Lee Cronin's The Mummy reboot is all wrapped up, just like its titular monster. The filmmaker has revealed that production has concluded on the hotly anticipated Blumhouse movie.
Cronin shared a picture of his director's chair on Instagram yesterday afternoon with the caption, "All wrapped up." While it's tough to surmise, it looks like the image was taken on the set for The Mummy, specifically the tomb where the titular monster might be found by Jack Reynor and Laia Costa's married couple, who reportedly will run afoul of supernaturally sinister forces throughout the reboot. Production on The Mummy began in Ireland and Spain in late March, meaning that the movie had a three-month shoot.

More actors have been announced for the next Evil Dead movie. Among those set to face off against the Deadites is Hunter Doohan, who wowed Marvel fans earlier this year in Daredevil: Born Again as the villainous Muse.
Deadline was the first to report that Doohan had joined the cast of the new Evil Dead movie alongwith Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent) and Tandi Wright (Pearl). Doohan's casting comes amid rumors that Muse will return for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, despite the scene-stealing serial killer's death in the first season. However, it's not yet clear if Doohan will be back in the role, as it's possible that a different character could take over the serial killer's mantle in the new season.
Character details remain under wraps at this time for all confirmed actors. The three actors join the previously announced Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two) in the new Evil Dead movie,...

Not so groovy news for fans of The Evil Dead. Nearly three years after its release to critical acclaim, Saber Interactive's asymmetrical survival horror title Evil Dead: The Game is being pulled from Steam, Sony, and other digital storefronts with no reason given behind the removal. The developer confirmed the news on Wednesday, thanking supporters and writing, "Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.” Since the axing of sales, Bruce Campbell, who reprized his role as Ash Williams for the game, has reacted to the adaptation's end, writing, "Dead end."

Fede Álvarez's blood-soaked Evil Dead remake will be available to stream for free starting April 1.
Just over 20 years after Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness landed in theaters, Álvarez helped usher in a new era for the iconic horror franchise with his 2013 reboot, Evil Dead. The film, which lands on Tubi next month, tossed aside the more comedic elements of the prior films in favor of a darker and meaner tone but doesn't forget to include tons of blood and gore, which remains a franchise staple. Álvarez's more sinister reboot proved a success as the film earned $97.5 million at the worldwide box office and was generally well-received at the time, having earned a 63% Rotten Tomatoes score.

After the popularity of Evil Dead Rise in 2023, another Evil Dead movie is in the works and there are already a ton of exciting updates about Evil Dead Burn. Debuting in 1981 with the release of The Evil Dead, the legendary horror franchise follows various poor souls as they encounter the Necronomicon, the book of the dead which has the power to summon demon-like deadites that possess the bodies of the living. Though the original film was a gritty masterpiece of terror, the sequels became increasingly silly and deftly mixed black humor with horror.
The original trilogy followed Ash Williams, played by horror icon Bruce Campbell, and was very much carried by the B-movie actor's charisma and wit. However, after the release of 1992's Army of Darkness, the franchise went dormant until 2013's eponymous remake, where the franchise's continuity was somewhat rudderless. Then, Evil Dead Rise took the series in a...

The next Evil Dead film is now officially called Evil Dead Burn, and it’s heading our way in 2026.
The impressive success in cinemas – and on home formats – of last year’s Evil Dead Rise didn’t just resurrect the Evil Dead cinematic franchise, it made a further film a certainty.
And here comes the confirmation of it.
Evil Dead Burn is set to be the next chapter in the saga, and once again we have a new director stepping in to make it. French director Sebastien Vanicek has landed the job, having made his feature directorial debut with the movie Infested. Vanicek has also co-written the script for the new film along with Florent Bernard.
News of the new film was confirmed by the pair on their Instagram accounts, where they posted a picture of the screenplay’s cover. Fittingly, it looked like it’d been typed with a rickety old typewriter.

While it's unclear if the film will take place after the end of Evil Dead Rise, the movie will be expanding on the horror universe with a new story from the two creatives new to the franchise.
Now, Vaniček has taken to Instagram alongside Bernard, where they have shared the cover page for Evil Dead Burn, the next installment in the franchise. His image also comes with a caption, where he confirms the release year as 2026, meaning it will still be over a year until the new movie comes out. However, it does confirm...

In the wake of last year’s box office hit Evil Dead Rise, the franchise is getting set to expand with Two new movies, one of which is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested).
Taking to Instagram this afternoon, Vaniček has announced that his Evil Dead movie is officially titled Evil Dead Burn, and he teases in the photo’s caption that it’ll be unleashed in 2026.
Based on The Evil Dead by Sam Raimi, Evil Dead Burn is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who co-wrote the screenplay with Florent Bernard. Check out the script’s cover page below.
French filmmaker Vaniček is fresh off his feature debut Infested (Vermines), which very much feels like Evil Dead Rise… with spiders. It’s no secret why he landed the gig, to say the least!

Monsters of all kinds have fascinated humanity for millennia, oftentimes as an explanation for some of the world's most confounding ills and sources of fear. From sabertooth tigers painted on cave walls to modern horror movies, humans have memorialized the nightmarish bogeymen that have imprinted themselves on history. Contemporary pop culture is now marked by the latest interpretations of vampires, aliens, werewolves, and demons, all of which have proven impervious to the march of time.
As cinema creeps forward with a revamped interest in the horror genre in the 2020s, it's appropriate to look back on the greatest monster movies of all time. Bruce Campbell, who portrays Ash in the Evil Dead series, has explained how the next two movies in the horror franchise will fall into its larger timeline. Following the success of 2023's Evil Dead Rise, it was announced in February 2024 that an Evil Dead spinoff was in production, with Sbastien Vaniek attached as director and co-writer alongside Florent Bernard. Then, in April 2024, it was revealed a second spinoff would also be entering development, written and directed by Francis Galluppi. The plots for both upcoming entries are under wraps.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Campbell teased how the new Evil Dead movies will fit into the larger timeline, explaining that it's not as planned out as something like George Lucas' Star Wars movies were. The actor teased that the franchise is beyond the original cabin and Ash, hinting at the upcoming movies feeling more like their own independent stories set in the same universe.

Arachnophobes are in for a bit of a rough time, because streaming platforms and cinemas will be positively crawling with spider-based monster movies before you know it. Well, two, anyway. A humanist approach to horror shines through in Infested, which delves into layers of social commentary and fear beyond spiders. Arachnophobia and claustrophobia work hand in hand, creating a thrilling ride filled with terror-inducing elements. Infested not only presents spiders as monsters but also sheds light on a more sinister evil lurking within humanity itself.
One of the most common fears people have is arguably that of spiders, and Infested the title alone is enough to make anyone's skin crawl takes full advantage of this. Indeed, Shudder's newest film deftly maintains throughout its runtime that all-too-familiar anxiety of feeling like something is crawling up your arm, thrumming with a steady paranoia as the characters duck around web-covered corners. In this way, it essentially operates as a great survival movie that skates into creature-feature territory, while also weaving in psychological and body horror elements. That said, Infested's most remarkable trait is how,...

One of my favorite horror films of the year thus far, Infested pits an eclectic group of apartment tenants against rapidly reproducing spiders. As thought-provoking as it is palpably horrifying, Infested has now skittered onto Shudder, and I had the pleasure of catching up with director/co-writer Sébastien Vaniček in a video interview to discuss his new movie, including the spider-centric research that went into the making of the film's realistic effects, the movie's exploration of socioeconomic divisions, as well as the excellent performances from the cast, and Sébastien also shared his excitement for his upcoming Evil Dead movie!

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a tried and true, serious-in-tone creature feature, or at least one in which the creature in question is a real-world animal and not a fictitious monster. This sub-genre often finds its roots planted firmly in horror comedy or, intentionally or not, camp. So it’s refreshing that Infested (formerly titled Vermin), Sébastien Vaniček‘s feature directorial debut, takes a deathly serious approach to the material. There’s still plenty of fun to be had with these spiders, but there’s nothing funny about them.
30-year-old Kaleb (Théo Christine) is a small-time grifter with a passion for small critters. His hopes of opening a reptile zoo with his friend Jordy (Finnegan Oldfield) were squashed years ago when an argument drove the two friends apart. Kaleb makes up for his lost dream by lining the walls of his room with vivariums filled with creepy-crawlies.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sting was pitting an oversized spider against the inhabitants of an NYC apartment building. Now we have Infested, which pits the inhabitants of a French housing project against a horde of arachnids. Arachnids that the prologue implies are both deadly and in demand.
One of the people that demand comes from is Kaleb. He’s a young man trying to make a living hustling sneakers and whatever else he can make a quick profit from. It’s not exactly a thriving business, and he’s stuck living with his sister Manon in the rundown apartment they inherited from their mother. Adding to his unhappiness is a falling out with his long time friend Jordy.

In an odd quirk of distribution timing, this month has seen the arrival of no less than two imported, semi-comedic thrillers featuring decrepit apartment building invaded by giant spiders. Already playing U.S. theaters is the Australian “Sting,” which is fun, if formulaic. In a whole other class, however, is French “Infested,” a first feature by director Sebastien Vanicek following several impressive shorts. An instant minor genre classic, it is fun and then some — a conceptually unremarkable but resourceful, energetic, stylish and good-humored creature feature with above-average human character interest.
That achievement has been duly noted: Intended as a streaming premiere, “Vermines” (the original title) pleased its producer such that he apparently insisted on a home-turf theatrical release, despite the long delay that imposes on its launch in other formats under French law. It’s seen big-screen release in numerous nations since late last year, though in the U.S.

For movies about killer spiders, the things that are generally of primary concern are the size and the volume of the spiders. With that in mind, connoisseurs of this horror subgenre should be pleased to find that Sébastien Vaniček’s feature-length debut, Infested, delivers on both of those fronts. While the spiders here, a highly poisonous and aggressive desert species, may initially emerge at a deceptively normal size, they gradually balloon to larger proportions as they overwhelm an apartment block in a French banlieue. They’re also a rapidly reproducing breed, to the point where their offspring and their offspring’s offspring are eventually scampering all over the building’s walls, ceilings, air ducts, and residents.

A new Evil Dead movie is currently in the works, but the project, described as a "spinoff," is still shrouded in mystery. It remains unclear how the new film might connect to the previous movies and TV series, and director Sébastien Vaniček has suggested that all of those details are still being sorted out.
Per Screen Rant, Vaniček shared an update on the screenplay that the filmmaker is co-writing with Florent Bernard. He confirmed that the story is still in its early stages, and while there are a lot of ideas being brought to the table, nothing is set in stone at this time. He compared the script's current status to a sandbox, suggesting there's a lot for him to work with creatively but nothing has been established just yet.

Director Sébastien Vaniek has a cautious response about his new Evil Dead movie connecting to past installments. The most recent movie installments have taken more standalone approaches to the franchise, allowing for fresh stories and characters to shine and expand the universe. Vaniek's best path may be to follow in Evil Dead Rise's footsteps and avoid any direct connections to the previous movies, instead offering subtle Easter eggs and nods to hint at other such characters as Bruce Campbell's Ash.
With the past two movies taking a separate approach to keeping the franchise alive, director Sébastien Vaniček is careful about addressing whether the new Evil Dead movie will connect to previous installments. The French filmmaker, who recently made his feature directorial debut with the spider-focused horror movie Infested (titled Vermins in France), was announced as the next helmer of the Sam Raimi franchise in February 2024, nearly a year after Rise broke multiple records.

Spiders can be scary, but it’s our reaction to them that’s traumatic.
The jolt of panic you feel when a tickle just hits wrong is a hard-wired evolutionary response that’s been explored in horror for decades. Humans developed the “Holy shit, get it off me!” feeling as a protection against the pests we can’t always see. And while hobbyists claim arachnids are misunderstood — playing a critical role opposite insects — the bone-deep distaste we have for spiders has cast as antagonists since the dawn of film. From “Tarantula!” and “Arachnophobia” to “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” if something is on eight legs and in a movie, you know what comes next.

In the build-up to the release of Evil Dead Rise (read our review right Here) last year, Evil Dead franchise rights holders Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert let it be known that they were already looking forward to producing more entries in the series, with Campbell revealing they were hoping to make a new sequel / spin-off every two or three years. It looks like they’re on track to do just that, as earlier this week it was announced that Sébastien Vaniček – who just made his feature directorial debut on the French horror film Vermin, a.k.a. Infested – has been hired to direct the next Evil Dead movie. Since Vermin happens to be nominated in two categories at this year’s César Awards, the website Konbini was able to catch up with Vaniček at a nominees’ dinner, and while talking with him they learned that he has...

Following a fully online 2021 event, a hybrid 2022 and last year’s 2023 comeback edition that saw most European distributors still struggling to stay afloat in a barely post-pandemic world, this year’s Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in Paris was a “typical” market. And in 2024, typical is great.
“We haven’t had a typical market in four years. Everyone was back,” enthused Gilles Renouard, head of cinema for Rendez-Vous organiser Unifrance.
“Buyers are definitely more future-oriented,” he continued. “Last year, they were scared to buy films for theatrical release, but now they are confident in films that can work in their territories...

In his review out of Fantastic Fest last year, Bloody Disgusting’s Trace Thurman raved that Infested (aka Vermines) is “one of the best spider attack movies in years,” noting in his 4-star review that the creature feature uses practical spiders – Real Spiders – as much as possible. The film has been acquired for U.S. release by Shudder, but we don’t yet have a date.
In the meantime, a brand new French teaser trailer for Infested has arrived this week, and trust us when we say it’s as creepy crawly as you’re probably afraid this one is going to be.
Sébastien Vaniček directed the upcoming Infested, which is set in the French projects.
In the film, “An underprivileged suburb has been thrown into chaos following an invasion of venomous spiders. Ordered to be placed in quarantine, the project sees inhabitants living on lockdown alongside terrifying spiders that are becoming bigger and bigger.

Snakes ‘n spiders: the two cornerstone big daddies of zoophobic horror. Sure, sharks are classic and rats have had their cinematic moments, but where would the genre be without eight-legged freaks and their slithering, limbless reptile brethren? People tend to fall into two categories – arachnophobic and ophidiophobic – but even if snakes give you the willies, director Sébastien Vaniček’s debut feature will leave you yearning for their cold-blooded embrace after you meet his army of creepy-crawly web-spinners.
Kaleb (Théo Christine) makes ends meet selling sneakers to the denizens of his low-income apartment block. A lover of reptiles, amphibians, and insects, Kaleb can’t resist when he comes across a mysterious spider for sale in a friend’s shop. After taking his new little friend home and placing her in a shoe box, the spider almost immediately escapes and quickly begins laying eggs in the walls and air vents of the building.
