Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 16 Review: The Most Uncomfortable Story
Image
Quick LinksChicago Med Reveals John Frost's Big Personal SecretChicago Med Season 10, Episode 16 Is Stolen by Its Guest StarsChicago Med Finds More of a Use for Goodwin and Lenox

The following contains major spoilers from Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 16, "Poster Child," which debuted Wednesday, March 26 on NBC. It also contains discussion of sexual content.

Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 16, "Poster Child" is a hard episode to get one's brain around. On one hand, the NBC show takes a plot that could be cringe-worthy and makes it so much stronger. On the other, it contains the most cringe-worthy subplot in the entire season -- possibly one of the most awkward in series history. It's a tale of two extremes.

"Poster Child" does give Sharon Goodwin more to do, as a patient whom she treated 22 years ago returns to the hospital. But elsewhere, Dr. John Frost is involved in two controversial storylines. One...

Jake Needs To Give Rick a Chance on 'Fire Country'
Image
Fire Country Season 3 kicked off with an explosive season premiere, with Edgewater facing a devastating helicopter crash. The helicopter flying a banner over the wedding of Diego Moreno (Rafael de la Fuente) and Gabriela Perez (Stephanie Arcila) experienced mechanical failure, creating swaths of damage around the town before crashing into the forest. It hits the bar and grill where Jake Crawford (Jordan Calloway), Genevieve Maisonette (Alix West Lefler), and Rick Stenger (Adam Aalderks) are eating, trapping Rick, Gen, and other bystanders under some dangerous debris. The situation proves that Rick Stengler is not the bad guy many expected him to be following his first appearance in the Season 2 finale, "I Do." Considering that Rick is likely Genevieve's biological father, perhaps it's time for Jake to give Rick a chance to prove himself.

‘Fire Country’ Boss Breaks Down Season 3 Premiere: What’s Next for Bode & Gabriela?
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Fire Country Season 3 premiere “What the Bride Said.”] Considering how Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) is at her own wedding (she kept looking at her ex instead of the groom), it’s probably a good thing a helicopter crash interrupts it on Fire Country! Gabriela has yet to say “I do” to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente) when everyone must leap into action to help the injured, among whom is Genevieve (Alix West Lefler), trapped with her maybe biological father Rick (Adam Aalderks) while Jake (Jordan Calloway) tries to get to them. Manny (Kevin Alejandro) gets a brief reprieve from jail when he’s caught up in the crash and helps out—with Luke (Michael Trucco) speaking up for him—but he’s not exactly happy about what’s going on with his daughter and Bode (Max Thieriot). In fact, he asks Sharon (Diane Farr) to keep the two apart. Uh-oh! But...

‘Fire Country’: Showrunner Tia Napolitano On When Fans Will See A Resolution Between Diego & Gabriela
Image
Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Friday’s season 3 premiere of Fire Country on CBS.

In the episode titled “What the Bride Said,” catastrophe wreaked havoc on the Diego and Gabriela nuptials, but it wasn’t because of anything Bode did after we last saw him leave the church in the season 2 finale.

Instead, a helicopter crashed through the stained glass window and cast a pall on the ceremony, prompting everyone in attendance to spring into action and help the victims. Here, showrunner Tia Napolitano addresses why she decided to delay the will-they-or-won’t-they drama and what we can expect from part 2 of what we’re unofficially dubbing Copter-nado.

Deadline How many different scenarios did you have for the wedding?

Tia Napolitano We talked about a lot of stuff. We really looked at what viewers are familiar with in terms of weddings that didn’t end up happening.

Kelli Giddish Breaks Down Her ‘Svu’ Return: A ‘Really Happy’ Rollins, Her New Partner & More
Image
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘s Thursday, October 24 episode, “Divide and Conquer,” a couple (Emily Jackson and Adam Aalderks) have their NYC dinner party interrupted by a brutal home invasion and assault by masked men. What makes the episode special, however, is the first guest appearance this season by Amanda Rollins (fan-favorite Kelli Giddish) in her new job as a sergeant working for the NYPD’s Intelligence Unit. The unit is quite a change for Rollins, since executive producer David Graziano has explained, that it has cops stationed in lots of countries around the world. She’ll travel, but so far her marriage to Ada Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) seems solid. Rollins believes the crime is likely linked to her investigation into an international ring of thieves, aka “crime tourists,” who fly into large cities, commit several robberies, and leave within 48 hours. As their violence escalates, the pressure is...

‘Fire Country’ Boss Answers Burning Finale Questions & Teases Season 3
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Fire Country Season 2 finale “I Do.”] The good news: The wait shouldn’t be too long to find out what’s next after a couple of cliffhangers to end Fire Country Season 2. Bode (Max Thieriot), after walking out of Gabriela’s (Stephanie Arcila) wedding to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente), turns to his uncle, Luke (Michael Trucco), in hopes he can pull strings to get him back to firefighting Asap. Manny (Kevin Alejandro), with a warrant out for his arrest, evades the law long enough to walk Gabriela down the aisle before surrendering to them. Eve (Jules Latimer), who has been crushing it as Three Rock captain lately, gets a job offer to oversee the whole program but turns it down. And Bode and Jake’s (Jordan Calloway) high school classmate, Rick (Adam Aalderks), returns to Edgewater and reveals he might be Genevieve’s biological father. Below, executive producer Tia Napolitano...

Elsa's Death Makes No Sense In The Menu
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for The Menu.

The sudden death of Hawthorne's maître d'hôtel, Elsa, in The Menu doesn't actually seem to make much sense. Detailing the story of a select group of guests being invited to renowned Chef Julian Slowik's exclusive restaurant, Hawthorne, The Menu finds the strangers traveling to Slowik's remote private island which will be the setting of the fateful dining experience. While Ralph Fiennes is front-and-center as Chef Slowik, a few members of his elite team of staff are also featured, including Jeremy (Adam Aalderks), Katherine (Christina Brucato), and Elsa (Hong Chau), Hawthorne's maître d'hôtel, who guides the guests into the restaurant at the beginning of the film.

The Menu's horror is subtle, but intense, leading to the eventual reveal that Chef Slowik plans to kill everyone, including his guests, all of his line chefs, and the front-of-house staff. While the guests find this out...

What Did The Chef Say To Tyler In The Menu?
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Menu.

This article contains discussion of suicide.

Chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) says something to Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) that becomes a pivotal turning point in The Menu, but exactly what he whispers is left a mystery. Although Chef Slowik is the one who has brought the diners together in order to kill them, Tyler is arguably The Menu's biggest villain. The one guest who knew what was going to happen, Tyler is the most deceitful and selfish of those invited to experience (and die at) Hawthorn, allowing everyone to perish and even bringing a date, just so he can indulge in gourmet luxury to validate himself.

Ultimately, then, what happens to Tyler in The Menu is his own doing, but Chef Slowik does play a part. After revealing Tyler's part in the plan, the chef invites him up to cook a dish only to humiliate him.

The Most Chilling Moments In The Menu, Ranked
Image
Warning: The article below contains major spoilers for "The Menu."

Director Mark Mylod has made a career off of crafting class-conscious comedies that bitingly remind audiences of the absurd lengths people travel to obtain status, wealth, and social clout. "The Menu" serves a similar dish to viewers but with a darker, horrific bent. Although Searchlight Pictures defines the film as a horror comedy, prepare to experience more vengeance than ridiculous boardroom hijinks.

While on the surface — and in the film's opening minutes — the ensemble cast feels like they all own stock in Waystar Royco, harrowing cracks to their sardonic personas emerge soon enough. The terror here isn't learning that these characters, for the most part, are entitled, catty, and impossible to please. What's chilling here is watching the razor-sharp pacing of "The Menu" lead these characters into confessing they've always known who they are and the terrible things they've done:...

Image

Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult pay the price for the culinary experience of a lifetime in their new thriller, "The Menu." The film, produced by Searchlight Pictures, stars Hoult and Taylor-Joy as Tyler and Margot, a young couple who visit a remote island for the opportunity to eat at Hawthorne, an exclusive restaurant headed by celebrity Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes).

What begins as a night of culinary exploration planned by one of the most renowned chefs in the world slowly dissolves into a nightmarish series of mind games intended to give the diners a fully immersive dining experience. "The game is trying to guess what the overarching theme of the entire meal is going to be," Tyler says in the trailer released on Aug. 10. "You won't know till the end." For Tyler, a foodie, the evening is an opportunity to indulge his palate. For Margot, who reluctantly tags along,...

‘Stargirl 1×05: Hourman and Dr. Midnite’ Review
Image
Stars: Brec Bassinger, Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Trae Romano, Christopher Baker, Neil Jackson | Created by Geoff Johns

Nine years ago in Blue Valley, a young boy named Rick (Cameron Gellman) is woken up in the middle of the night by his parents, Rex and Wendi, and told they have to leave and Rick’s uncle, Matt (Adam Aalderks), will be watching him for the foreseeable future. We aren’t told what the emergency is that is causing Rick’s parents to suddenly leave, but it’s severe enough that Rex sends a special package, including his private journal, to Pat Dugan.

Upon arrival, Wendi’s brother Matt isn’t happy that he has to take over as the parent to Rick but Wendi, tells him that he is there only choice and they need him. I guess the $50,000 that Rex and Wendi leaves Matt helps as well.

Anderson (2011)
For those who have been following “Ballers” Season 2, you don’t need to be told the level of baller-dom that’s been achieved over these 10 episodes. But not every day was smooth sailing for these gladiators of the game that is life, as we’ve been privileged enough to observe.

Ricky Jerret (John David Washington) struggled to make perhaps the most important decision of his entire career — picking his next, and perhaps final, deal as a player. Charles (Omar Miller) suffered a devastating blow after being cut by the team, but found new opportunities after getting a job working in the front office with Larry (Dulé Hill). Joe (Rob Corddry) was confronted by the knowledge that he was only seen as secondary to his partner.

All of those issues, of course, are...

Dwayne Johnson in Ballers (2015)
Last Week: ‘Ballers’ Review: The Rock Shows Us In Just One Scene How Hard He Balls

This week, not going to lie, is a tough one. Sure, there was Ricky Jerret’s (John David Washington) big decision, Charles (Omar Miller) stepping up for a whole new line of work and some alpaca hijinks. But some dark stuff went down for our pal Spencer (Dwayne Johnson). So it’s particularly hard to ask, in regard to the episode “Most Guys”…

Let’s start with the good: Spencer’s suit game this week is incredible. Pink and purple plaid blazer, striped shirt, shiny blue shoes, purple paisley tie, hot pink and blue pocket square? Mesmerizing. The epitome of baller-dom. Round of applause to costume designers Robert Mata and Tiffany Hasbourne, who regularly do beautiful work in clothing The Rock’s physique.

Oh, and Spencer also did what he does best — take his...
