Fresh off 4 Emmy wins and a record 29 nominations, Trafficked with Mariana van Zelleris back for season 5. The award-winning journalist is doing another deep dive into deadly underground markets around the globe, and ScreenRant is honored to present a first look at the trailer. Beginning on July 19, Nat Geo (in association with Muck Media) will take viewers on a harrowing tour that encompasses cartels, bride trafficking operations, street racing competitions, and much more.
While van Zeller is well-known for her fearless reporting on black markets — a tireless effort for which she has already won Peabody and duPont Awards, in addition to the show's Emmys — Trafficked allows viewers at home to be part of the experience. As a journalist, van Zeller is well-versed in breaking down complicated criminal enterprises for the public and explaining why the dangers of ignorance are more concerning than ever in the current climate.

Exclusive: Documentaries like Blackfish, The Hunting Ground, Rbg, Three Identical Strangers and Oscar-winner Navalny put CNN Films on the map.
It was a map that Amy Entelis, EVP, Talent, CNN Originals and Creative Development had started in 2012 with the launch of the division.
However, a pandemic, corporate changes imposed by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery and a changing documentary market led to “somewhat of a hiatus” over the last few years, according to Entelis, who has been with the business for 13 years.
But the unit is hoping to roar back to life with two projects – a Chevy Chase documentary from Marina Zenovich and a cancer documentary from Janet Tobias – signaling a “new phase”.
Its return follows the appointment of former BBC Director General Mark Thompson as CEO and Chairman of CNN in August 2023 and three high-profile acquisitions including Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story involving some of its corporate siblings.

The Titanic is the ship that won’t go away, even while resting at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean.
April 14 marks the 113th anniversary of the R.M.S. Titanic’s sinking, and we’re now 28 years removed from the blockbuster movie. Step aside, Jim Cameron, Nat Geo’s now got that Avatar tech.
National Geographic and Atlantic Productions’ Titanic: The Digital Resurrection released an impressive trailer on Tuesday, April 8. The 90-minute documentary from filmmaker Anthony Geffen uses “exclusive access to cutting-edge underwater scanning technology, including 715,000 digitally captured images,” per Nat Geo. All of that comes together to create “a full-scale, 1:1 digital twin, accurate down to the rivet.”
The technology is supplied by deep-sea mapping and engineering company Magellan. How deep of a sea-mapping company are they? The Titanic resides 12,500 feet below the surface. For some context, that Titan submersible voyaging to the wreckage imploded at a depth of more than 10,000 feet.
