Mafia Wars writer-director Scott Windhauser takes viewers behind the scenes of the exciting new action-thriller which stars Smallville's Tom Welling.

In a new video from Screen Rant, fans of Welling get an in-depth look at the actor on location in Rome, Italy, where he takes on his first leading role in an action movie, Mafia Wars. The clip shows glimpses of Welling's character running through historic streets of Rome wielding a rifle while chasing down dangerous criminals. We also see Twilight and Without Remorse actor Cam Gigandet in action alongside Tom Welling, with scenes of Gigandet's character driving vehicles through buildings and exchanging gunfire with other characters.

Mafia Wars is an action thriller that loses momentum in the third act, which really drags the entire thriller aspect through the mud. Starring Tom Welling, who previously starred as Clark Kent in the popular series Smallville, Mafia Wars is a very different role. While he may add a certain level of star quality, it is not enough to redeem the rest of the movie from an underdeveloped script, poor pacing, and a supporting cast that was, by and large, mediocre.

Mafia Wars is a new action/thriller from Saban Films, and Screen Rant has a first look at an exciting clip. The movie tells the story of a recently paroled felon who is given no choice but to go undercover in an attempt to take down the leader of the most infamous mob syndicate in Italy. Mafia Wars was written and directed by Scott Windhauser, whose past work as a director includes the 2017 thriller Cops and Robbers starring Michael Jai White and the 2020 Western Death in Texas.

Smallville‘s Tom Welling stars in the new action thriller Mafia Wars from Saban Films. In the new trailer from the film, Welling is recruited for a dangerous undercover mission to stop a crime syndicate that has been plaguing the streets of Italy with Fentanyl and the head of this mafia wants to control all corners of the drug trade. Cam Gigandet also stars as the main villain in the film. Gigandet usually fills the shoes of antagonists in films like Never Back Down, 2016’s The Magnificent Seven remake and Silent Night.

The official plot synopsis reads,

“Terry Jacobs (Tom Welling) is a recently paroled felon forced to go undercover to bring down Griff (Cam Gigandet), the head of the most infamous mob syndicate in Italy.” The film is rated R for strong violence, drug content, language throughout, and some sexual material/nudity. Exclusive: Prolific German actor Thomas Kretschmann, star of movies including The Pianist, King Kong and the upcoming Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, is to play seminal and controversial German composer Richard Wagner in a new English-language biopic.

The movie will chart the journey of Richard and Cosima Wagner as they arrive in Venice following the prèmiere of Parsifal in 1882. The plot will turn on an alternative history, as it will see Wagner’s father-in-law, Franz Liszt, follow the couple soon after as news of a comet headed towards earth launches Wagner into composing one final piece of music.

Marton Csokas (The Equalizer) will play fellow-composer Liszt in the project which is being sold at Berlin’s EFM by Motus Studios.

Daniel Graham (Prizefighter: The Life Of Jem Belcher) is writer-director and the team is aiming to shoot in Venice in late spring, 2023.

Exclusive: Tom Welling has signed on to star in Deep Six, an action-thriller from writer-director Scott Windhauser (Death in Texas).

In the film, which will begin shooting in Rome in April, Terry (Welling) is released early from prison only to be forced to go undercover to take down the Cosa Nostra in Italy. On his first day, his fellow six-man undercover unit is taken out. Terry must then ride shotgun all day with a psychopath killer who may know he is working for the police.

Cam Gigandet (Without Remorse), Sidhartha Mallya (Brahman Naman), Cher Cosenza (Death in Texas), Al Linea (The Irishman) and Alessia Alciati will also star, with Emanuele Moretti producing for The Motus Studios.

“I really lucked out to get to work with such a great actor like Tom. I think he is really going to open a lot of eyes with his role,” said Windhauser.
