The Original Misfits Rip Through 20-Song Set at Coachella
Glenn Danzig in Portlandia (2011)
Horror-punk legends The Original Misfits took the stage at Coachella late Saturday night (April 12th), ripping through a 20-song set at the massive festival in Indio, California.

The band launched into “Death Comes Ripping” to kick off the set, which began with a few technical issues but sorted itself out a few songs in. Frontman Glenn Danzig engaged the crowd throughout, at one point asking if there were any goth girls in the audience before playing “Vampira,” a song about the “original goth girl.”

A circle pit soon broke out, as the Misfits played favorites like “Where Eagles Dare,” “Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?,” “Earth A.D.” and “Skulls.”

Prior to “Horror Business,” Danzig introduced the band, featuring classic members Jerry Only (bass) and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein (guitar) alongside Dave Lombardo (drums) and Acey Slade (guitar).

Danzig and company closed out the main set with the all-time classic “Last Caress,...

Glenn Danzig Faces Backlash Over Apparent Nazi Symbol on Merch Design
Image
Glenn Danzig is facing backlash from fans after selling a poster and T-shirt at his recent L.A. show that contained an apparent Nazi-related “Black Sun” symbol.

Danzig just completed a short tour with his eponymous band, which included a stop on Saturday night (March 29th) at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Fans could purchase a special poster and shirt marking that specific concert, though a few noticed that the design featured an illustrated Danzig standing in front of Nazi-associated iconography, specifically the Black Sun (aka sonnenrad or sunwheel) symbol that has been co-opted by some white supremacist groups.

“Can’t spell Danzig without nazi,” wrote one X/Twitter user who posted an image of the show poster.

Another user re-posted the pic, adding: “What the fuck is this, Glen @RealDanzig? This was designed by the fucking Nazis, so don’t try to hide behind ‘it’s an ancient...

Metal Singer Calls Ozzy Osbourne’s Farewell Tour a ‘Scam’!
Image
Elton John’s farewell tour was the stuff of legends, spanning countries, years and drawing in a record audience at certain venues. The thing is, once he performed the final show on his farewell tour, Elton John really did say his farewell to touring.

However, this metal singer believes Ozzy Osbourne’s so-called farewell tour is just another form of scamming fans to fill out venues.

Metal Singer Urges Ozzy Osbourne To Make Farewell Tour “Final”

Some musicians have surprised us in recent years by announcing their retirement and a few moments later go on to release new music and tour said new music.

Glenn Danzig doesn’t want Osbourne to be one of them. He wants the rocker to make good on his word when he says he’s embarking on a final tour with Black Sabbath.

For those who aren’t acquainted by Danzig’s work, he is...

‘The Electric State’ Soundtrack: All The Songs In The Netflix Film
Image
An action-packed adventure with a 90’s backbone awaits viewers in Netflix’s The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.

The film also features the voice work of Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate and more. Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film watches Michelle (Brown) and Keats (Pratt) venture into the dangerous Exclusion Zone and the heart of artificial intelligence firm Sentre to try and rescue Michelle’s brother. The politics of robots vs. humans fall to the side as each of them has their own robot companion, and they meet more on their adventures to track down Christopher (Woody Norman), who Michelle was told died in a car accident that also took the lives of their parents.

Several 90’s needle drops play in many different scenes from the more sentimental ones to the high-adrenaline ones. Some are performed by a piano-playing Taco robot.

Glenn Danzig Blasts Bands Who Return to Stage After “Final” Tour: “It’s Kind of a Scam”
Image
Glenn Danzig has made it known that he’s pretty much done touring, outside of short runs and one-off performances, as has been the case with the band Danzig and the reunited Misfits in recent years.

In a new interview, the 69-year-old singer was asked if he’d ever consider playing a big farewell concert before retiring, a la Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s upcoming final show. Although Danzig has no immediate plans for calling it quits, if he did bill a show as his “final” performance, you can bet that he’d stick to his word.

“I mean, I remember when Danzig went out with Ozzy, that was supposed to be his final tour [laughs],” Glenn told Radioactive MikeZ, host on 96.7 Kcal-fm. “And then he’s done a bunch of final tours since then.”

He added, “If it’s gonna be final, it should be final.

Glenn Danzig Is Done with Albums But May Release New Singles with Misfits or Danzig
Image
Glenn Danzig is done recording albums due to the financial risks, the singer revealed in a new interview.

It’s bad news for fans hoping for a new full-length from a reunited Misfits or his band Danzig. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of dropping singles with either act.

Glenn’s remarks came in a new interview on “The Abe Kanan Show” on Sacramento’s 98 Rock Krxq radio. When asked the inevitable question about the chances of a new Misfits album, he opined about the cost of recording an LP and the challenges of recouping those costs.

“Maybe a song. Not an album,” Glenn said of future new releases (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), adding that the same went for Danzig.

He continued, “Look, people now just wanna download your stuff for free, and they don’t understand that it costs money to go in...

Shadow of the Vampire (2000) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
If there’s one horror genre that gets the blood pumping in this particular gore-hound; it’s vampires! Ever since the German silent classic, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, bared its teeth way back in 1922, I’ve been obsessed with the genre. And no, you cheeky undead humanoid creatures, I’m not old enough to have caught that movie way back when. I can’t even remember where I first caught the sight of Max Schreck as Count Orlok, but it left a lasting impression. Ever since, I’ve gorged on human blood, figuratively speaking of course, with everything from The Lost Boys, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Let the Right One In, to more action oriented series like Blade and Underworld. Plus many, many more. The small screen has also had its fair share of awesome vampire action, with the countless TV re-imaginings of Dracula, the sex and claret...

‘Abigail’ – 7 Things We Learned from the Blu-ray Commentary Track
Image
Children can be such monsters, but none quite like Abigail. When you sink your fangs into the horror-comedy on home video, you can enjoy an audio commentary by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and editor Michael P. Shawyer.

Here are seven things I learned from the Abigail commentary…

1. Abigail’s father is revealed early in the film.

Matthew Goode as Abigail’s vampiric crime lord father, Kristof Lazaar, is treated as a reveal in the final act, but Eagle-eyed viewers will notice a framed picture of him on a nightstand in Abigail’s bedroom.

The filmmakers point out that Abigail’s other nightstand features photos of Bettinelli-Olpin’s cats and Gillett’s dog.

2. 10 minutes were cut after a preview screening.

Feedback after Abigail‘s first preview screening resulted in 10 minutes being cut to tighten the pacing, which the filmmakers concede was a good note. Among the changes, two...

“I’m glad I didn’t do it”: Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Failed to Impress Another Contender for the Role Who Called His Performance ‘Gay’ After Failing to Secure the Role Despite His Looks
Image
Wolverine used to be unarguably one of the biggest fan-favorite characters out of all the X-Men. Then came Hugh Jackman, who brought the character to life so immaculately that now fans can’t imagine anyone else playing the respective mutant. But while fans from all across the globe have been deeply mesmerized by his performance, there is still one person who isn’t.

Wolverine in the comics. | Credit: Marvel Comics.

This one person is the singer cum songwriter cum musician and record producer, Glenn Danzig, who was also a contender for this role. As it turns out, not only did Jackman’s performance as Logan cease to impress Danzig and led him to call it “gay,” but it also made him realize just how grateful he was to not have taken on the role!

Glenn Danzig Was Not Impressed With Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine

Abigail Soundtrack: Every Song In The Movie & When They Play
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Abigail.

Abigail's phenomenal score & unique blend of horror and comedy set it apart in the vampire genre. The movie draws inspiration from Dracula's Daughter and Ready or Not, possibly sharing a universe with the latter. The eerie and suspenseful music, along with select songs, enhance the gory and enjoyable viewing experience.

The 2024 horror film Abigail includes a phenomenal score plus select songs that help build the mood and characterizations. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette (who go by the name Radio Silence when working together), Abigail is an original play on the movie Draculas Daughter from 1936. The movie also takes inspiration from a movie made by the same directors, Ready or Not. In addition to sharing the same blend of comedy and horror, Abigail and Ready or Not may exist in a shared universe. Part of what makes these movies so successful is that theyre high concept.

Every Song In The Hangover & Where To Listen
Image
The Hangover soundtrack features a diverse range of songs from artists like Kanye West and Phil Collins. The movie grossed over $467 million worldwide and holds the record for highest-grossing R-rated comedy. The music in The Hangover helps capture the excess and chaos of Las Vegas, enhancing the storyline.

The Hangover soundtrack features songs from a wide variety of musicians, ranging from rappers like Kanye West to prog rock performers like Phil Collins. The movie revolves around a bachelor party in Las Vegas in which the groom (Justin Bartha) goes missing. A disparate group of songs is used throughout this Vegas escapade. There are even a couple of songs in the movie sung by cast members: Stu (Ed Helms) wonders what tigers dream of “when they take a little tiger snooze,” and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) declares them to be “the three best friends that anybody could have.”

The Hangover was a hit at the box office,...

The Dandy Warhols Team Up with Pixies’ Black Francis for “Danzig With Myself”: Stream
Image
The Dandy Warhols have unveiled a new single called “Danzig With Myself,” featuring a guest spot by Pixies frontman Black Francis. The song appears on the alt-rock band’s upcoming album, Rockmaker, out March 15th.

Musically, the song has a Pixies vibe, with Francis contributing a fuzzed-out guitar track. Of the song’s title, Dandy Warhol singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor explained, “It started with a riff that either sounded like Misfits or Danzig and then got slowed down.”

He continued, “Over time, it became the working title that was just too good to replace.”

Taylor-Taylor delivers the verses in a deep sing-talk vocal, although not quite as deep as Glenn Danzig, and the dark lyrics serve as another tribute of sorts to the horror-punk icon. The tune starts out with the lines, “Some days it’s just so obvious/ Some days insidious/ But half the people alive today are/ Are fucking idiots.

Manny Martinez, Early Misfits Drummer, Dead at 69
Image
Manny Martinez, an early drummer for the Misfits, has died as the age of 69.

Depending on the interpretation of the Misfits timeline, Martinez was either the first or second Misfits drummer, forming a lineup with classic members Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig. However, Martinez was definitely the first drummer to appear on an official recording with the band, and actually helped introduce Only and Danzig to one another.

Martinez’s friend Zach Rector shared the news of the drummer’s passing on Facebook:

“Going to miss you Brother Manny Martinez / A true living legend a student of Buddy Rich I remember Manny telling me Multiple occasions of Buddy bringing up his chops while coming up, & his stories of his family’s notorious bar …An Original Misfits period. Glenn Danzig’s ‘Death Rider in the House of Vampires’ Finally Getting a Release on Blu-ray
Image
Glenn Danzig (Verotika) brought his Vampire Spaghetti-Western Death Rider in the House of Vampires to select theaters back in 2021, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about the project. When will you actually be able to watch the movie?

Bloody Disgusting has learned this week that Cleopatra will be releasing Glenn Danzig’s Death Rider in the House of Vampires on DVD and Blu-ray sometime in December 2023!

You can pre-order your copy – various editions are available – right now.

Patrick Bromley wrote in his 2021 review for Bloody Disgusting, “Death Rider in the House of Vampires has all the charm of Verotika, and nearly all of its flaws, too. That’s probably damning praise, encouraging fans of the latter to seek out the former while scaring off those who found Danzig’s first film to be insufferable. Glenn Danzig’s Movie Death Rider in the House of Vampires Gets Blu-Ray/DVD Release
Image
Two years after its arrival in theaters, Glenn Danzig‘s horror film Death Rider in the House of Vampires is finally receiving a physical release on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Danzig’s second original feature-length film and self-described “vampire Spaghetti Western” received a limited theatrical release back in August 2021. The veteran rocker wrote, directed, scored, and starred in the film (playing the character Bad Bathory) alongside the likes of Devon Sawa, Julian Sands, Danny Trejo, Eli Roth, and Kim Director.

The plot follows the Death Rider (Sawa), who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary, ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission is “one untouched virgin.” As seen in the Nsfw trailer for the film, the combo of bloodthirst and gunslinging recalls Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s horror shoot-em-up From Dusk Till Dawn, which also features vampires and pistols.

Satanic Doo-Wop Act Twin Temple Announce New Album, Share “Burn Your Bible”: Stream
Image
Self-described “Satanic doo-wop” act Twin Temple have announced their sophomore album, God Is Dead, arriving October 13th. The lead single “Burn Your Bible” can be streamed now.

The tag “Satanic doo-wop” is pretty spot on: Twin Temple dabble in a blend of soul, R&b, and dark cabaret that’s steeped in blasphemy.

As heard on “Burn Your Bible,” the duo of Zachary James and Alexandra James possess both the necessary self-awareness and musicianship to pull of such an act, sounding something akin to a witchy Amy Winehouse. The lo-fi mono-channel production also adds a macabre, sepia-toned allure.

“Despite relentless death threats and moralizing, our allegiance to Satan and the golden oldies remains unwavering,” stated the band in a press announcement for the LP. “God Is Dead is our most blasphemous, horny and painstakingly period-correct work to date. Saturated with the blood of babies, and forged in the ashes of burning churches,...

Death Rider in the House of Vampires: Danzig film seeks distribution in Cannes
Image
Nearly two years have gone by since we heard anything about Death Rider in the House of Vampires, the second feature directorial effort from musician Glenn Danzig (following the infamous 2019 horror anthology Verotika – watch it Here). At that time, the film was receiving a 200+ screen theatrical release in the United States… but after that theatrical run, the movie disappears. Now Screen Daily reports that Vmi Worldwide is presenting Death Rider in the House of Vampires to potential distributors at the Cannes Film Market – so if deals are secured there, more of us will have a chance to see the movie soon.

Scripted by Danzig, who also composed the score, Death Rider in the House of Vampires is a Spaghetti Western where every single character is a vampire. The story centers on the Death Rider, who travels to the desert Vampire Sanctuary ruled by Count Holliday. The price of admission… one untouched virgin.

All the Music from Showtime’s Yellowjackets Season 2
Image
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets, Season 2 Episode 8, “It Chooses.”]

After a riveting first season filled with sonic callbacks to the ’90s, Season 2 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets kicked off with a similarly wistful tone, thanks to the new trailer, spotlighting Florence and the Machine’s cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.”

Season 1 of the series took viewers back to 1996 when a young group of soccer players survives a plane crash and the aftermath forced the characters to deal with a string of psychologically unfortunate events. Considering when the story starts, music from the era is paramount to the series. So far, we’ve heard everything from Portishead’s “Glory Box” to “Rump Shaker” by Wreckx-n-Effect in the series, with Season 2 promising to keep that same energy while jumping in between timelines.

The ’90s part of the series shows Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Liv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton playing...

Glenn Danzig’s ‘Death Rider in the House of Vampires’ Heads to Cannes
Image
Glenn Danzig (Verotika) brought his Vampire Spaghetti-Western Death Rider in the House of Vampires to select theaters back in 2021, you may recall, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about the project. Screen Daily breaks the silence this week, revealing that Death Rider in the House of Vampires is coming to Cannes this month.

Screen Daily reports, “Vmi Worldwide has added action-horror feature Death Rider in the House of Vampires to its slate for the Cannes market.”

What does this mean? Well, it means that Danzig’s Death Rider in the House of Vampires will be going up for sale this month, which could bring us closer to a wide release. Beyond that limited theatrical release back in 2021, the film hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

The Songs and Soundtrack of Yellowjackets Season 2
Image
This article contains spoilers through the latest episode of Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets has been doing deep-cut needledrops since before Stranger Things season 4 made it cool. While the series certainly leans into the late ’90s setting of the plane crash flashbacks for much of its music (as it should), the present day timeline keeps the series from feeling too limited in its scope of song choices. Yellowjackets is one of the few shows that could pull off having songs from Papa Roach and Sharon Van Etten in the same episode without it being too distracting. Instead, this eclectic mix of music shows that the music supervisor and showrunners know how important the right song is to the story.

Yellowjackets may cover heavy things like trauma and cannibalism, but that doesn’t mean that its soundtrack can’t be full of bops and bangers, including the title sequence song “No Return” by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren.
