Netflix Reveals First Photos from ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5
Image
Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks will end with its fifth season, which is set to come out in 2026. Filming has already started in Charleston, South Carolina, and fans have gotten their first peek at what’s coming.

The final season will bring some changes. Two actors, Cullen Moss and J. Anthony Crane, are now part of the main cast. Moss has been around since the beginning as Sheriff Shoupe. Crane, who appeared in Season 4 as Chandler Groff, JJ’s father, is also getting a bigger role. These casting changes suggest that both characters will be more important this season.

Netflix also shared two new photos from the set. The images show the remaining Pogues, but there’s a noticeable change, JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, is missing. He died at the end of Season 4, and it looks like Drew Starkey’s character, Rafe, has stepped into his place in the group.

Netflix reveals Outer Banks season 5 filming start and release window
Image
Oh my goodness! Just look at that Outer Banks season 5 image above. Our favorite cast is posing in the new pic to commemorate the great news that filming for the fifth and final season has officially begun. The cameras are back up and rolling in Charleston, South Carolina to bring us the next chapter of this adventurous tale. Plus, there's more!

Netflix has also finally revealed that the final season of the thrilling teen drama is coming in 2026. This was pretty much a given, with a 2025 release basically not made possible since filming hadn't started yet. Production was supposed to start a little sooner back in May, but was delayed for some reason. Either way, now it has begun, and we can look forward to the drama on our screens next year. Though all of this news is so bittersweet without one important cast member.

I'm still not over the fact that JJ,...

That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” reads the statement. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure,...

Outer Banks season 5 is starting filming very soon, but things are going to look a lot different on set for the final season without Rudy Pankow, who left the series after four seasons. Outer Banks season 5 will be the first season without JJ Maybank as a key character.

After burying JJ in Morocco, John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Kiara (Madison Bailey), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) are ready to get revenge.

Who Chandler Groff Really Is In Outer Banks: Backstory, Criminal History & Blue Crown Plans Explained
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4, part 2.

It wouldn't be a season of Outer Banks without a memorable and diabolical villain, and Chandler Groff might be the show's worst antagonist yet. Netflix's action-adventure mystery teen drama revolves around the Pogues John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo who often (aka all the time) find themselves in trouble as they have become expert treasure hunters over the years. As a result, the Outer Banks characters have encountered many villains, and a decent number of them happen to be their parents.

Netflix renewed Outer Banks for a fifth and final season just ahead of the season 4, part 2 premiere in November 2024. J. Anthony Crane is expected to reprise his role as Chandler Groff in the show's last episodes.

During Outer Banks season 4, part 1's ending, JJ learned that Luke Maybank wasn't his biological father. Groff and...

‘Outer Banks’ Eyes Potential Spinoffs As Netflix Series Heads Into Final Season
Image
Exclusive: Netflix’s hit action-adventure YA series Outer Banks is set to end with its upcoming fifth season. But that may not be the end of the Pogues.

‘Outer Banks’ Season 4 Recap: What to Remember Before Part 2
Image
The Pogues will be back in action Thursday afternoon as Part 2 of “Outer Banks” Season 4 premieres on Netflix, but almost a month after the first five episodes were released, you may need a refresher on what they have been up to.

The treasure-hunting crew of misfits are all scattered at the end of Part 1, with several storylines to keep track of as you return for the second batch of episodes. JJ just found out his dad may not be who he thought he was. Sarah and Pope are stuck in a crypt with rats and rising water levels. And the Pogues still haven’t solved the mystery of Blackbeard’s Blue Crown.

While there were several action-packed scenes in Part 1, the cast and crew have teased that the Season 4 finale sequence is the greatest in the series’ history. The Pogues are still set on their initial mission from Wes Genrette,...

Outer Banks: Pogues & Kooks Explained
Image
A prevalent theme of Netflix's Outer Banks is the class war between the Pogues and the Kooks, which are the residents' nicknames for the working class and the wealthy citizens, respectively. The dynamics between the Kooks and Pogues are vital to the plot and characters of Outer Banks. Netflix's teen series follows the lives of John B and his friends in North Carolina's Outer Banks, who get into a world of trouble when searching for lost treasure. The island's class warfare, particularly between the Cameron family and John B, complicates the Pogues' hunt for the Royal Merchant's gold in season 1, which continues as the stakes get higher in Outer Banks season 2.

In the world of Outer Banks, characters belong to one of two groups: the Pogues or the Kooks. As John B describes it, residents of Outer Banks either have two jobs (Pogues) or two houses (Kooks). John B...

The deputies find JJ and the Pogues, but they steal the boat and make a plan to travel to Morocco. They just need to steal a bigger boat.

Somehow, as they cruise through the marina to steal the boat, Rafe (Drew Starkey) sees the Pogues and overhears them, somehow, talking about going to Morrocco. As the Pogues fail to steal a boat, Rafe makes a big move, Country Club! He...

Familiar faces returned to Poguelandia on Saturday. As the cast and crew of “Outer Banks” celebrated the premiere of Season 4 Part 2 at a fan event in Santa Monica, some of the stars also teased future projects.

Image
Fans of the action-adventure series Outer Banks have been greeted with some good and bad news ahead of Part 2 of the series' fourth season. The good news is that the show has been renewed for a fifth season, but the bad news for all the Pogues out there is that Season 5 will be its last.

Per an announcement via Netflix, the co-creators and executive producers of Outer Banks, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, revealed the news in a "Dispatch to all Pogues," a reference to what John B (Chase Stokes) and his friends call themselves on the series to identify them as residents of the "Cut," where they reveal that they always had a five-season plan for the show and after seeing a photo in 2017 of teenagers on a beach during a power outage that helped them come up with the idea for the global phenomenon. The creators said,...

There’s good news and bad news for Outer Banks fans. First, the good news. Outer Banks has officially been renewed for season five. The bad news? The fifth season will be the show’s final season.

Series co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke penned a note to fans, explaining the decision:

“Dispatch to all Pogues:

Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.

At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five season story,...

‘Outer Banks’ Co-Creators Tout “Feature Length” Season 4 Finale As Netflix Series’ “Best, Most Powerful Episode”
Image
After that cliffhanger Episode 5 ending, Netflix’s hit action-adventure series Outer Banks is returning for the remainder of Season 4 on Nov. 7. It will culminate in a supersized finale that promises to pack an emotional punch, series co-creators/executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke revealed in a letter to fans tied to Outer Banks‘ renewal for fifth and final season.

“The fourth season was our longest and hardest – but most rewarding – to produce,” the trio said of the current season, whose production was interrupted by the SAG-AFTRA strike. “The season ends with a feature-length episode, which we think is our best, most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.”

Outer Banks‘ episodes on average are between 40 min and 60 min in length. Before Season 4, the show had crossed the 1 hr mark twice, with the Season 2 (1hr 1 min) and Season 3 (1hr 19 min) finales. Season 4 — the first time...

Fiona Palomo Teases a "Thrilling Arc" for Sophia and Rafe in 'Outer Banks' Season 4 Part 2
Image
With less than a week left until the return of Outer Banks and the conclusion of Season 4, we have a lot of questions. One of them is pondering if Rafe (Drew Starkey) will face repercussions for going all-in with Hollis (Brianna Brown)? After backing out originally from going into business with her, he's advised by his girlfriend Sophia (Fiona Palomo) to invest. But what he doesn't know is that Sophia is working with Hollis, and the deal is, in fact, a bit of a con. Of all the different plots Outer Banks has thrown at us over the years, giving Rafe a romantic interest is definitely one of the big ones. We first met Sophia back in Season 3, just in passing, when she hooked up with Rafe at a house party, but as of Season 4, she's become a full fixture in his life. But unlike his Kook friends, like the...

How Old John B & The Pogues Are In Outer Banks Season 4 (& How Their Actors' Ages Compare)
Image
Outer Banks revolves around a group of Pogues living in the Outer Banks, led by John B, and although they're young in the show, all the actors who play the main characters are older than their fictional counterparts in season 4. Some stars were around the same age as their characters when Outer Banks first premiered in April 2020. However, the timeline in the Netflix action-adventure mystery teen drama doesn't adhere to the one in real life. For example, even though season 2 dropped one year after season 1, only days passed by in the world of Outer Banks.

Production on Outer Banks season 4 started in June 2023 and didn't wrap until June 2024 due to work stoppages related to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

As a result, most of the Outer Banks cast are several years older than their characters. The 18-month time jump at the end of the season 3 finale certainly helped some stars get...

Larissa Genrette's Death, Backstory & Real Son In Outer Banks Season 4 Explained
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4, part 1.

Outer Banks season 4, part 1 introduces many new characters, like Larissa Genrette, who is never physically seen (outside of her portrait) but still significantly impacts the story. Season 4 jumps ahead 18 months after the events of the Outer Banks season 3 finale, aka when the Pogues found El Dorado. The six teens John B, Sarah, Pope, Kiara, JJ, and Cleo use their newfound fortune to build a business and a home for themselves. Unfortunately, their happiness (and riches) doesn't last forever, and they return to treasure hunting to make ends meet, which is where the Genrettes come in.

As teased during the flashforward in the Outer Banks season 3 finale, a man named Wes Genrette approaches the Pogues with a proposition to find Blackbeard's treasure. They ultimately take the old man up on his offer to acquire the amulet in exchange for $50,000. However,...

Who Hollis Robinson Is In Outer Banks Season 4 & Why She Wants Rafe Cameron On The Goat Island Deal
Image
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 4, part 1.

Hollis Robinson makes her debut in Outer Banks season 4, part 1, and her real estate plans are, as many expected, nefarious and calculated. The Netflix action-adventure mystery teen drama TV series follows a group of treasure-hunting teens, and in season 4, they're searching for Blackbeard's booty. However, in the midst of their dangerous adventures, Hollis is securing a deal with Rafe Cameron regarding the ownership of the allegedly haunted Goat Island. While it's not immediately clear how Hollis' story ties into the Pogues' Outer Banks season 4 narrative, part 1's ending begins to pull them closer together.

Netflix split Outer Banks season 4 into two parts, each including five episodes, with part 1 releasing on October 10, 2024, and part 2 dropping one month later, on November 7.

The cast of Outer Banks expands in season 4 with the addition of Brown as Hollis along with many others,...

‘Outer Banks’ Stars Tease What’s Ahead in Season 4: “Explosions, Craziness, Pogue Activity”
Image
[This story includes major spoilers from Outer Banks season four, part one.]

The first half of Outer Banks season four ended with several cliffhangers for the Pogues, many of which should be resolved, to some degree, in the second half of the season.

Over on Kildare Island, Rudy Pankow’s JJ probably gets the biggest bomb dropped on him when he learns that he’s not the son of his alcoholic and abusive father, Luke (Gary Weeks). His birth parents are actually the late Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) — making him the kind of person he hates, a Kook, and the grandson of Wes Genrette (David Jansen).

“It plays out in a series of outbursts,” Pankow tells The Hollywood Reporter of how this news will land with perhaps the Pogue-iest of the Pogues when the show returns Nov. 7 with the final episodes. “I think it’s an identity crisis in Part Two.”

He continued,...

Popular Netflix Series Returns With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score for Season 4
Image
After less than a week since making its return, the first half of Netflixs Outer Banks Season 4 has garnered positive reviews from critics. Prior to its Season 4 premiere, fans had to wait for over a year, after the coming-of-age series had concluded its 10-episode run last February.

Per review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the latest installment of Outer Banks has officially received a perfect Tomatometer score, based on five reviews. As Liz Kocan of Decider said, "Season 4 is charging ahead with a solid new adventure while leaning into the cast of characters these actors have honed and developed over the past four years."
