Film debuts in the Just Film youth section of Poff.

UK-based sales agency Film Republic has boarded world sales rights on Sweet Sorrow, the latest film from Serbian director Kosta Djordjevic.

Sweet Sorrow will have its world premiere this Sunday (November 5) in Just Film, the youth-focused section of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Poff).

The film centres on an angsty teenager who takes on organising his grandmother’s funeral, when he realises that doing so could win the affections of his crush.

Pavle Cemerikic, Branka Katic, Denis Muric and Alisa Radakovic lead the cast.

Crime Drama ‘The Hollow,’ Directed by Danis Tanovic and Aida Begic, Rules Drama Series Awards at Sarajevo Festival

“The Hollow” won the Heart of Sarajevo Award for best TV drama series at the Sarajevo Film Festival on Sunday, and also came away with a host of other awards.

The in-competition series came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Slovenia. The winners were decided by a jury of more than 450 film professionals from the region.

“The Hollow” won the best director award for Danis Tanović, best known for directing Oscar winner “No Man’s Land,” and Aida Begić.

Other awards for the series included leading actor for Feđa Štukan, supporting actress for Ida Keškić, supporting actor for Boris Ler, and screenplay for Tanović, Amra Bakšić Čamo, Nikola Kuprešanin and Adnan Lugonić.

‘Mom And Dad Are Playing War 2’ And ‘The Hollow’ Dominate Heart Of Sarajevo TV Awards

The Heart of Sarajevo awards for TV series, the Sarajevo Film Festival’s awards strand for TV shows, unraveled this evening, and they were dominated by two shows, the Serbian comedy Mom and Dad Are Playing War 2 (Tata Se Igraju Rata 2) and the Bosnian drama The Hollow (Kotlina).

Mom and Dad Are Playing War 2 took all six comedy awards during the ceremony. The series was created by the popular Serbian actor Gordan Kičić, who also serves as the lead actor, writer, and producer. The series, produced by Filmkombajn and Rts, follows Veljko, who gets the news his father has died. Upon returning to his family in Belgrade, many home truths are uncovered, and he stays longer than expected.

Speaking with Deadline following the sweep, Kičić said: “It’s a great feeling. I really didn’t believe we’d win all six awards. It’s a success for my production company and my team.

Produced by Milan Todorovic and Marko Jocic, The Rift stars Ken Foree (Dawn Of The Dead), Monte Markham (The Six Million Dollar Man) and Katarina Kas (The Wolf Of Wall Street) as CIA agents sent to explore the aftermath of a Us space craft which has crashed in Serbia. In a derelict building they discover an astronaut who holds the secret to the ill fated mission and is the carrier of a mysterious virus which threatens mankind by bringing the dead back from the grave.

Billed as Serbia’s first ever sci-fi film, The Rift comes from the writing team of Barry Keating and Milan Konjevic, both of whom previously penned Killer Mermaids and Apocalypse of the Dead – which also starred zombie-killing legend Ken Foree.

The 62nd Pula Film Festival wrapped in Croatia on Saturday with its Best Croatian Film of the year award going to Dalibor Matanic’s The High Sun.

The win could have been anticipated as The High Sun is one of the best received Croatian productions in years, winning rave reviews upon its premiere in Cannes in May.

TheHigh Sun won seven prizes at Pula, including the critics award. It won the Grand Golden Arena for Best Festival Film, and the jury said it chose “the film that has the ability to reach out to the viewers with its message through the great articulated narrative structure and the original actors’ performances.”

Serbian film No One’s Child, about a boy raised by wolves, has been named top project at the Les Arcs European Film Festival’s Work-in-Progress screenings.

No One’s Child (Nicije dete) is the first feature of Belgrade writer and director Vuk Rsumovic and is produced by Art & Popcorn’s Miroslav Mogorovic.

It beat nine other projects to the inaugural Digimage Classics Awards, which comprises services valued up to $8,300 (€6,000).

The jury included Films Boutique head of acquisitions Gabor Greiner, Fortissimo Films acquisitions consultant Ellis Driessen and Karel Och, artistic director at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The jury praised the film for “a sincere and convincing presentation” and “for strong screen presence”.

No One’s Child, made on a budget of $1m (€750,000), is currently in post-production with an expected delivery date of April 2014.

Kinorama (Hungary) is co-producing. The project is currently looking for a sales agent.
