Name Sarune derives from the Lithuanian word "sarus > sariuoti", meaning "quick, to go rapidly, to scurry". This name was popularized by Vincas Kreve-Mickevicius, who wrote a short story about legendary knight of Merkine named Sarunas. The feast day is traditionally celebrated on February 19.
