There are plenty of great horror and thriller K-dramas, yet some of them managed to add humor and even romance into their story regardless of how dark they were. The best K-dramas are known for their intense plots, somewhat awkward humor, and quirky plot lines. However, many K-dramas are equally entertaining as they are complex and full of depth.
Recent K-dramas with darker themes have performed well in South Korea as well as across the world thanks to streaming. The biggest example is Squid Game, which became Netflix's most-watched show of all time and has yet to be topped. Other recent examples include Sweet Home and Gyeongseong Creature. However, whereas there weren't many laughs in Squid Game season 1, other dark K-dramas found room for humor.

Three years after Lucifer closed the gates of Hell on its six-season run in 2021, supernatural justice fans are in for a treat with the demon-versus-mortal crime K-Drama The Judge from Hell. When the fierce demon judge Justitia (Oh Na-ra) wrongfully sends a human to eternal damnation, she is immediately exiled from Hell and sent to Earth for her punishment. To atone for her sin (no pun intended), this flawed demon judge must serve in the human realm for a year, acting as a courtroom judge and, most importantly, hunt down ten merciless murderers who truly deserve Hells wrath. Despite coming from opposite ends of the Earth, Justitia and Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) bring new meaning to the phrase devilish justice, each raising Hells fire to Earths corrupted legal system.
