This Underrated Action Thriller Starring Matt Damon Shouldnt Be the End of Its Franchise
Image
Its hard to overstate how dramatically The Bourne Identity changed action cinema when it first debuted in 2002. While the action films of the 1990s had begun to prioritize spectacle and camp, The Bourne Identity told a grounded espionage story that felt far more realistic. Director Paul Greengrass eventually took the franchise to new heights with the two subsequent sequels, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which saw Matt Damons Jason Bourne examining the conspiracy involving the covert Treadstone program. The franchise briefly took a detour with The Bourne Legacy, a spinoff that focused on the new hero Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner). However, Greengrass and Damon reunite for the underrated sequel Jason Bourne, a colossal box office hit that nonetheless deserved better than the mixed responses it received at the time of its release.

Jeremy Renner Loves Hawkeye's 'F--k You Moment' in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'
The first "Avengers" movie was supposed to incorporate Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a lethal sharpshooter who works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and who, after being briefly introduced in "Thor," would have taken a much larger role in the superhero team-up movie. But then, after being on-screen for about 15 seconds, the character was hypnotized by Loki into doing his evil bidding and ostensibly written out of the movie until the final action sequence in New York City. That's when Hawkeye really shined... the other two hours of the movie, not so much.

So it should delight and surprise just about everyone that Hawkeye pretty much steals the show in this week's "Avengers" sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." A second-run character in everyone's eyes, since he can't fly or turn into a giant green range monster, Hawkeye's humanity ends up being his true superpower and he not only gets the...

Now that Fast & Furious 7 has formally opened summer blockbuster season 2015 up, it's time for us to take our traditional look at the big movies gracing multiplexes this time next year.

2016 is set to be a pivotal summer, too. There are big movies in both the DC and Marvel cinematic universes. Warner Bros is looking to launch the first of six King Arthur movies, whilst Universal may get cracking with its classic monster cinematic universe. And - yep - we may even get the world's first great film based on a videogame.

Summer blockbuster season 2016 stretches from March through to August, and here's what treats are lined up. Please note, we've gone with Us release dates, for the purposes of this feature, as that's where most of the films will debut first.

What Is Jeremy Renner's Future In The Bourne Franchise?
As soon as it was announced that Matt Damon will be returning to the Bourne franchise in the untitled Bourne 5, fans have been wondering what that means for Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross from The Bourne Legacy. Will that character be simply erased from the fictional world? Will he get another adventure of his own somewhere down the line? Or will he actually get to be a part of an Avengers-style team-up that sees him working with Damon's Jason Bourne? According to producer Frank Marshall, it's mostly Option B, with a chance of Option C. Marshall - who has been an executive producer on the Bourne franchise since it launched with The Bourne Identity in 2002 - recently sat down for an interview with Collider, and when asked if Jeremy Renner was still going to be a part of the franchise going forward, the filmmaker firmly confirmed that he will be.

Jeremy Renner in Jason Bourne : L'Héritage (2012)
Bourne film will not include Matt Damon, Jeremy Renner crossover
Jeremy Renner in Jason Bourne : L'Héritage (2012)
Bourne producer Frank Marshall has suggested that Aaron Cross will not team up with Jason Bourne in the next movie.

Damon is returning to the thriller series having played CIA assassin Bourne in the first three movies, while Jeremy Renner starred as Cross in The Bourne Legacy.

Marshall told Collider when asked about a potential crossover: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks.

"It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn't have a story. It's taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to."

Marshall appears to have changed his opinion, having previously stated in the lead-up to The Bourne Legacy's release: "You see there are several different [special ops] programmes...

Jeremy Renner & Matt Damon's 'Bourne' Franchises Won't Meet
Ever since it was revealed that Matt Damon was returning to the Jason Bourne franchise with director Paul Greengrass behind the camera again, fans were already hoping that there would be some kind of cross over with The Bourne Legacy franchise that Jeremy Renner stepped into in 2012. However, if producer Frank Marshall is to be believed, that may not happen at all. Though Marshall once said that Damon and Renner may be able to team up sometime down the road, a conversation with Collider indicated a complete 180 on that prospect happening as the producer says, "We don’t have plans for that." Read on! Of course, Marshall doesn't close the door entirely as he continues, "You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks." In a way that makes sense, but since both Aaron Cross and Jason Bourne have turned on...

Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross Will Not Meet Matt Damon's Jason Bourne On The Big Screen Says Frank Marshall
"You see there are several different programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt and Jeremy team up," producer Frank Marshall said, with a possible twinkle in his eye, in the lead up to the release of "The Bourne Legacy." That attempted spinoff was a disappointment both financially and creatively, and it left Universal, at least for a moment, with a franchise in trouble. Plans were still moving along for another installment starring Jeremy Renner, but then a miracle happened: Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass finally agreed to return for another 'Bourne' adventure, Renner's movie was postponed, and now it looks like Aaron Cross will be a distant memory for now. Chatting with Collider, Marshall has now switched gears entirely, and it looks like it's a Bourne-only world after all, at least as far as movies are concerned.

No "Bourne" Crossover, "Goonies 2" Update
Producer Frank Marshall is out doing press this week at the TCA Winter Press Tour and has spoken about both the next film in the Jason Bourne franchise, as well as the long-gestating sequel to the beloved family adventure film "The Goonies".

As we know, the next 'Bourne' film sees both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass return to the franchise, and as a result the next film featuring Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross character from "The Bourne Legacy" is being pushed back.

Collider spoke with Marshall and asked if there is any plans for Renner's Cross to crossover with Damon's Bourne. Marshall says: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks."

Marshall says the main reason Damon and Greengrass are returning is that they now have a story everyone is keen to do: "It was...

Producer Frank Marshall Has No Plans For A Bourne Crossover With Damon and Renner
I enjoyed about 65% of The Bourne Legacy, the Jeremy Renner-starring spin-off of the original Bourne trilogy. The entire third act was a complete joke, but I was with it up until that point, and I thought it did a pretty good job pulling back the curtain to reveal some larger scheming and machinations that had been going on during the events of the first three films. Universal was all set to put out a sequel to that film with Justin Lin on board to direct, but against all odds, they were able to convince Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon to return to reprise their roles as director and star (respectively) in a brand new Bourne film, so the Legacy sequel was pushed back.

Considering that the two films already share the same cinematic universe (something that's all the rage in Hollywood right now), and that you have two Oscar-caliber actors attached in lead roles,...

'Bourne 5' Won't Bring Damon and Renner Together
Matt Damon
Earlier this week, Universal Pictures shifted the Untitled Matt Damon Bourne Sequel from July 15, 2016 to July 29, 2016, which brings Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne for the first time since 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum. The actor had stated for years that he will not revisit the role unless Paul Greengrass comes back to direct, but back in September, Universal announced that this long-awaited sequel is finally happening. Ever since then, fans have been wondering if the studio plans on showcasing both Matt Damon's Jason Bourne and Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross from 2012's The Bourne Legacy in the same movie, since it isn't clear what is happening with the Untitled Jeremy Renner Bourne Sequel. During a new interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall set the record straight, revealing that they have no plans to bring Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross together.

"We don't have plans for that. You never know.

There Are No Plans for a Bourne Crossover With Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner
Two franchises starring Jeremy Renner are apparently going in opposite directions regarding what they want to do with the actor. For The Avengers, Renner is likely to never get a solo installment with his Marvel character, Hawkeye. He’s going to just be one of the ensemble in the big Avengers-title crossover blockbusters, and maybe he’ll show up on a future episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (if my guess about his recent Twitter tease is correct) or possibly a one-off short film at the very least. Then there’s the Bourne franchise, which he temporarily took over from Matt Damon until Damon announced his return for another sequel. We kept hearing that Renner’s character from the spin-off The Bourne Legacy would be in more movies, but once Damon’s next installment became a reality there was more assumption that the two stars would wind up sharing the screen in a crossover. “We...

Producer Says The Two Bourne Franchises Will Not Cross Over
I think we are all at least somewhat excited for the return of Matt Damon to the Bourne franchise, alongside director Paul Greengrass. But if you were expecting to see an overlapping of Damon’s Jason Bourne with Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character from The Bourne Legacy, you are going to be disappointed. According to executive producer Frank Marshall, that crossover is not going to happen.

Speaking to interviewers following a panel about an upcoming Sinatra documentary, Marshall discussed the future of the Bourne franchise, as well as several other projects he has coming up. The producer is happy to have managed to get Damon and Greengrass back together for a new Bourne film, especially given that neither seemed to want to return to the franchise initially. But while Renner’s Aaron Cross will remain a part of the franchise itself, Marshall states that there are no plans to...

Matt Damon 'Bourne' Sequel Gets a New Release Date
Matt Damon
Universal Pictures has pushed its Untitled Matt Damon Bourne Sequel back two weeks from July 15, 2016 to July 29, 2016. The release shift comes in response to 20th Century Fox moving Planet of the Apes 3 out of the July 29, 2016 date and into the summer of 2017. As of now, the Untitled Matt Damon Bourne Sequel is only going up against the 20th Century Fox comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.

We reported back in September that Matt Damon is reuniting with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass for a new Jason Bourne sequel. Nothing is known about the story at this point, and it isn't clear if there is even a screenwriter attached, but Matt Damon confirmed in November that the project will be released in 2016. The sequel must be moving along smoothly, though, for Universal to only push the sequel back two weeks.

Untitled Bourne Sequel Set for July 29, 2016; Paul Greengrass, Matt Damon, and Christopher Rouse to Write the Script
No offense to Aaron Cross and his chems, but if we have to have another Bourne movie, I'm glad it's with Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass. After years of Damon refusing to do a sequel without Greengrass to the point where Universal threw up their hands and decided to reboot the franchise, the duo is returning. Furthermore, they're going to be writing the script along with Christopher Rouse, who doesn't have a writing credit but has edited all of Greengrass' movies since The Bourne Ultimatum, which is perfect since Greengrass is known for finding the movie in the editing room anyway. Universal has also announced that the "Untitled Next Bourne Chapter" (kind of a mouthful there, Universal) will be released on July 29, 2016. Hit the jump for more. It's worth noting that this will be the first Bourne movie without the involvement of Tony Gilroy, who is credited with the...

Jeremy Renner's Next Bourne Movie Has Big Problems
Released in 2012, The Bourne Legacy marked out a new path for the spy franchise that Matt Damon built, and it did so in the casting of then on-the-rise leading man Jeremy Renner. And while the movie didn't exactly set the world on fire when it was released, it was a good way to continue the series that Damon and director Paul Greengrass declined to return to after their successful trilogy capped off with The Bourne Ultimatum. For a little while, Justin Lin looked to be moving forward with the continuing adventures of Renner's Aaron Cross. However, if you've been reading the news lately, you know just why the sequel to Renner's Bourne continuation is in big trouble for the time being. Within Deadline's announcement of Lin's inheritance of the Star Trek 3 gig, they mention just how Justin Lin's schedule opened up to take over the sci-fi franchise after the...

Justin Lin in Better Luck Tomorrow (2002)
'Star Trek 3' Gets 'Fast & Furious' Director Justin Lin
Justin Lin in Better Luck Tomorrow (2002)
Just over two weeks after filmmaker Roberto Orci backed away from making his directorial debut on Star Trek 3, Paramount Pictures has brought on Justin Lin to take the helm of this highly-anticipated sequel. He was one of five filmmakers mentioned to be in contention last week, including Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), who was said to be the front runner, Morten Tydlum (The Imitation Game), Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) and Duncan Jones (Warcraft). Out of all those filmmakers, though, Justin Lin was the only one who received an offer from Paramount.

Justin Lin is now available to make Star Trek 3 because Universal Pictures pushed his sequel to 2012's The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, in favor of a new Jason Bourne project which reunites Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass. Deadline reports that Justin Lin was also approached to direct a...

Justin Lin May Return for 'Fast & Furious 8' -- and the Series Could Be Ending
The "Fast & Furious" franchise is a perpetual moneymaker for Universal, but could it be ready to hang up its racing tires? That's the new speculation from Deadline, which also writes that longtime "Fast" director Justin Lin is being courted to return to the series for its final outing.

According to the site, Lin -- who directed "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Fast & Furious," "Fast Five," and "Fast & Furious 6" -- is widely considered the favorite to direct "Fast & Furious 8," taking over from "Furious 7" helmer James Wan. Wan has already signed on to direct "The Conjuring 2," taking him out of consideration for the "FF8" job, and Lin is a logical replacement -- especially now that there's a gap in his schedule following news that his Aaron Cross movie with Jeremy Renner is being pushed to accommodate a new Jason Bourne film starring Matt Damon.

But could Universal really...

Justin Lin Possibly Directing Multi-part Fast & Furious Finale
Director Justin Lin saved the Fast & Furious franchise, after Fast 6 was ready to move on after helming four films in the series. But because Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are now working on a new Bourne Identity movie, Lin's Aaron Cross spinoff with Jeremy Renner has been put on pause.

With Universal Studio now focused on its monster cineverse and many of the Fast & Furious cast ready to move on from the franchise, the studio has decided to wrap things up with a two part final chapter. Director of Furious 7, James Wan will be directing The Conjuring 2 next. Deadline is reporting that Lin, now with a gap in his schedule, is being tapped to close out the franchise he rescued. Nine movies is a lot more than people would have thought the franchise was capable of. I have enjoyed all but the second movie and I think it's time to end it.

Will Justin Lin Rev ‘Fast & Furious’ Finale?
Exclusive: Despite a lack of superheroes, Universal Pictures continues to bolster its franchises. The studio is going hard to revive its classic monsters franchises–I’m hearing that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski is being courted to get the Wolf Man howling again, after Uni rebooted The Mummy–but the most intriguing scenario I’m hearing is that the door has been reopened with director Justin Lin and Universal’s most valuable franchise, The Fast And The Furious films. Lin bowed out after 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. He passed the baton and signed on to direct the second installment of the Aaron Cross Bourne Identity spinoff, and horror hitmaker James Wan took over and directed the latest film, Furious 7. A lot has happened since Lin left the Fast & Furious vehicle, the one that seemed out of gas before he took over and directed four films that brought back the original cast.

Matt Damon Confirms His Return to the 'Bourne' Franchise
When the news arrived that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass had decided to return to the Jason Bourne franchise it didn't exactly seem like a sure thing as much as it seemed like the two were still waiting to give an official "yes" once the screenplay was completed. Well, it sounds like you can go ahead and ring the bell as Damon confirms in a red carpet interview with E! that he will play the character for a fourth time in what will effectively be the fifth Jason Bourne feature. It began when Ben Affleck, they were walking the red carpet for the fourth season of HBO's "Project Greenlight", said, "Well, Damon's going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So..." which led the E! interviewer to follow-up with Damon. "Yes, next year," Damon said. "It'll be in 2016 when...

Matt Damon Confirms 'Bourne 5' for 2016
Matt Damon
Back in September, we reported that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are getting back together for Bourne 5. In a new interview with E! Online, Matt Damon's longtime friend Ben Affleck confirmed that production will begin next fall on this new Bourne adventure.

"Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So..."

Matt Damon himself clarified that shooting will begin next year, with a 2016 release date already set.

"Yes, next year. It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."

The new Bourne movie will likely take the July 15, 2016 release date that Universal previously handed out to The Bourne Legacy sequel, where Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Aaron Cross. It isn't known when that project may be released.

Matt Damon confirms new 'Bourne' movie with Greengrass: 'I just needed him to say yes'
Matt Damon
Though the news ostensibly broke back in September, Matt Damon has now confirmed his return as Jason Bourne. "Yes, [I'm doing it] next year," Damon told E! News over the weekend. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes." Damon and Greengrass previously worked together on "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum," the second and third films in the long-running action franchise. A fourth entry starring Jeremy Renner as agent Aaron Cross was released in 2012, and a followup to that spinoff (set to be directed by "Fast and Furious" helmer Justin Lin) is reportedly still in the works despite being bumped from its July 16, 2016 release date by the Damon-Greengrass reteam. Greengrass previously stated that he had no interest in returning for another film, telling Deadline in a 2013 interview: "I...

Matt Damon confirms Bourne franchise return: 'It'll be out in 2016'
Paul Greengrass at an event for Jason Bourne (2016)
Matt Damon has confirmed that he will star in a new Bourne film.

The actor and director Paul Greengrass were reported to be in talks to return to the franchise earlier in the year, despite previously ruling out a follow-up to The Bourne Ultimatum.

Damon's departure from the franchise led to Jeremy Renner stepping in as new character Aaron Cross for 2012's The Bourne Legacy.

E! News recently quoted Ben Affleck as saying that Damon had inked a deal to return to the film series, leading the Jason Bourne actor to later confirm his involvement.

"[We'll shoot it] next year," Damon told the news channel. "It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out.

"Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."

Renner has expressed interest in teaming up with Damon for a future Bourne movie.

Renner On "Bourne Legacy" Follow-Up
Plans were announced several weeks back that actor Matt Damon and filmmaker Paul Greengrass were potentially coming back to the Jason Bourne franchise. In doing so, it appeared to leave the in development follow-up to the Damon-less "The Bourne Legacy" in question.

Actor Jeremy Renner indicated last month that more 'Bourne' films with his Aaron Cross character are still in the works, something which Producer Frank Marshall confirmed. Both indicated a fourth Damon-led Bourne and a second Renner-led one were moving forward as separate entities at Universal.

In a new interview with Crave Online, Renner says the script for his film still being tinkered with and ultimately he'd love to see the two characters come together:

"No, it's still moving. Yeah, it's still moving. We have our director who's actually run off to do the True Detective series right now, and then while that's happening they're finishing writing the script.

Jeremy Renner Talks 'Bourne Legacy' Crossover and Sequel Script
Jeremy Renner
When it was announced last month that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are bringing Jason Bourne back to the big screen, many wondered what that meant for The Bourne Legacy sequel that is in development, starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. Jeremy Renner revealed last month that his Aaron Cross project is still happening. He now offers new details in an interview with Crave Online, where he reveals that the writers are still finishing the script while director Justin Lin is working on the first two episodes of True Detective Season 2.

"No, it's still moving. Yeah, it's still moving. We have our director who's actually run off to do the True Detective series right now, and then while that's happening they're finishing writing the script. I know Greengrass and Damon... well, I've heard have maybe cracked an idea, a reason to continue the Bourne series, which is fantastic. They have created a very exciting universe,...

'Bourne Legacy' Star, Renner: Bring On Matt Damon!
When our exclusive scoop about Matt Damon returning to the Bourne franchise was confirmed a little while ago, many wondered what this meant for Jeremy Renner's spin-off series. When Damon and director Paul Greengrass seemingly concluded their run, Universal went full steam into The Bourne Legacy, with Renner stepping in a new lead character named Aaron Cross. The film failed to ignite a frenzy, but was still a moderate hit.

In a recent chat, while out promoting his new film Kill The Messenger, Renner confirms that his Aaron Cross is still very much alive and that he fully embraces the idea of his character crossing paths with Damon's Jason Bourne. "Let them be adversaries, let them become buddies, whatever the heck it might be, them coming together would be a pretty tremendous thing." The 43 year old actor also says loves the idea of Damon and Greengrass returning to the franchise.

Jeremy Renner Talks Matt Damon And Bourne
Like a kid trying to prise open a particularly stubborn piggy bank, there's a sense that Universal is still figuring out how best to exploit its lucrative Bourne brand. There's a sequel to the spin-off focused on Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross still rattling around in the tin, and meanwhile Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are reportedly back in the fold for Bourne 5. So will Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross eventually team up / fight / hang out in Denny's and have pancakes? Don't bet against it, says Renner. As the actor stressed to The Huffington Post, that dream Bourne, ahem, Cross-over is still on course."I think it really opens up the world and it keeps Bourne’s character active," said Renner of Damon's return during his press rounds for Kill The Messenger. "I think Cross’s character is already going to continue to be active." The bankability of the Bourne...

Jeremy Renner wants to team up with Matt Damon's Jason Bourne
Jeremy Renner in Jason Bourne : L'Héritage (2012)
Jeremy Renner has said that he wants to see his Bourne franchise character team up with Matt Damon.

Damon and director Paul Greengrass departed the franchise after 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum. The series continued with 2012's The Bourne Legacy with Renner playing new agent Aaron Cross.

However, studio Universal has entered talks with Damon and Greengrass to return to the franchise for a sequel due in summer 2016. Renner told The Huffington Post that he wants to see Cross and Bourne together in the same movie.

"I think it really opens up the world and it keeps Bourne's character active," Renner said of Damon's potential series return.

"I think Cross's character is already going to continue to be active. I think it will take creatives to bring them together, which is what I think is ultimately the plan."

He continued: "I love the idea of Greengrass and Damon, or whatever it might be,...

Jeremy Renner Says Return Of Jason Bourne "Opens The World," Talks 'Avengers' Plus New 'Kill The Messenger' Clip
Since he rose to stardom with 2008’s “The Hurt Locker,” Jeremy Renner has proven a reliable and prolific leading man. And not long after “The Hurt Locker,” Renner landed in a handful of lucrative franchises. First came “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” followed quickly by “The Avengers,” and then in “The Bourne Legacy,” a franchise he took over from Matt Damon and in which he portrayed Agent Aaron Cross. However, it seems Damon is poised to reclaim his starring role in the next Bourne film, which is slated for 2016. Renner is surprisingly excited about the notion, viewing Damon’s return not as a threat but as an opportunity to bring Cross and Bourne together on screen. "I think it really opens up the world and it keeps Bourne’s character active," Renner told HuffPost Entertainment. "I think Cross’ character is already going to continue to be active, [and] I think it will...

The Bourne Franchise Is Setting Itself Up For A Huge Event Film
Jeremy Renner.s a busy dude. When he isn.t apprehending Ultron as a member of Team Avengers, he.s acting away in Oscar-pedigreed dramas like American Hustle or the upcoming Kill the Messenger. He also tried to put the Bourne franchise on his back once Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass walked away. Now that they are coming back (allegedly), where does that leave Renner and his #chems? In a recent interview with HuffPo, Jeremy Renner made it clear that, in his mind, the return of Matt Damon.s Jason Bourne doesn.t spell the end for his secret agent, Aaron Cross. In fact, Renner said: I think it really opens up the world and it keeps Bourne.s character active. I think Cross. character is already going to continue to be active. I think it will take creatives to bring them together, which is what I think is ultimately...

Jeremy Renner talks Matt Damon's return to Bourne and a possible crossover
A few weeks ago we learned that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are reuniting for another Bourne movie; and when the confetti cleared many wondered what would come of the other Bourne franchise starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. Now Renner has opened up on what he thinks about Damon’s return and what might happen with the franchise. It’s important to note that the sequel to The Bourne Legacy was never shelved, just postponed, as Damon and Greengrass’s next...

Jeremy Renner thinks a potential Matt Damon return to 'Bourne' would be 'Tremendous'
Matt Damon
It was just a few weeks ago that we learned that Matt Damon would, seemingly, be heading back to the Bourne franchise for another go-round with director Paul Greengrass. That in turn means the likely pushing back of a "Bourne Legacy" sequel featuring Jeremy Renner's spinoff character, Aaron Cross. Now, we are getting Renner's thoughts on the whole issue. "The Avengers" star recently talked to HuffPost Entertainment about his upcoming movie "Kill the Messenger," and they asked him about the potential Bourne changes and the possibility of Renner's Cross, appearing opposite Damon's Jason Bourne. Renner appears to be very much for it all. Renner is quoted saying, "I think Cross’ character is already going to continue to be active." He adds, "I think it will take creatives to bring them together, which is what I think is ultimately the plan." Later in the article, on the subject of the potential team-up,...

Renner Talks 'Avengers 2', 'M:i-5' & Says New 'Bourne' Could Follow Marvel Model
I don't know about you all, but I hadn't really noticed until I wrote the headline above that Jeremy Renner has himself firmly entrenched in not one, not two, but three major franchises. I'd have thought one would be enough for most actors, but apparently, the more the better. Speaking of more (or in the case below, "bigger") being better, Renner had this to say about Avengers: Age of Ultron while making press rounds for his newest film Kill the Messenger (which is by all accounts decidedly not big): I think everything that worked in the first Avengers is exponentially going to be better in this one. I think the comedic relief, I think the action, is going to be bigger. But wait, there's more (and following the logic above, that makes it better). When it comes to Mission: Impossible 5, which Renner is shooting right now alongside Tom Cruise,...

Jeremy Renner On ‘Avengers 2′, ‘Mission: Impossible 5′ & ‘Bourne 5′
Though Jeremy Renner isn’t vying for a solo Hawkeye movie, the actor will reprise his role as the archer in next summer’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron - and possibly the following year in Captain America 3. In addition to his Marvel superhero role, Renner is set to star in the soon-to-be released dramatic thriller Kill the Messenger, as well as Mission Impossible 5 and a sequel to The Bourne Legacy that will continue the story of his character, Aaron Cross.

While on a press tour for Kill the Messenger, Renner talked about the progress of Mission Impossible 5, his next installment in the Bourne franchise, and more about what to ...

Renner Drops A 'Captain America 3' Hint
After existing under the radar for most of his career, Jeremy Renner became quite a hot commodity in Hollywood in recent years. Following his breakout role in Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker in 2008, then his subsequently well-received supporting role in Ben Affleck's big 2010 Oscar-winning movie The Town, Renner found himself on a lot of short lists. He became "the guy that's going to inherit the Mission: Impossible franchise from Tom Cruise," he- similarly- became "the guy that's going to take over as the focal point for a new series of Bourne films," and then he signed on to be part of Marvel's cinematic universe as Hawkeye. After griping, publicly, about wanting to play the character he "signed up for," following a very marginalized role in The Avengers, many wondered if the actor would perhaps like to see Hawkeye take center stage at some point.

Not so fast, says Renner.

Jeremy Renner Reveals He's Married To Sonni Pacheco
Jeremy Renner, who is fiercely protective of his private life, finally confirmed that he and his longtime girlfriend Sonni Pacheco are married.

Jeremy Renner Is Married To Sonnu Pacheco

Renner, 43, revealed that Pacheco is indeed his wife during a recent interview with Capitol File. "I have tried to protect my family's privacy, my wife's privacy. I don't need her to get hammered with my life," says Renner, who wore a wedding band to a screening of Kill the Messenger. "Privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered."

Renner and Pacheco welcomed a daughter, Ava, in March 2013. The two-time Oscar nominee said that having a child in his 40s, after he'd achieved a certain amount of success in Hollywood, worked out well for him. "It's the best thing I have ever done – doing it later on in life. By then I achieved a...

Two "Bourne" Films Still Being Developed
Earlier this week came the news that Universal Pictures is in talks to re-team Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for a new Jason Bourne movie, their return to the series after a seven year absence.

It was said this film would take precedence over the second Jeremy Renner-led, Justin Lin-directed 'Bourne' film (following "The Bourne Legacy") which would be pushed back. The studio has yet to comment on the reports.

Now Frank Marshall, the producer of all the films in the series, tells THR that because no deals have been finalized they are still developing both simultaneously:

"We're on two tracks. And if this one [with Damon and Greengrass] comes together, great, but they're still just talking... [Bourne Legacy 2] movie is moving forward. It's still in development. We're working to get a script as soon as possible."

What's also unknown at this point is if Paul Greengrass will write the script for the next Bourne,...

Paul Greengrass at an event for Jason Bourne (2016)
Matt Damon Headed Back To Play Jason Bourne Yet Again
Paul Greengrass at an event for Jason Bourne (2016)
Damon and director Paul Greengrass are making deals with Universal to team up for a new Bourne film.

As the old saying goes, you can't keep a good government assassin down. Jason Bourne – and not Jeremy Renner's semi-confusing Jason Bourne analog – is coming back as Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are currently making a deal with Universal to reunite for a third time, according to Deadline.

This will be the fourth time Damon has stepped into the shoes of the titular trained killer, first playing him in 2002 in The Bourne Identity. Identity was directed by Doug Liman who handed the series' reigns over to Greengrass in 2004 for The Bourne Supremacy.

It was Greengrass who gave the franchise its iconic handheld 'shaky cam' look, which he used to acclaimed effect in the 2007 installment The Bourne Ultimatum, which was the last film Damon appeared in as the eponymous hero.

Greengrass and Damon Returning for New 'Bourne' Film
Apparently Universal is putting the planned sequel to The Bourne Legacy, which saw Jeremy Renner step in for Matt Damon in an attempt to keep the franchise alive, on the backburner as the studio has begun negotiations with Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Matt Damon to return for what would be Damon's fourth film in the franchise and Greengrass' third. The report comes from Deadline, which says Universal intends to make the reteam the next Bourne, stepping in front of the spinoff sequel, which was previously assumed to be occupying a July 16, 2016 release date. It sounds as if that date will now go to this Greengrass and Damon sequel while a new Renner film, with Justin Lin directing, is still assumed to be in the works. There's no word on how the story will play out, but I would expect there to be some sort of...

Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass To Return For Fifth Bourne Movie
When the credits rolled on The Bourne Ultimatum, we were all under the impression that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon had told their story of super spy Jason Bourne, citing that there was no where to go creatively with the character now that his story was told. When Jeremy Renner joined The Bourne Legacy as a new genetically altered government pawn, it hammered home that the Bourne franchise was moving forward in a new direction. Now it seems that that direction may include a slight u-turn, with the news that Greengrass and Damon have found their story and that Jason Bourne is indeed returning. Deadline are reporting that Universal are eyeing the July 16th 2016 release slot they had assigned to an untitled Bourne movie, which we can assume was the continuing adventures of Renner's Aaron Cross with Justin Lin at the helm, that will play host to the Damon and Greengrass reunion.

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass returning for Bourne 5
Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are returning to the world of Jason Bourne - and The Bourne Legacy sequel is still active, too...

Well, here's a turn up. For the last year or two, both director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon have appeared adamant that their Jason Bourne days were over. In particular, Greengrass was clear that, following his work on The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, that he'd taken the Jason Bourne story as far as he could.

Damon refused to return to the role if Greengrass wasn't directing, which ultimately led to Jeremy Renner being introduced for The Bourne Legacy, a film that talked about the character of Jason Bourne incessantly. The Bourne Legacy had problems, but when Universal then announced a release date of July 16th 2016 for Bourne 5, the assumption was it would pick up Aaron Cross' story, the character played by Renner.

It...

Matt Damon Is Returning to the Bourne Franchise
Matt Damon
Get ready for more shaky-cam adventures: Deadline reports that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, who helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will reunite for another film in the Jason Bourne franchise. While both have said they would not be returning to the series — with Greengrass saying there was no place for the character to go now that he has regained his memory — it looks like they’ve changed their minds. According to sources, the reteam would be the next film to go into production with an intended release date of July 16, 2016, meaning it will move ahead of the spinoff sequel (to 2012’s The Bourne Legacy) starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross and directed by Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin. Now all they need to do is come up with a name for it. So ... Bourne Again?...

Matt Damon Returning for ‘Bourne 5′; Paul Greengrass to Direct
The rumor that Matt Damon will play Jason Bourne yet again – with The Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum‘s Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass calling the shots – is one that has simply refused to die over the past year, despite staunch denials from such people as Bourne franchise producer Frank Marshall. Cut to the present and we’re not getting reports from multiple sources that Universal has, in fact, worked out a deal for a Damon/Greengrass/Bourne reunion.

There’s long been speculation that the developing Bourne Legacy sequel - which has Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 3-6) attached to direct – could team up Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross and Damon’s Bourne on a new adventure, but it doesn’t sound ...

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass might be re-teaming for another 'Bourne'
Matt Damon
Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are reportedly returning to Bourne, according to Deadline.

The re-team would mark the pair’s third collaboration in The Bourne Identity series, and Damon’s fourth Bourne film overall. The pair are reportedly in early talks at Universal.

Universal declined to comment. A rep for Damon did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

If the re-team pans out, it will likely be the next Bourne film to go into production in order to fill the July 16, 2016 release date that the studio selected for an untitled Bourne film. In effect, it will presumably...

Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass in Talks for More Bourne
It looks like actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are actually going to team back up to bring us a new Jason Bourne film. I honestly never thought this would happen as both Damon and Greengrass have had a firm stance on not returning to the action franchise after making The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Greengrass kept saying no and Damon would say he wouldn't do it unless Greengrass was on board. Well, look at how all that's turning out.

The news comes from Variety who says the two are currently in early talks to return. Hopefully it all falls into place because I would love to see a new Bourne film with these two talents involved with it again. I didn't really care for the last movie made, which centered on a character named Aaron Cross played by Jeremy Renner.

Universal is already in development on...

Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass Reportedly Back For More Bourne
Matt Damon
In a twist worthy of the agent himself, it appears that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are making deals for a return to the Bourne franchise. According to Deadline, the pair is likely to slot in a Jason Bourne-focused fifth entry to the series in place of the developing sequel to the Jeremy Renner/Aaron Cross story. It’s something of a shocker, as both Damon and Greengrass have said on the record that they had no plans to revisit a story they felt they had already told. But then, they have both also mooted a potential return if the right script could be written and they could work together again, and it appears that that’s the case now.Universal, which has yet to officially confirm anything, is apparently so enthused by the idea of the pair returning that it wants them to have the film ready for...

Big 'Bourne' News: Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are returning for another sequel
Matt Damon
Surprise! Jason Bourne is heading back to the big screen. Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are set to collaborate on a third "Bourne" film together, according to Deadline, contradicting previous claims by Greengrass that his involvement with the franchise was through (it's worth noting that Latino Review had the scoop on this story way back in June). The film will reportedly be done in time to make the July 16, 2016 release date previously slotted by Universal for the next untitled "Bourne" film, which was assumed to be the next entry in the "Bourne Legacy" series starring Jeremy Renner. The Justin Lin-directed sequel to that 2012 spinoff - which saw Renner starring as special agent Aaron Cross - is still in development, however, and the studio is said to be interested in continuing on with it even as they re-embark on the original series. “The problem with franchise films is, if you...
