10 Movie Sequels That Took Over 10 Years To Happen & Were Worth The Wait
Image
Sometimes, a movie is so good that it immediately makes the audience hungry for more. Often, studios attempt to capitalize on this desire by churning out sequels as soon as they possibly can, even if it means pushing out a movie sequel with a massive budget. By doing this, they can continue to keep people excited about the franchise, maintaining its status as a lucrative outlet for the company. The downside of this strategy, however, is that the need to rapidly produce these movies can often come with the consequence of having to sacrifice the high level of quality achieved by the original film.

Once in a while, though, a studio makes the bold decision to make audiences wait quite a while before giving them the sequel they have been craving. This is a risky move, as it can result in losing the excitement surrounding the franchise, but it also...

Armie Hammer Set for Lead Role in Uwe Boll’s Vigilante Thriller ‘The Dark Knight’ (Exclusive)
Image
Armie Hammer’s comeback is picking up steam after nabbing the starring role in Uwe Boll’s latest film, “The Dark Knight.”

Hammer is set to play the crime-fighting titular character in the vigilante thriller, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in Croatia on Jan. 27.

The embattled actor, who saw his career come to a halt in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct, recently returned to work in Travis Mills’ forthcoming western “Frontier Crucible,” which also stars Thomas Jane and William H. Macy.

Following a lengthy probe, Los Angeles prosecutors in 2023 declined to charge the actor with any crime.

Prior to the allegations, Hammer starred in such high-profile pics as Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger” alongside Johnny Depp, Guy Ritchie’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” with Henry Cavill and Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name” with Timothée Chalamet.

In a recent podcast interview, Hammer said that his...

10 Fantastic Movies Let Down by Terrible Marketing

Filmmaking is a business, where movies are carefully constructed and meticulously crafted products meant to turn a profit for major studios and independent publishers alike. But a carefully crafted product is only as successful as its marketing and branding initiatives can sell, and sometimes some of the best-crafted movies are brought down by less-than-ideal marketing campaigns.

Bad marketing is the death knell for a feature film, even if the movie is critically acclaimed and beloved by the audiences that did see it. When movies are burdened with bad marketing, even the best can fail.

Tom Hanks And The Somali Pirates Had To Be Kept Separate During Captain Phillips
Image
Paul Greengrass makes harrowing movies. He established this with his gripping 2002 Northern Ireland docudrama "Bloody Sunday," which was his springboard to Hollywood, where he turned the Jason Bourne franchise into a master class in jittery, handheld, shoot-for-the-edit cinema. These successes for Universal compelled the studio to take a managed $15 million risk on Greengrass' "United 93," his masterful staging of the heroic events that transpired on the fourth hijacked plane, which thankfully did not reach its target, on 9/11. It's his best film to date, but one that's also way too intense for many people to endure -- which can also be said of his biographical thriller "Captain Phillips."

The account of Somali pirates hijacking the shipping vessel Maersk Alabama in 2009 stars Tom Hanks as the title skipper who managed to engineer the rescue of himself and his crew from the ship. It's shot in Greengrass' trademark docudrama style, which means a lot of shaky cameras,...

UTA Boards Uwe Boll Thriller ‘Run,’ Starring Amanda Plummer, James Russo (Exclusive)

UTA Independent Film Group has acquired Uwe Boll’s upcoming migrant crisis thriller “Run,” starring Emmy and Tony award winner Amanda Plummer (“Star Trek: Picard”) and James Russo (“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1”).

UTA will handle global sales for the pic, produced by Boll’s U.S.-Canadian shingle Event Film and his German outfit Bolu.

UTA takes over from the film’s initial sales company, Stuttgart-based Kinostar, headed by “Run” executive producer Michael Roesch. The move is seen as an advantage for potential worldwide deals.

“We are thrilled to work with UTA for the global sales of ‘Run’ and can’t wait to introduce the movie to audiences around the world,” said Boll.

“We are excited that UTA loves the strong performances of our ensemble cast as much as we do, and we can’t wait to start working with them,” added Roesch.

One Ambitious Stephen King Crossover Series Ended Too Soon
Image
Andy Muschietti's mega-blockbuster adaptation of "It" kicked off a new boom of Stephen King adaptations when it hit theaters in 2017, but if we were in a boom, is it safe to say we've now hit a bust? There are still tons of new King adaptations coming (I'm excited to see Osgood Perkins' take on "The Monkey" and Bryan Fuller's horned-up "Christine" update), but the massive hits have slowed down (remember "Firestarter?"), and one major adaptation, Warner Bros' "'Salem's Lot," is only now coming out after years of sitting on the shelf.

The works of Stephen King will always continue to be rich and entertaining, whether they're dominating the pop cultural zeitgeist or not. But if one title exemplifies the fickleness of the recent King adaptation boom, it's "Castle Rock," a wonderfully complicated, delightfully mysterious King-adjacent series that unceremoniously died on the vine at Hulu despite delivering two great seasons of television.

Tom Hanks Movie With 93% On Rt That's Now On Netflix Was Part Of His Most Cursed Oscars Year
Image
Tom Hanks was seriously snubbed at the Oscars in 2014, particularly for "Captain Phillips" and "Saving Mr. Banks." Despite critical and financial success, these movies didn't receive Oscar nominations. Hanks' acting abilities sometimes go unacknowledged by the Academy Awards, but his fans appreciate his talents.

Tom Hanks has had a wildly successful acting career, but one of his best movies that was just added to Netflix highlights just how badly he was snubbed at the 2014 Academy Awards. Hanks has had a bit of good fortune with the Oscars: he's been nominated six times, with five of those nominations being for Best Actor. He also won the Best Actor Oscar twice in a row, for 1994's Philadelphia and 1995's Forrest Gump. All of Tom Hanks' best movies have been successful, usually both financially and critically, but some of them went underappreciated at the Oscars.

What Happened To The Real Captain Richard Phillips

Tom Hanks' movie Captain Phillips is based on the memoir of Captain Richard Phillips titled A Captain's Duty. Phillips' memoir provides a detailed account of the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates and his life after the event. Phillips retired from his maritime career in 2014 and now speaks publicly about his experience.

Captain Phillips: What Happened To Real Somali Pirate Abduwali Muse After The Hijacking
Image
Abduwali Muse was the only surviving pirate of the Maersk Alabama hijacking. Muse pled guilty to six felony charges and was sentenced to 405 months, or nearly 34 years, in federal prison. Muse is currently serving his 33-year sentence in a federal prison and will be released in 2038 with five years of supervised release.

Abduwali Muse was a main focus of Captain Phillips, but the movie never explained what happened to the pirate after the hijacking. Captain Phillips focuses on the true story of the hijacking of the Maersk Alabama. On April 8, 2009, Abduwali Muse and three other Somali pirates boarded the Maersk Alabama, took control, and eventually fled in a lifeboat with Captain Richard Phillips as their hostage. It was the first time a United States ship was boarded by pirates since the early 1800s, and the true story behind Captain Phillips was just as intense as the movie depicted it.

Is Tyson's Run Based On A True Story?

This film follows Tyson, a 15-year-old autistic boy played by Walking Dead actor Major Dodson, who has complicated family relationships. In order to gain his father’s praise, he decides he is going to run a marathon. In order to succeed with this goal, he teams up with a champion runner named Aklilu. How can I make this my career?'” remembers Abdi, who beat out more than 1,000 hopefuls vying for the role from open casting calls in Minneapolis, Ohio and San Diego, cities home to large populations of Somali Americans. “She asked me how many Black actors I see in movies each year, and I said, ‘Not that many.’ She then said, ‘Whatever you do...

10 Live-Action Adaptations That Took Their Stories Beyond The Source Material
Image
Creating original sequels to adaptations can expand the story beyond the source material's reach. Certain mediums, like TV shows, can be more effective for book adaptations than feature films. Some adaptations diverge from the source material, crafting new narratives and timelines, as seen in various successful shows and movies.

The success of a live-action adaptation can sometimes lead to another installment, but sometimes extending the story means the project falls outside the remaining source material - that is if there is any left at all. When this happens, the approach taken by the producers can vary. While one of the most common ways a story can be fleshed out after the source material has been exhausted is to write an original sequel, sometimes the new entry into the canon takes place before the already-established events.

Live-action adaptations can become TV shows or feature-length films. However, there are various examples that...

These anxiety-inducing series, while tough to get through, are rewarding in their ability to provoke internal questions and provide unique insights into dark realities and cringe-inducing moments.

Certain television shows have featured compelling characters, strong storylines, and wonderful writing, but are just so anxiety-inducing that they can be difficult to get through. Television shows such as these are a testament to the media’s power to make audiences feel uncomfortable by confronting them with the dark realities of lived existence, the cringe-inducing power of comedy, and the horrific distressing nature of tragedy. ‘The Curse’ Finale Recap: Nathan Fielder Soars in an Absurd, Nightmarish Ending
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from the finale of Showtime’s “The Curse” now streaming on Paramount+.

The finale of “The Curse,” set nearly a year after the previous episode, begins in an unlikely place: the set of “The Rachael Ray Show.” Asher (Nathan Fielder) and Whitney (Emma Stone) appear on the cooking show via Zoom to promote the new season of their HGTV series, now called “Green Queen,” and explain to the masses the environmental benefits of “passive living.”

They also plan to announce their pregnancy during the live broadcast, Whitney’s baby bump purposefully in frame. But the “flipanthropist” couple is all but entirely ignored as Ray banters with her in-studio guest, “The Sopranos” star Vincent Pastore, who’s teaching her how to cook his famous meatball recipe. It’s a surreal start to a season finale that is about to get much, much weirder.

When their segment finally wraps up,...

The Curse Ending Explained
Image
This article contains spoilers for The Curse episode 10.

The first 25 minutes of The Curse‘s 10th and final episode are pretty much what you’d expect. The story of Asher Siegel (Nathan Fielder) and Whit Siegel (Emma Stone) begins to wind down and the husband-wife duo appears to have gotten (almost) everything they’ve ever wanted.

Their Flipanthropy renovation series, now rebranded Green Queen, has a spot on HGTV … albeit the HGTV streaming app but HGTV all the same. They get to promote their program on an episode of The Rachael Ray Show. Granted, Rachael is far more interested in her guest Vincent Pastore (of The Sopranos) and his meatball recipe but still … Rachael Ray! Whit is finally even pregnant, perpetually resting her hand on her bulging belly as if to reassure herself that the baby they tried so hard for is actually there. Baby Braxton, of course, is in...
