats in Congress are already capitulating to Trump harder than virtually anyone expected — and Republicans are ecstatic over the degree to which Trump and the GOP’s wins have “paralyzed” the Democratic elite.

On Tuesday, four dozen House Democrats joined Republicans in passing a...

Charlamagne tha God Warns the Internet Is Making America a “Divided Country”
Image
Charlamagne tha God, a popular podcaster and co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club, called out the internet for creating division among Americans on Thursday.

“Look, this is a divided country. We’re polarized, and it’s getting in the way of really talking to one another. But you know what else is getting in the way? The internet, Ok, and particularly the way the internet works right now,” the media mogul said at a Project Liberty conference while moderating a discussion titled “At a Digital Crossroads: Bipartisan Tech Solutions to Unite a Nation.”

“The internet is one of the reasons we don’t know how to talk to each other no more. The platforms that control it, the way they manipulate what you see and how they sweep up all your data without paying most of us a dime. But a lot of us are seeing it,...

The DNC Officially Refused to Put a Palestinian Speaker Onstage

Chicago — In one of the most moving moments of the Democratic National Convention, on Wednesday night, the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old American who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, took the stage at the United Center and spoke of the anguish they’ve experienced over the 320 days since their son was taken hostage.

They called for the release of the other hostages, including 8 American citizens, and for a cease-fire deal that “ends the suffering of the innocent civilians in Gaza.”

But the DNC’s invitation to the family...

“(T)he greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election.”

Rep. Ro Khanna Explains Why Democrats Should Look to Hollywood “For Much More Than Money” (Exclusive)
Image
Representative Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th congressional district, held a fundraiser with Paris Hilton and Joseph Gordon-Levitt on May 28, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

Khanna, a Democrat, is currently seeking reelection for his seat, competing against 26-year-old Republican candidate Anita Chen in the upcoming November election.

He was introduced to Hilton a few years ago. The congressman tells THR he has had a “long friendship” with Hilton’s husband Carter Reum, the co-founder of the technology-focused venture capital firm M13. Khanna said Reum is “one of the most innovative technology leaders and investors in the country.”

A couple of years ago, Khanna met with Hilton regarding her long-standing push for more oversight of abusive youth centers. The heiress and reality TV personality has been vocal about her time at a “troubled teen” center in Utah, alleging in her memoir that she was beaten multiple times, “digitally” raped,...

Bill Maher Says Artificial Intelligence Should Be a Bigger Concern Than TikTok
Image
Amid the U.S. House passing a bill this week that would ban TikTok, Bill Maher wasted no time Friday sharing his thoughts on the controversial matter.

To kick off the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time, the host joked during his monologue, “China, you know what, you can manufacture everything else that we use, but keeping our kids stupid, that’s our job.”

The bill, which passed by a vote of 352-65 in the House, would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app if its China-based owner, ByteDance, doesn’t sell it. Lawmakers have expressed concerns that the company’s current ownership structure is a national security threat. President Joe Biden has said if Congress passes the measure, he will sign it, however, the bill has to pass the Senate first.

Later on Real Time, during his discussion with Republican Rep. Nancy Mace and Democratic Rep.

Bill Maher Urges Audience To Lighten Up, Even As His CAA Partygate Snub Erupts
Image
Bill Maher tapes his show, which means news that breaks on Friday is usually not mentioned.

Such was the case on Friday’s Real Time, as earlier in the day, stories broke that Maher has fired his longtime agents at CAA, allegedly over not being invited to agency head Bryan Lourd’s A-list house party during Oscars week.

Ironically, Maher’s “New Rules” editorial was about the trend toward whining about the small stuff in life.

“Being obsessed with your mental heath is bad for your mental heath,” he proclaimed. He tied it to why President Joe Biden’s approval rating is so low “when things are pretty good.” He cited the modern blessings of next day shopping, stuffed crust pizza, and porn on your phone. So “cheer the f**k up,” he advised.

“Yes, you are on the spectrum,” Maher said. “So’s everyone alive. That’s why they call it a spectrum.

Image
The latest U.S. lawmaker to interact with politically-minded creators is Ro Khanna. The U.S. Congressman (D-ca) hosted a live stream that took place outside the White House and included input from streamers like Vaush and Emma Vigeland.

The three-hour stream ranged across hot-button issues like climate change, affordable housing, and student debt. The influencers joined Khanna in groups, with Vaush (real name Ian Kochinski) and Vigeland helping the Congressman kick off his broadcast.

The creators who linked up with Khanna are some of the strongest political voices on platforms like Twitch. Vaush has made headlines thanks to the lively debates he’s engaged in on social media. According to The Washington Post, another creator who met with Khanna in D.C. is Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti, who has used her platform to fight back against transphobic trolls.

U.S. Rep Barbara Lee on Strikes, Senate Campaign and Dissent: “I Was Called a Traitor”
Image
Of the thousands of members of Congress who have served throughout history, few will be remembered, with rare exceptions. Those who become presidents, or Speaker of the House, or have buildings named after them are less likely to be forgotten. Then there are those whose policy stands solidify their legacies. When California Representative Barbara Lee became the lone member of Congress to vote against the war in Iraq in 2001, she became a target of nonstop hate mail and death threats. Now, decades later, as she strives to become just the third Black woman in American history elected to the United States Senate, her willingness to take a stand in the face of such adversity years ago has emerged as a political asset, landing her high-profile endorsements from colleagues like Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). In the latest THR “Power Watch” column, Lee — who was the subject of the 2020 Starz documentary Barbara...

Incredible feat: Top US leaders celebrate India's lunar success
Kamala Harris
Washington, Aug 24 (Ians) From Vice President Kamala Harris to Ambassador Eric Garcetti, top American leaders congratulated India for the historic touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the southern polar region of the moon, calling it an ‘incredible feat’.

“Congratulations to India for the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the southern polar region of the moon,” Indian-American Kamala Harris wrote on X on Thursday as India became the fourth country to achieve the feat after the US, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union.

“It’s an incredible feat for all the scientists and engineers involved. We are proud to partner with you on this mission and space exploration more broadly,” Harris said.

Last month, India signed the three-year-old Artemis Accords, a US-led international partnership on planetary exploration and research.

The Artemis Accords is closely linked to NASA’s Artemis Program, which aims to return astronauts to the moon’s surface, build a space camp there,...

Dianne Feinstein Taken To Hospital For Brief Stay After Falling At Her Home
Image
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca) was briefly hospitalized on Tuesday after a fall.

A spokesperson for the 90-year-old lawmaker said in a statement, “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home. All of her scans were clear and she returned home.” TMZ first reported the news, but her office said that their original report was inaccurate in that she is not currently hospitalized.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that he spoke to Feinstein on Wednesday morning and “she said she suffered no injuries and briefly went to the hospital as a precaution. I’m glad she is back home now and is doing well.”

Feinstein was diagnosed with shingles earlier this year, something that kept her from Capitol Hill for nearly three months as she recovered. Her health has been the subject of intense speculation among reporters and Capitol Hill staffers,...

Indian diaspora's success story has changed how US views India
Image
New Delhi, July 22 (Ians) The rapid rise of Indian-Americans from politics to administration, entrepreneurship to technology, medicine to hospitality, science to academia has put the global spotlight like never before on the high-achieving four million-plus strong diaspora.

The community happens to be the most educated with the highest median income in the US, with an average household earning of $123,700 — making them the top earners in the US among other Asians in the country.

As the profile of the Indian American community — now the second-largest immigrant group in the US — has grown, so too has its economic, political, and social influence, according to a recent Carnegie Endowment study.

In 2010, only 18 per cent of Americans saw India as “very important” to the United States, according to The Chicago Council survey.

Now, India is perceived by Americans as their seventh favourite nation in the world, with 70 per cent of people viewing India favourably in 2023, says a Gallup survey.

Deadline’s Strike Talk Podcast With Billy Ray & Todd Garner Week 6: What DGA Deal, SAG-AFTRA Strike Authorization Mean For Hollywood; Union Talk With Ro Khanna & Becca Balint
Image
Billy Ray and Todd Garner are back for Week 6 of the Writers Guild standoff on Deadline’s Strike Talk podcast. Click below to listen.

This week, our hosts look at what the seismic developments of the past week will mean. Hailing it as groundbreaking, the Directors Guild agreed tentatively to a deal, and will bring it to membership shortly. At the same time, about 48% of SAG-AFTRA members cast votes on whether to authorize an actors strike if a deal isn’t struck the month’s end, and an overwhelming 97.91% of those voting gave the guild a strike authorization. Armed with that resolve, the guild has just began negotiating with the AMPTP, while there’s still no progress on getting back to the table with the writers.

The WGA picket line presence is still being felt: While DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter saw her guild make a tentative deal, the series...

Congressman Ro Khanna on DeSantis’ Fatal Flaw, AI Regulation and How the Media Should Cover Trump
Image
While representing Silicon Valley’s 17th congressional district, Democratic congressman Ro Khanna has pulled off a unique political balancing act. He’s successfully positioned himself as a progressive capitalist, supported by billionaires in Big Tech while serving as a co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ last presidential campaign, which pilloried the billionaire class. But Khanna sees bringing disparate groups and ideas together as the key to success in politics and life.

After getting a law degree from Yale, Khanna interned for former President Jimmy Carter and former Vice President Al Gore, as well as volunteered for one of President Barack Obama’s early campaigns. He eventually served in the Obama administration before heading into private practice at a high-profile Silicon Valley law firm. He lectured at Stanford, then launched his own political career, running unsuccessfully for Congress once, before winning on his second try. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Khanna discusses his Hollywood staples,...

Congressman Ro Khanna Speaks In Solidarity With Striking Writers On Picket Line, Addresses Rise Of AI: “ChatGPT Is Not Going To Produce ‘Hamlet’ ”
Image
As striking writers gathered Wednesday afternoon outside Netflix’s Manhattan headquarters, they were greeted by a visitor from what might be considered enemy territory: U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democratic congressman whose 17th district sits in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley.

Khanna, here as an ally, gave a rousing speech through a bullhorn to demonstrators as their protest got underway on the second day of the WGA strike. “Many of us in Congress will be standing with you in your just fight,” he said to cheers.

Before then, Khanna spoke with Deadline about the disruptions caused by technologies, such as streaming and artificial intelligence, that have emerged from the computational laboratories in his home district.

“Writers are the heart and soul of the entertainment that we watch,” he said, adding that the models for compensating them “have changed because of the technology in my district in Silicon Valley.

Dianne Feinstein, Congress‘ Oldest Member, Won’t Seek Reelection
Image
Dianne Feinstein, the 89-year-old Democratic senator from California who has been mulling whether to run for another term in 2024, announced on Tuesday that she will, in fact, not be doing that.

“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein wrote in a statement. “Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives. Each of us was sent here to solve problems.

Elizabeth Warren Endorses Porter’s Bid to Oust 89-Year-Old Dianne Feinstein
Image
Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s colleagues aren’t waiting for her to formally announce her retirement from the U.S. Senate before backing would-be successors: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has put her “full support” behind Rep. Katie Porter, the Orange Country-area lawmaker and Warren protégé running to replace the 89-year-old California senator.

“Katie delivers because she’s smart and she has a backbone made out of steel,” Warren said in her endorsement. “She is exactly who Californians need as their next Senator.”

Warren’s early embrace of Porter’s candidacy is...

The Race to Replace America’s Oldest Lawmaker Is Officially On
Image
The nearly 90-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein hasn’t said whether she’ll seek reelection to the U.S. Senate. The next generation isn’t waiting to find out: Rep. Katie Porter has announced her bid for Feinstein’s seat. And she certainly won’t be alone in doing so as other high-profile California Democrats, like Rep. Ro Khanna, publicly mull a run.

“Right now California is facing severe storms and floods, and my district is facing historic weather conditions,” Khanna tells Rolling Stone. “My focus is on that. In the next few months,...

California Congresswoman Katie Porter Announces Run For U.S. Senate In 2024
Image
Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) announced on Tuesday that she is running for the U.S. Senate in 2024.

Porter, who has gained a media profile for her hard-hitting questioning of House committee witnesses, while often using a whiteboard to explain complicated topics, is seeking the seat currently occupied by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca). Feinstein, 89, who has served in the Senate since 1992, has not yet revealed her plans, but there has been widespread speculation that she will not run again.

“California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy,” Porter said in an announcement video she posted on Twitter.

Porter served on the natural resources and oversight and reform committees in the last Congress. She chaired the natural resources subcommittee on oversight and investigations. She was elected to Congress...

Musk reveals how Twitter suppressed Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020
Image
San Francisco, Dec 3 (Ians) Praising Indian-origin Democrat Ro Khanna, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has released internal ‘Twitter Files’ that revealed how the micro-blogging platform took orders from the US President Joe Biden’s team to suppress the censorship of his son Hunter Biden’s laptop story, published by the New York Times during the 2020 US presidential elections.

Musk tweeted a link to the account of independent journalist and author Matt Taibbi, who posted a series of tweets revealing the Twitter Files.

“On October 14, 2020, the New York Post published ‘Biden Secret Emails’, an expose based on the contents of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop,” Taibbi posted late on Friday.

He claimed that Twitter took “extraordinary steps to suppress the story,” removing links and posting warnings that it may be unsafe.

“They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases, e.g. child pornography,” Taibbi posted.

Bill Maher Rises From Despair And Celebrates Election Day Turnaround By His Fellow Travelers
Image
The White House was said to be “giddy and gleeful” in the wake of Election Night’s surprisingly strong showing by Democrats. But the administration has nothing on the mood of Bill Maher, as exhibited on Friday’s Real Time.

A week after a downbeat Maher was ready to throw shovels of dirt on America while anticipating its demise at Republican hands, the comedian returned in a jubliant mood. “I haven’t had a text from Joe Biden in three days,” he said in his warmup. “I feel like he’s ghosted me.”

Maher seemed amazed at the turn in fortunes, noting that Pennsylvania may have been the biggest surprise. That’s the state where the polished Dr. Mehmet Oz “lost to a guy who dresses like the airline lost his luggage.”

Noting that ex-President Donald Trump is suffering a backlash, with many now touting the 2024 prospects of Florida Gov.

Priyanka Chopra ushers in Diwali applauding NYC move to declare it a public holiday from 2023
Image
Priyanka Chopra welcomed Diwali with a shoutout to Jennifer Rajkumar, the first Indian American woman to be elected Member of the New York State Assembly, who lobbied to get Diwali declared a public-school holiday in New York City from 2023.

Rajkumar, whose 2020 Assembly race was endorsed by California Congressman Ro Khanna, represents certain neighbourhoods in the Queens and also chairs the sub-committee on diversity in law. New York City, incidentally, is home to more than 2,00,000 people of Indian origin.

Chopra, who’s best-known in the U.S. for her performance in the FBI drama series ‘Quantico’, reposted a video to her Instagram Story where Rajkumar announced the news. Along with the video, Chopra wrote: “After all these years! My teenage self-living in Queens is crying tears of joy. #representationmatters.”

Last Diwali, Chopra, who’ll be seen soon with Richard Madden in the sci-fi television series ‘The Citadel’, had posted pictures of the celebrations at her home,...

Bill Maher Talks About ‘The View’ And CNN’s Jeff Zucker, Calls For Questioning Covid-19 Authority
Image
You are allowed to disagree, Bill Maher argued during his Friday Real Time on HBO. And he brought up two instances of news this week from the world of television to underline his point.

Maher talked about Whoopi Goldberg’s crisis and suspension from The View because of her analysis of what the Holocaust was really about. Maher, who has been targeted by Goldberg in the past, said he was not in favor of her cancellation, “as much as I disagree with her crazy statements.”

He pointed out Goldberg’s show is called The View, emphasis on “The.” That’s the problem in America,” he said. “There is one true opinion, and everyone else can go sit in the corner.”

He pointed out a time where Goldberg defended quarterback Michael Vick, who was suspended from football for his role in a dog fighting ring. Goldberg was a rare defender of Vick when that situation emerged,...

Paris Hilton Visits Capitol To Advocate For Reform Of “Troubled Teen Industry”
Image
Reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday buzzed over the sightings in Senate hallways of Paris Hilton, the reality star who met with lawmakers to advocate for protections for youth in congregate care facilities.

At a press conference just outside the Capitol, Hilton said, “Today I come here not as Paris, but as a survivor.”

“For 20 years I couldn’t sleep at night, as memories of physical violence, feeling of loneliness, the loss of years rushed through my mind when I shut my eyes.”

“This was not just insomnia. It was trauma,” she said.

Hilton said that when she was a teenager, “I woke up to two large men in my bedroom,” asking her if she “wanted to go the easy way or the hard way.”

She said that she thought she was being kidnapped, but she was physically dragged out of her house and being sent to a residential care facility,...

Democrats Are Letting the Promise of a $15 Minimum Wage Slip Away
Image
It doesn’t look like a $15 minimum wage is going to happen anytime soon.

It sure seemed like it had a chance for a while there, though. Democrats wanted it in the coronavirus relief bill, which they’re gearing up to pass through reconciliation, a measure allowing the Senate to advance budget-related matters with a simple 50-vote majority rather than the 60 votes typically required to pass legislation without bringing the filibuster into play. But not just anything can be passed through reconciliation, and the it’s up to the Senate...

Why Sex Workers Are Wary of Kamala Harris
Image
In many ways, Sen. Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his vice president is historic: She is the first woman of color on a major party ticket, as well as the first female vice-presidential Democratic pick in more than three decades. Yet many on the left were not overly pleased with the pick, pointing to Harris’s somewhat regressive record when she was district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California. Among these critics were sex workers’ rights advocates, who have been vocal about Harris’s...

‘The Swamp’ Review: An HBO Documentary About Three ‘Drain the Swamp!’ Republicans Who Can’t See Their Own Swamp
Image
If you want to meet a Republican politician who’s the ultimate poster boy for shameless apple-polishing — the kind of eager conservative loyalist who would crawl across broken glass to shine Donald Trump’s shoes — you should watch “The Swamp,” the new HBO documentary, and get a load of Matt Gaetz, a congressman from Florida who got swept into the U.S. House of Representatives by the Trump tidal wave.

Gaetz is a real piece of work. At 38, he’s got the baby-faced, handsome-but-not-too-dashing, smile-by-committee looks and easy-talking facility of a jock bro who was popular in high school and is now a mid-level bank manager. If you had to describe what his job is, the most accurate thing to say might be that Gaetz is a congressman who plays a congressman on TV. With his Chris O’Donnell immaculateness, he’s a constant presence on Fox News and CNN, mouthing his talking points,...

Andrew Yang: We Need Universal Basic Income to Save the Economy from a Coronavirus Depression
Tim Ryan
Washington — Andrew Yang has dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary, but his signature plan to give every American adult a $1,000 a month has never been more popular.

With the novel coronavirus likely to plunge the economy into a recession and decimate the livelihoods of people who own small businesses or work in jobs without a guaranteed salary, lawmakers across the political spectrum have come out in favor of direct cash payments as a response to the pandemic. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-n.Y.) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hi) as well as Sen.

Useful Idiots: Ro Khanna on Military Spending and the 2020 Primary
Matt Taibbi in The Daily Show (1996)
In this week’s episode of our Useful Idiots podcast, hosts Matt Taibbi and Katie Halper are joined by Congressman Ro Khanna of California, who also serves as a national co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign. They discuss the DNC’s role in Iowa caucus debacle, and the prospects for New Hampshire and beyond (note: this episode was taped before the New Hampshire primary).

Khanna, who unseated an eight-term incumbent Democrat for his seat in 2016, sits on the House Armed Service Committee, Budget Committee, and Oversight Committee. He has made...

How Sex Workers Helped Write a Bill to Study the Effects of Sesta/Fosta
When a group of bills known as Sesta/Fosta was introduced in early 2018, it garnered widespread bipartisan support. The bills were intended to curb online sex trafficking, a goal that was easy for lawmakers to get behind, and one that few wanted to be seen actively opposing. One of the few dissenting votes was from Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California. In addition to his broader concerns about how Sesta/Fosta could potentially chip away at free speech on the internet, he had received calls from sex workers in...

It Isn’t Much to Ask That Cops Have a Higher Standard for Killing People
Stephon Clark lived and died in Sacramento. When the 22-year-old father of two was shot and killed by local cops after a foot chase in the spring of 2018, it provoked the largest national uproar over a police killing of an unarmed black man since the groundswell of protests that began with the death of Michael Brown and the Ferguson uprising five years ago this week. The Sacramento officers who took Clark’s life were not charged with any crime.

It didn’t happen in Rep. Ro Khanna’s district, but it was close enough.

Did Bill Barr Lie to Congress?
Robert Mueller wrote a scathing letter to Attorney General Bill Barr in late March, blasting Barr’s infamous four-page summary to Congress because it did “not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the special counsel’s findings. That is the takeaway from a bombshell report published Tuesday evening in the Washington Post.

Mueller’s letter, sent days after Barr’s cursory briefing of March 24th, blamed Barr’s communique for spurring “public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation” into the Trump campaign’s contacts...
