Image
Project Hail Mary got a soft launch at CinemaCon.

The Phil Lord and Christopher Miller film got a share of the spotlight during Amazon MGM Studios’ CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday night inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas thanks in large part to mega star Ryan Gosling. It actually got prime position in kicking off the studios’ inaugural presentation with a cold open that went straight into exclusive footage that lasted several minutes. Once it wrapped, Lord, Miller and Gosling hit the stage to talk about their collaboration.

Based on The Martian scribe Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, Project Hail Mary follows middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He must figure out how to complete his interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone,...

Sabrina Carpenter Rumored To Have Met With Disney About Playing Rapunzel In Live-Action Tangled Movie
Image
Coming off persistent rumors that Disney was planning to move forward with a live-action remake of 2010's Tangled, we finally got confirmation that the project is officially in development last year.

Despite reports claiming that Baz Luhrmann was being eyed to direct, THR announced that Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) was officially in talks to take the helm.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who helmed Sony’s upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, wrote the latest draft of the screenplay. Producers include Kristin Burr for Burr! Productions, along with Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club).

Florence Pugh was rumored to be in line to star as Rapunzel, but according to scooper Mttsh, Sabrina Carpenter has now met with the studio about potentially playing the lead role.

This isn't the first time we've heard the pop sensation's name mentioned in connection with this project, but previous rumors have...

Agatha All Along Star Kathryn Hahn Rumored To Be Up For Mother Gothel Role In Live-Action Tangled Movie
Image
Last month, we got confirmation that a live-action remake of Disney's 2010 animated classic Tangled is officially in development, and the project may have found its villain.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn is being eyed to play Mother Gothel. If the actress - who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the Disney+ series - does land the part, she will likely return to play Gothel in a spin-off focusing on the character.

Though nothing has been confirmed, Disney is believed to be developing a number of baddie-centric live-action projects to tie-in to the planned Villains Land Disneyland attraction. In addition to a Mother Gothel movie, we have heard that Queen of Hearts and Snow Queen films are also in the works, and this is said to be why the Hercules adaptation was repurposed to focus on Hades.

In Tangled, Mother Gothel is a vain,...

Tangled Might Be Disney’s Next Unnecessary Live Action Film
Disney doesn’t learn. Their recent live-action reimaginings have been hit or miss and not exactly box office winners, and their upcoming “Snow White” is looking like it will be a big disaster. So what does Disney do next? Apparently, they will move forward on more live-action remakes like “Tangled.”

Deadline has reported that Disney is in talks with Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) to direct the live-action “Tangled” remake.

It’s said to “follow along the lines of the animated version.” So why do we need this?

So far, Disney has a writer for the film- Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who was behind the box office bomb “Thor: Love and Thunder.” They also have hired Kristin Burr and Lucy Kitada to produce the film.

This article might seem like I’m crapping on Disney, but the live-action remakes are getting ridiculous, and they have proven to be declining at the box office.

Live-Action ‘Tangled’ in the Works at Disney From ‘Greatest Showman’ Director Michael Gracey
Image
The Disney live-action remake machine chugs along mercilessly, with 2010’s “Tangled” the next animated classic to get reimagined. Michael Gracey, who made “The Greatest Showman” and this year’s Oscar hopeful “Better Man,” is in negotiations to direct the project. He will work from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, of “Do Revenge” fame. Producers include Kristin Burr and Lucy Kitada for Burr! Productions.

The original “Tangled” was released back in 2010 and was directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, based on the classic Grimm brothers fairy tale. That film saw Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) team up with a charming thief (Zachary Levi) in order to escape captivity from Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy). The songs were by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and they are still some of the most beloved songs from a Disney animated feature.

Since opening in 2010, “Tangled” inspired a theatrical short (2012’s “Tangled Ever After”), a long-running...

‘Tangled’ Live-Action Movie in the Works With ‘Greatest Showman’ Director Michael Gracey
Image
Things are starting to get hairy as Disney lands a director to lead its live-action adaptation of Tangled.

Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) is in negotiations to helm the new version of the studio’s animated feature. The original Tangled hit theaters in 2010 and centers on Rapunzel, who was voiced by Mandy Moore.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is helming Sony’s reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, wrote the latest draft of the screenplay for the new Tangled film. Producers include Kristin Burr for Burr! Productions, along with Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club).

No casting details have yet been shared.

Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale about Rapunzel, the original Tangled focuses on the long-haired character (Moore), who has spent her life trapped in a tower until she hatches a plan with a would-be thief (Zachary Levi). The film surpassed $590 million at the worldwide...

Image
Disney is going back to the well of live-action remakes and is looking to “The Greatest Showman” and “Better Man” director Michael Gracey to bring its 2010 animated film “Tangled” to life in live-action.

Though rumored and fan-casted for several years now, a “Tangled” live-action film is now officially in development at Disney, and Gracey is in negotiations to direct the feature, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson wrote the most recent draft of the script, and Kristin Burr is producing under the Burr! Productions banner along with producer Lucy Kitada (“The Baby-Sitters Club”).

No cast has been set just yet, and the plot details are being kept under wraps. But the 2010 “Tangled” was a re-imagining of the classic Rapunzel fairy tale in which a thief, Flynn Rider, stumbles upon her in a castle and introduces her to the wide world. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi...

Borderlands' Rotten Tomatoes Score Just Broke 17 Records
Image
Borderlands movie breaks records with a disappointing 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, disappointing many involved. Cate Blanchett and eight other actors set personal record lows with their involvement in Borderlands. Director Eli Roth sees Borderlands as his worst-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, with only a 9% rating.

Borderlands' Rotten Tomatoes score breaks several records, just not in the way everyone involved would have hoped. The first-ever live-action adaptation of 2K and Gearbox's popular video game franchise attracted top talent from across Hollywood. Lionsgate eventually landed Eli Roth as the director, with Cate Blanchett and others headlining Borderlands' cast of characters. The talent involved even grew through the movie's reshoots, which brought Deadpool's Tim Miller aboard to handle the additional photography. All this was done in the hopes that the Borderlands' reviews and the general response would be favorable, leading to a box office hit franchise.

Unfortunately, the reaction to the 2024 video...

Borderlands featurette focuses on the dysfunctional family at the heart of the story
Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, and Eli Roth in La Prophétie de l'horloge (2018)
Filming wrapped on director Eli Roth‘s adaptation of the Borderlands video game series from Gearbox and 2K way back in June of 2021. A year and a half later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after sixteen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. The Borderlands reshoots have been completed, Thanksgiving has come and gone, and Lionsgate is now gearing up to finally release Borderlands into the world on August 9th… and with that date right around the corner, a featurette has arrived online to give us a look at the “dysfunctional family” of characters at the heart of the story. You can watch it in the embed above.

‘Borderlands’ Trailer: Cate Blanchett Travels to a Weird World
Image
Cate Blanchett’s Lilith travels to a planet she hates to find a massive treasure hidden in a vault in the first trailer for Lionsgate’s Borderlands. Lilith can’t do the treasure hunt alone and is forced to team up with an odd assortment of people on a planet that has an actual gully made of piss.

The trailer gives off Guardians of the Galaxy vibes, and the film obviously doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The action thriller stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, Ariana Gleenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis.

Borderlands trailer: Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis star in Eli Roth video game movie
Image
Filming wrapped on director Eli Roth‘s adaptation of the Borderlands video game series from Gearbox and 2K way back in June of 2021. A year and a half later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after sixteen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. The Borderlands reshoots have been completed, Thanksgiving has come and gone, and Lionsgate is now gearing up to finally release Borderlands into the world on August 9th. With just over five months to go until that date arrives, Lionsgate has unveiled a trailer for the film, and you can check that out in the embed above.

‘Borderlands’ Trailer: Cate Blanchett Is a Campy Vigilante in Eli Roth’s Video-Game Adaptation
Image
Cate Blanchett is back in a wig and a franchise, following her iconic “Thor: Ragnarok” campiness. The Oscar winner and “Tár” lead actress transforms into vigilante Lilith for Eli Roth’s star-studded “Borderlands” video-game adaptation.

Blanchett’s character is an infamous outlaw who returns to her home planet of Pandora on a mission to track down the missing daughter of the universe’s top leader, Atlas (Edgar Ramírez). Lilith enlists former elite mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina (“Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt), her bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), mad scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), and robot Claptrap (Jack Black) to help.

“These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power,” the synopsis reads. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

Borderlands: Eli Roth video game adaptation gets an August 2024 release
Image
Filming wrapped on director Eli Roth‘s adaptation of the Borderlands video game series from Gearbox and 2K in June of last year. Seven months later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after seventeen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. Roth’s Thanksgiving slasher is scheduled to reach theatres on November 17, 2023, the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday. Now Deadline has broken the news that Borderlands will reach theatres about eight months later, on August 2, 2024. So we still have a year to wait before we’ll be able to watch this one.

We had heard that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin wrote the screenplay for Borderlands, but according to Deadline the final script was actually written by Roth and Joe Crombie.

Simpson was set to executive produce the project, along with Patrick Moran for his Pkm Productions and Amazon Studios. Lauren Auslander and Lacy Lynch were also on board as executive producers.

Despite Cancellation, ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ Big Emmy Wins Renew Hope of Series Revival or TV Movie Reunion
Image
Could “The Baby-Sitters Club” be making a comeback? The series was canceled by Netflix after two seasons earlier this year in March, and talk has swirled since about the series being shopped for a revival — or at least a TV movie — elsewhere.

But now there’s a bit more momentum for the show: “The Baby-Sitters Club” won two awards at the Children & Family Emmys this weekend, for both outstanding writing for a live action preschool or children’s program and outstanding children’s or family viewing series.

“We’re talking about it in a very preliminary way, talking about if we can bring it somewhere else. Or if we could do maybe like a movie, like kind of a wrap up special,” executive producer Rachel Shukert told Variety. “The girls obviously are older now than they were when we started and they’ve really grown up. So I think we...

Mila Kunis Runs From the Past in the Haunting Trailer For Netflix's "Luckiest Girl Alive"

Content warning: this post contains descriptions of sexual assault.

Netflix released the trailer for the film on Sept. 6.

Though "Luckiest Girl Alive" is a fictional story, Knoll previously told the "Today" show that her novel - which sold over 450,000 copies - was shaped by her own experiences. In the book, Ani survives a gang rape, a similar experience the author had when she was 15 years old and assaulted by three boys at a party. "I knew it the morning that I opened my eyes. I just felt horrible and...
