This June, Movistar Plus+ will unveil “Pedro x Javis,” a three-part documentary series paying tribute to the life and work of celebrated Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. Created and hosted by celebrated filmmakers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known locally as Los Javis, the series blends documentary storytelling with musical performances and reimagined scenes from Almodóvar’s films in a bold new format.

At the heart of “Pedro x Javis” is an intimate, in-depth conversation between the three directors. Filmed over several days, their exchanges are rich with unexpected confessions, emotional memories, and previously unrevealed insights into the two-time Academy Award winner’s creative journey. “I think I’ve talked too much,” Almodóvar wryly commented on the process.

With the show offering a fair share of satirical depictions of the uber-rich and a nostalgic coming-of-age story, Acapulco will drive viewers towards such heartwarming comedy-dramas that are often set in fancy resorts. With veteran Mexican actors such as Eugenio Derbez and Damián Alcázar leading the ensemble, similar light-hearted streaming titles would make for good companion watches.

Spanish thesp Luis Tosar has joined the cast of sci-fi comedy “Golem,” produced by Spain’s top indie house Aquí y Allí Films.

Directed by Juan González and Fernando Martínez (a.k.a. Burnin’ Percebes), the project toplines Brays Efe, star of Netflix hit series “Paquita Salas,” Goya Award winner Bruna Cusí (“Summer 1993”) and Javier Botet.

Aquí y Allí Films’ Pedro Hernández and Elamedia’s Roberto Butragueño produce the film, scheduled to roll in Madrid from August.

Elamedia will distribute in Spain.

Aquí y Allí is one of the five Spanish companies selected by Spain’s trade promotion board Icex and the Icaa film institute to pitch their production slates at Cannes’ Producers Network.

HBO Europe is adding to its growing Spanish slate with “Por H o por B” (“Whatever”), a comedy series produced by Globomedia, part of TV giant The Mediapro Studio, and new Madrid-based company Lacoproductora.

Written and directed by Manuela Burló Moreno, the 10-episode half-hour takes the characters from her Goya-nominated short film “Pipas,” with actresses Marta Martín and Saida Benzal reprising their roles as friends Hache and Belén.

The two childhood friends living in the hipster Madrid neighborhood of Malasaña – a far cry from their roots on the outskirts of the city. The inevitable cultural clash leads to a cataclysm of ridiculous and awkward consequences as they navigate their friendship, and the fake new world they’re now a part of.

“Por H o por B” has started to shoot in Madrid, with Brays Efe, Itziar Castro, Javier Bódalo and Fernando Albizu also joining the cast.

HBO Europe is doubling down on scripted in Spain with a hipster series set in Madrid. The premium broadcaster has ordered Por H o por B. The comedy is written by Manuela Burló Moreno and the characters are based on her own short film Pipas.

The series, which has an English working title of Whatever, stars Marta Martín and Saida Benzal, who will reprise their roles as friends Hache and Belén. The 10-part half-hour series is produced by Lacoproductora and Globomedia.

It comes after HBO Europe ordered an adaptation of Fernando Aramburu’s novel Patria, Isabel Coixet’s Foodie Love and Alex de la Iglesia’s 30 Coins.

Por H o por B follows Hache and Belén, who are reunited after a few years of not speaking to each other and find themselves living in the hipster Madrid neighborhood of Malasaña – a far cry from their roots on the outskirts of the city.
