This post contains spoilers for season 3 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is not shy about lifting heavily from past "Star Trek" episodes. The series basically remade the classic episode "Balance of Terror" twice during its first season, first spiritually in "Memento Mori" and then literally in the season 1 finale "A Quality of Mercy."
"Hegemony," the two part episode that closed "Strange New Worlds" season 2 and opened season 3, had a cliffhanger and resolution that echoed the famous "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Best of Both Worlds." For the latest "Strange New Worlds" outing, "Through the Lens of Time," the series pulls from a less beloved "Tng" episode.
"Through the Lens of Time" guest stars Dr. Roger Korby (Cillian O'Sullivan), archaeologist and boyfriend of Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush). The Enterprise is assisting Korby...

This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3, episode 4, "Through the Lens of Time."
The latest episode of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," called "Through the Lens of Time," sees the discovery of an impossibly ancient temple located underneath a mountain. Although its age is mind-boggling, the technology embedded in the temple still works. In order to gain access through its nostril-like entryway, Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) has to insert her hand into a blood-extracting device. Ancient temples, ineffable technologies, and blood offerings all give "Through the Lens of Time" a Lovecraftian feeling.
Inside, the crew find a series of small glowing glass orbs that contain something they can't identify. One of the orbs ends up bursting open, sending shards of glass -- and a mysterious energy of some kind -- flying into the eyeballs of Ensign Gamble (Chris Myers). Ensign Gamble's eyeballs are destroyed, but something...

Ever since news broke that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude with a shortened fifth season, fans have been eager to know what’s next for the franchise. As it turns out, co-creator Akiva Goldsman and co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers already have a new series in mind that would pick up right where Strange New Worlds leaves off. The potential project, dubbed Star Trek: Year One, would take place during the first year of Captain James T. Kirk’s five-year mission.
Goldsman has previously told TrekMovie that the finale of Strange New Worlds will show Kirk’s first day in command of the Enterprise, but he feels that there’s some wiggle room between that moment and Where No Man Has Gone Before, the first episode of The Original Series to feature Kirk. “Strange New Worlds ends on Jim Kirk’s first day of work as captain of the Enterprise,...

Ken Foree plays an unforgettable role in one of the great movies ever made, the George A. Romero classic Dawn of the Dead (get it Here) – so it’s nice to hear (as reported by our friends at Bloody Disgusting) that the makers of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds decided to pay tribute to Foree in their recent, unexpected zombie episode! In the third episode of Strange New Worlds‘ third season, the crew of the starship Enterprise ventured to a planet that was overrun by zombie-like creatures – and this planet was called Kenfori! The Ken Foree reference even made it into the title of the episode: Shuttle to Kenfori.
Word of the tribute quickly made its way to Ken Foree himself, who posted on social media, “I know this is out there, but I wanted to share this with you as well. It’s an honor and...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds costume designer Bernadette Croft explains how the series paid homage to William Shatner in its hit murder mystery episode.
Speaking to Variety, costume designer Bernadette Croft discussed the work that went into bringing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' recent murder mystery episode, "A Space Adventure Hour." Croft touched on shopping around for old homes to use for an on-location shoot, as well as putting together the cast's period-accurate outfits. "For Kirk [Paul Wesley], we thrifted the belt and the jeans, and we used some vintage vendors for his jacket and under layers," Croft said. "We wanted him to have that lived-in, James Dean, Shatner vibe: the classic every man, but still quite suave."
Former franchise star and Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes, who directed the episode, also spoke about the experience. "We all had a ball," Frakes said. "First of all, we were on location,...

Turning Star Trek: Strange New World's crew into puppets is no easy feat.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Strange New World showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers talked to Entertainment Weekly about its boldest genre mashup yet and how long the process of puppet-ifying their show took.
According to Myers, "I wanna say there was easily more than six months of work on it," later going in-depth on the logistics of making this work for a large, live-action Star Trek set. "In production, we'd have long conversations with our director in mind, specifically about how to handle puppets.... We had to have a lot of conversations about making puppets. We had to have a lot of conversations about how to handle our crew, because we also have to have a whole crew of puppeteers. In the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "A Space Adventure Hour," Lieutenant LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) is asked to test out a brand-new technology on the U.S.S. Enterprise: a holodeck. As Trekkies can tell you, the holodeck is a dedicated room that can create artificial, fully interactive environments, complete with sophisticated NPCs, using holographic emitters, replicator tech, and carefully calibrated force fields. The technology was first introduced, in rudimentary form, in an episode of "Star Trek: The Animated Series" in 1974, although the concept wouldn't be codified until the first episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987. That was when the term "holodeck" was first used.
The holodeck became the source of many, many "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episodes thereafter. Many of the holodeck concepts were created by the late Trek writer Tracy Tormé. Because it could create simulated environments, the show could have a lot...

This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3, episode 4, "A Space Adventure Hour."
What would Spock do with a holodeck? This is the type of pie-in-the-sky theoretical question that has no doubt powered a thousand works of fan fiction and dozens of spec scripts, but until this week, it's not actually something "Star Trek" fans could answer. After all, the holodeck -- a sort of multipurpose virtual reality space fueled by imagination and powerful programming -- didn't exist in Gene Roddenberry's original 1960s "Star Trek" TV series.
That's never stopped "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" from getting creative before, though. In a season that's already added a new chapter to the history of the Gorn and confirmed a long-running theory about "The Original Series" scallywag Trelane, the natural next step is to somehow make a holodeck episode happen ... a century before holodecks were a thing. As such,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Episode 4 “A Space Adventure Hour.”] The latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is, in a word, fun. But such is the case for pretty much every episode of this Paramount+ series, which, since it premiered in 2022, has been one of the most entertaining shows on television. But with “A Space Adventure Hour,” Strange New Worlds goes so meta, with a low-budget knock-off Star Trek series within the episode, which introduces a prototype of the holodeck. La’an (Christina Chong) is tasked with testing it out, and she has Scotty (Martin Quinn) create a simulation based on a detective series, Amelia Moon. In it, La’an is the detective, while Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, Melissa Navia, Jess Bush, and Paul Wesley all play characters, crew members, executive producers, and the like from the aforementioned TV show, The Last Frontier.

Since “The Next Generation” first powered up the holodeck, “Star Trek” episodes have been able to use the fabled sci-fi device to create whatever environment someone can program. The conceit — thanks to replicator technology, holograms, and the suspension of disbelief — has given us a pipe-smoking Data playing Sherlock Holmes, Capt. Janeway starting a morally complex relationship with an Irish barman, and the creation of Vic Fontaine and his nightclub on Deep Space Nine.
Starfleet is in the early stages of developing the holodeck in the time of “Strange New Worlds,” and Season 3’s “A Space Adventure Hour” has the USS Enterprise beta testing the technology. The episode follows holodeck episode tradition, and in it, we see the cast take on new characters, new costumes, and more than a few wigs.
Anson Mount’s Capt. Pike tasks Christina Chong’s La’an to run the nascent program through the wringer to see how it holds up.

Earlier this year, Star Trek fans got the disappointing news that Strange New Worlds would be ending after a truncated fifth season. The news was almost worse, but for the creative team behind the show, a promise made was a debt unpaid, and they worked to bring the series to a satisfying conclusion. They discussed the show's final season with Collider's Steve Weintraub at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con.
Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman explained how the six-episode fifth season — which is four episodes shorter than a standard Paramount+ Star Trek season — was a compromise with the network. "The original messaging from the studio as we were done, they wanted us to be done after 4." He went on to add:
"We had made a commitment to the fan base, and to the narrative, that we would get right up against Tos [The Original Series], like we’d about it, because there are a lot...

Security alert! This article contains spoilers for season 3, episode 3 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
There are a whole bunch of amazing legacy characters on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," ranging from Ethan Peck's take on the half-human, half-Vulcan Spock to Jess Bush's bubbly but brilliant Nurse Chapel, and that can make it a little tricky for the characters who are new to the franchise. It's a shame, too, because one of the very best characters in "Strange New Worlds" is also the most overlooked: Melissa Navia's Lieutenant Erica Ortegas. The helmsman of the U.S.S. Enterprise is a cool, confident pilot who can do amazing things, and unfortunately she's mostly taken a (metaphorical) backseat to the rest of the crew when it comes to screentime and storylines.
While season 2 gave Ortegas fans more of the fabulous flier, it really wasn't enough. Thankfully the show's writers and producers listened,...

Captain Pike has been turned into a puppet in the new teaser for the fourth season of “Star Trek: Strange New World,” which was shared with fans at San Diego Comic Con Saturday.
“Hit it,” Muppet Pike says in the new video — “hit it” being the thing he says when he wants the ship to go to warp speed — before confusedly adding, “You heard me say hit it, right? Spock? Anyone?”
“Did you go to season four without me?” he adds.
The trailer appears to hint at an upcoming episode that will feature the cast as puppets. There might have been an unexpected and terrible transporter accident,” said executive producer Akiva Goldsman at Sdcc. “Which might have had some unexpected felt-like effects.”

A new teaser for the next season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds promises a Star Trek episode unlike any other. It offers a glimpse of Enterprise commander Captain Christopher Pike, who possesses the gravity-defying hair and dulcet tones of Anson Mount, but is otherwise...a puppet. The clip was revealed during the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con today. The fourth season of Strange New Worlds is now in production and is expected to be released next year on Paramount+.
The clip begins with dramatic music, focusing on the back of Pike's command chair on the Enterprise's bridge as it slowly pans around, revealing that the captain is now a somewhat hilarious puppet. His "hit it" catchphrase goes unheeded on the otherwise deserted bridge, and Pike soon becomes concerned that everyone else went to Season 4 without him. Star Trek: Strange New Worldsstar Martin Quinn has successfully taken on the role of an iconic Star Trek character. Quinn first appeared in the Strange New Worlds Season 2 finale as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott -- the chief engineer made famous by James Doohan in Star Trek and later played by Simon Pegg in the Kelvin Timeline movies.
The Scottish actor was made a series regular ahead of the third season of Strange New Worlds. Now, in a new interview with ScreenRant, Quinn is opening up about what makes it easier for him to play Scotty -- especially compared to another legendary Star Trek character.
“It’s not as bad as for Ethan [Peck], because I feel like Spock can't even put any hesitation in," Quinn said, "whereas I can kind of like scratch myself and ums and ahs, you know, lots of hesitation, but not as tricky."

Star Trek: Strange New Worldsactor Martin Quinn reveals the key reason he thinks playing Scotty is easier than Spock. The series streaming on Paramount+ follows the crew of the USS Enterprise years before Captain Kirk takes over command of the iconic Starfleet vessel. Quinn made his way onto the Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, following in the footsteps of James Doohan and Simon Pegg playing the famous engineer.
In an interview with ScreenRant's John Orquiola, Quinn reveals he believes it's easier to play Scotty than Spock as an actor. He elaborates that Spock actor Ethan Peck has to deliver all of his lines quickly and precisely, whereas Quinn can hesitate on delivering some of his lines. Check out his quote below:

This article contains spoilers for the first two episodes of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 3.
Back in 2023, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" closed out its second season with a cliffhanger, but the biggest surprise of that finale, "Hegemony," was the debut of future Enterprise chief engineer, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. That character was played by James Doohan in the original "Star Trek" TV series and its spin-off films, and then by Simon Pegg in the Kelvin timeline "Star Trek" reboots.
In "Strange New Worlds," Scotty is played by newcomer Martin Quinn, the first actual Scottish actor to play Scotty. In "Strange New Worlds" season 3, Scotty/Quinn is now part of the main cast, but he's still not chief engineer just yet; that's his old professor Pelia's (Carol Kane) job. The second episode of season 3, "Wedding Bell Blues," revealed that's not the only thing that's different about this younger Scotty.

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a more direct prequel to the original show than "Star Trek: Enterprise." Set less than a decade before "The Original Series," "Strange New Worlds" follows the U.S.S. Enterprise, captained by Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), who has some familiar faces already on the crew: Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), and now Scotty (Martin Quinn).
"Strange New Worlds" is unafraid to call back (forward?) to classic "Original Series" episodes, even if the show still sticks (mostly) to "Trek" canon. For example, the show has brought back the reptilian Gorn as recurring villains, setting up Captain Kirk's (William Shatner) famous clash with a Gorn in the 1967 "Original Series" episode "Arena," and Lieutenant LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) is a descendant of the most infamous "Star Trek" villain, Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán).

While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may be coming to an end with season 5, the showrunners want to see the continuing adventures of the USS Enterprise. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is currently streaming on Paramount+, but it is already known that the show will end after its fifth installment.
The series follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the Enterprise years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. As Pike's fate is already known, the commission will eventually go to James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley). The crew of Tos is being introduced a piece at a time, slowly inching towards the legacy show.
In an interview with ScreenRanti's Joe Deckelmeier, showrunners Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman were asked about the future of the crew of the Enterprise after Strange New Worlds ends, and if some Tos stories would be retold with the new cast.

When we last left the crew of the Starship Enterprise in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 2 finale, "Hegemony," things weren't going too well. The vicious alien Gorn had abducted half of the bridge crew. War between Starfleet and the Gorn risked going hot. Captain Pike's (Anson Mount) lover Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) was infected with Gorn hatchlings. Pike himself was paralyzed by indecision as the Gorn ships bore down on the Enterprise; Admiral April (Adrian Holmes) called the Enterprise back to the fleet, not leaving them time to rescue their shipmates. The ship's second in command, Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), called for orders from the helm, but Pike didn't give them.

There’s a reason it’s the most entertaining Paramount+ Trek series, and the beginning of Season 3 continues to show that. The bad news: Over the course of the first two episodes, Spock (Ethan Peck) and Chapel (Jess Bush) part ways when she goes off on her fellowship, then she returns with a new boyfriend Korby (Cillian O’Sullivan), the landing party escapes and is rescued from the Gorn — resolving the Season 2 finale — but Ortegas (Melissa Navia) is seriously injured and beginning to show the effects of her trauma, and Pike (Anson Mount) is facing losing Batel (Melanie Scrofano) due to the Gorn infection. We sat down with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars Rebecca Romijn, Christina Chong and thenMartin Quinn and Jess Bush to talk about the ever-evolving world of Trek in Season 3 — and what makes this latest chapter one of the boldest yet. From stepping onto the legendary USS Enterprise bridge to slipping into those iconic uniforms, the actors share pinch-me moments from behind the scenes and their genuine love for the legacy they’re helping shape.
They reflect on what keeps Star Trek relevant after decades: its genre-bending storytelling, hope-driven missions, and character-first focus. Chong and Romijn discuss the shift back to “mission-of-the-week” episodes, their admiration for the set designers, and the ongoing challenge of playing flawed heroes who feel both powerful and vulnerable, while Quinn and Bush revel there is a Star Trek cast WhatsApp group, and how the show continues to evolve with more comedy, bold storytelling, and that brilliant “vintage future” aesthetic.

In the original Star Trekseries, James Doohan played Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, who faithfully served the U.S.S. Enterprise as its chief engineer. Now, Scottish actor Martin Quinn is taking on the role in Paramount+'s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Speaking with Trek Movie ahead of the Strange New Worlds Season 3 premiere, Quinn, who made his debut in the Season 2 finale titled "Hegemony," talked about how his version of Scotty differs from the one that fans may be familiar with from The Original Series and the movies in the franchise. "Well, you know, he's got a long way to go before he's the Scotty everyone knows and loves from Tos," the actor explained.
"And he’s got a lot of learning to do," Quinn continued. "And he's not quite the miracle worker, quite yet. And I think it's more interesting if he's not exactly what everyone has in mind in the future.

After a two-year shore leave, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns to the screen, resuming its duties as the flagship of Paramount’s modern fleet. The series solidified its position by skillfully reviving the franchise’s foundational premise: a capable crew, led by the eminently decent Captain Christopher Pike, engaging in episodic exploration aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in the years just before Kirk’s command. It became a fan favorite precisely because it remembered that a good space adventure didn’t always need to be a season-long referendum on the galaxy’s fate.
The third season continues this mission with a confident, almost casual swagger. It leans heavily into the playful, genre-hopping structure that has become its signature, delivering polished and often delightful installments. Yet, an unmistakable shift in narrative philosophy has occurred.

Ready to hit it one last time? Ahead of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Season 3 premiere on 17 July, and following the recent announcement of the sci-fi series' Season 4 renewal, Paramount+ has confirmed that the five-year mission of Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the starship Enterprise is set to reach its conclusion right on cue with a fifth and final six-episode season.
With Season 4 of Strange New Worlds currently in production, presumably with the expectation of making a 2026 debut, Season 5 could hypothetically start shooting next year, clearing a path for the throwback adventure-of-the-week series to actually end in poetic fashion in 2027, five years after it began. At once a Trekkie dream prequel to Gene Roddenberry's original 60s Star Trek series and a perfect onboarding point for new fans looking to make their first warp jump into Trek, Strange New Worlds has already taken the crew of the Enterprise — Captain Pike,...

When Paramount+ launched in the U.S. and territories around the globe, it seemed the Star Trek franchise would thrive for the years to come.
But after the end of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, the more likely scenario is that these shows are too expensive in the current TV climate.
The streaming platform made the controversial announcement Thursday that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also be decommissioned.
