- Was raised in the south (Texas and Georgia) until 6 years old. Her family moved up north where her elementary school teacher deemed her southern drawl inappropriate. Laura was immediately sent to a speech therapist. Moving back down south in 1996, the first question asked by a co-worker was, "Are you from the Chicago area? I detect an accent." Go figure.
- Is a Native Texan.
- Has been entitled "Lady Laura Koons" by Proprietor/Laird Charles Dixon-Spain of Dunans Castle in Argyll, Scotland as part of a charitable restoration project to save the castle and bridge.
- Is a relative of James Canning, an actor best known for playing a heroic Marine (Alvin Foster) in the 1978 feature film "The Boys in Company C" Directed by Sidney J. Furie; and for playing (Dick Baxter) in the 1980 feature film "The Fog" Directed by John Carpenter.
