Bark (2023)
A man wakes up tied to a tree and left for dead, but someone is watching in Bark.

The single-location psychological thriller releases digitally on June 13 via Dark Sky Films.

Charismatic Nolan Bentley wakes up in the middle of a remote forest, tied to a tree with no recollection of how he got there. With his time relentlessly running out, a mysterious stranger appears and he must finally reckon with the demons of his past and fight to survive to find a way out of his nightmare.

Marc Schölermann (Pathology) directs from a script by Steve Fauquier. Michael Weston (Pathology) and A.J. Buckley (“CSI: NY”) star.

The English-language German production premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2023.

American Black Film Festival 2024 Lineup Includes Vivica A. Fox and Jussie Smollett-Starring Drama (Exclusive)

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has set its lineup of narrative and documentary features for its 28th edition, including Jussie Smollett’s return to acting in “The Lost Holliday,” filmmaker Christine Swanson’s latest drama “Albany Road” and the acclaimed Luther Vandross doc “Never Too Much.”

This year’s festival takes place June 12-16 in Miami Beach, Fla., followed by a virtual segment June 17-24 on ABFF Play. Winners of film festival competition will be announced on June 15, during the “Best of ABFF Awards” hosted by Emmy-nominee Dondré Whitfield.

The 2024 narrative lineup includes “Albany Road,” directed and written by Swanson, starring Renée Elise Goldsberry, Lynn Whitfield and J. Alphonse Nicholson; “The Lost Holliday” directed by, co-written and starring Smollett alongside Vivica A. Bark writer Steve Fauquier and director Marc Schölermann have taken an incredibly simple premise – a man is tied to a tree in the woods, alone, without any idea how he got there – and created a unique, intense, and utterly captivating thriller. Fauquier and Schölermann also delivered a film that’s impossible to describe without giving too much away (which means this is a super short review). The slightest hint at what’s in store could spoil the well-earned shocker of an ending – a final act bound to spark conversations and have a significant portion of the audience cheering.

A two-hander driven by outstanding performances by Michael Weston (Home Before Dark) and A.J. Buckley (Seal Team), Bark makes excellent use of a single location to evoke a wide range of emotional responses. It’s impossible not to place yourself in the tied-up...
