Justin Welby Archbishop Of Canterbury Resigns Over Child Abuse Scandal – His Controversial Friendship With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Revealed
Image
Archbishop Justin Welby was forced to resign as Archbishop of Canterbury after he failed to report child abuser John Smyth. Welby was the most senior bishop within the Church of England.

His victims accused Smyth of abusing dozens of boys, including those he met at Christian camps in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s.

Archbishop Justin Welby Married Harry And Meghan In May 2018

By 2013, the Church of England was apparently aware of this horrific abuse, and those “at the highest level” looked the other way, including Welby, who had accepted the Church’s top job that year.

The Church covered up more than 100 child victims. Welby’s judgment has been questioned since he worked with Smyth in the 1970s at Christian Church camps. Smyth had molested the young boys involved with the camps.

The Archbishop was well respected for years. He presided over several occasions for the royal family.

King Charles III Crowned In Historic Coronation Ceremony
Image
The coronation of King Charles III took place on Saturday. The Dean of Westminster poured holy oil onto the Coronation Spoon. Afterward, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby anointed Charles on his head, breast and hands.

Welby then placed St. Edward’s Crown on Charles’ head and exclaimed, “God Save the King,” followed by everyone in attendance.

Camilla, Charles’ wife, was also crowned as Queen. She was similarly anointed with holy oil by Welby and had Queen Mary’s Crown placed on her head. Camilla’s coronation dress was a combination of silver, gold and ivory created by British fashion designer Bruce Oldfield. It was tailored from a silk fabric called Peau de Soie and formed into a coat dress shape.

Sandi Toksvig says Church of England is causing ‘severe mental health problems’ for LGBT+ people
Image
Sandi Toksvig has spoken out against the Church of England’s stance on same-sex marriage, saying that it is “causing severe mental health problems for the LGBTQ+ community”.

On Wednesday (8 February), the Church’s national assembly will vote on a proposal that clergy will be given the option to adopt blessing prayers for couples in same-sex marriages.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said that, while he “joyfully” welcomed the blessings proposals, he would not personally carry them out.

Speaking to BBC News, Qi host Toksvig said that she had met with Welby last month to discuss the topic, but found the conversation “very disappointing”.

“So what we have is two very polarised sides of this argument. The problem is, there’s only one side that is impinging on the lives of others,” she said.

“And I’m afraid the very conservative people, who interpret the Bible with less love than I would hope,...

King Charles III
King Charles III Coronation Date Set by Buckingham Palace
King Charles III
Buckingham Palace has set the date for King Charles III‘s coronation. The ceremony is set for Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London. The coronation comes eight months after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8 and her funeral on September 19. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will conduct the ceremony, which is largely symbolic, as Charles has already begun his reign. Camilla Parker Bowles will be crowned alongside Charles on May 6. Her official title is now Queen Consort. May 6 is also the fourth birthday of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s son, Archie. Buckingham Palace confirmed the date in a statement and said the coronation will “reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” per BBC. Charles became king when his mother died, and his accession was officially proclaimed in the first-ever televised Accession Ceremony...

Solemn, reverent, and at times bizarre: How the BBC and ITV handled coverage of the Queen’s funeral
Queen Elizabeth II
Stop all the clocks,” Wh Auden famously wrote of the enormity of grief; “cut off the telephone... Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.” If Auden were writing that poem about the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the clocks might be replaced with “traffic” and the telephone with “central London”. For one day, Britain seems to have ground to a halt.

In a television landscape increasingly dominated by on-demand streaming, where live “event TV” has become limited to the Euros finals and Love Island, today we bore witness to the passing of a seminal moment in our island’s story: all the major channels devoted their scheduling to the Queen’s funeral, in a sombre, striking acknowledgement that an era is ending. And in this wall-to-wall broadcast, the protagonists – the new King Charles, his wife Camilla, sons William and Harry, and their wives, Kate and Meghan – moved with the enforced dispassion of performers.

Some 2,000 mourners, including world leaders such as US president Joe Biden, took their seats earlier in the 1,269-year-old church ahead of the funeral.

Multiple musical moments feature in the Order of Service. As per The Telegraph, the choices are rooted in tradition but also allude to the Queen’s personal preferences.

Hymns and psalms were sung by the two choirs of Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal.

As the Queen’s coffin was carried into the Abbey, the Sentences were sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey. The five Sentences, which are lines of scripture set to music, have been used at...

TV schedule today: Channel 5 ‘deserves respect’ for airing The Emoji Movie during Queen’s funeral, viewers say
Image
Channel 5 has been praised for being the only UK public service broadcaster not to show any Queen-related coverage on Monday 19 September, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

While BBC One, BBC Two and ITV all aired the funeral live and Channel 4 showed a documentary on the Queen, Channel 5 chose to air animated children’s film The Emoji Movie.

The choice went down well with some viewers. One tweeted that they “don’t understand the criticism of Channel 5 for showing The Emoji Movie during the queen’s funeral”, adding: “What are kids of families who don’t have paid TV/streaming supposed to do otherwise, sit and watch people in suits look overly sad for six hours?”

“Channel 5 deserve a lot of respect for this,” another posted. “Airing an entire day’s worth of kid and family-friendly content to give us a break from wall-to-wall bleakness is a great move.

‘We will meet again’: Vera Lynn quoted at Queen’s funeral by Archbishop Justin Welby
Vera Lynn
Archbishop Justin Welby quoted the late Vera Lynn’s famous Second World War song “We’ll Meet Again” at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on Monday (19 September).

During his sermon at Westminster Abbey, the Most Rev Welby said: “Her late Majesty’s broadcast during Covid lockdown ended with, ‘We will meet again.’ Words of hope from a song of Vera Lynn. Christian hope means certain expectation of something not yet seen.”

After speaking about how the grief felt around the world over the late monarch’s death “arises from her abundant life and loving service”, Welby concluded his sermon with another mention of the song’s lyrics, saying: “All who follow the Queen’s example and inspiration of trust and faith in God can, with her, say, ‘We will meet again.’”

In 2020, the Queen had quoted the famous melody during a speech in which she called on the nation to stay positive throughout the crisis.

Charles To Give 1st Speech As King As U.K. Mourns Queen Elizabeth’s Death
Image
Britain’s new king prepared to meet with the prime minister Friday and address a nation mourning Queen Elizabeth II, the only British monarch most of the world had known and a force of stability in a volatile age.

The country began a 10-day mourning period Friday, with bells tolling around Britain and 96-gun salutes in London – one for each year of the queen’s long life. People around the globe gathered at British embassies to pay homage to the queen, who died Thursday in Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

King Charles III, who spent much of his 73 years preparing for the role, takes the throne in an era of uncertainty for both his country and the monarchy itself. In Britain and across its former colonies, the widespread admiration for Elizabeth herself was sometimes mixed with criticism for the institution and the imperial history she represented.

Church Of England Leader Roasts Critic Over ‘Great British Bake Off’ Barbs
Image
Usually busy guiding the country’s moral compass, the leader of the Church of England has spent time this week deflecting criticism after he dared to weigh in on something nearly as pressing – the spiritual value, or lack thereof, of The Great British Bake Off.

Earlier this week, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, gave an interview to the Radio Times magazine in which he mentioned he didn’t watch the popular TV baking competition (titled The Great British Baking Show in the US and Canada) because he disliked the way “contestants were thrown out the show”. He explained, “I think it’s the modern equivalent of gladiatorial games.”

Fans of Bake Off quickly took him to task, pointing out the kindly nature of the program, in contrast to other, more brutal competitions, citing the support contestants lend one another throughout the series.

And one critic, Roland White,...

Meghan and Harry Got Married 3 Days Before the Royal Wedding in a Special Secret Ceremony
Image
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex covered a number of topics (to say the least) during their interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 7, including their wedding. Meghan and Harry's royal nuptials on May 19, 2018, were watched by an estimated 18 million people in the United Kingdom and 29 million in the United States. It was perhaps one of the biggest events of the entire year. But it turns out the couple actually got married three days before the televised royal event in a small, private ceremony in their backyard.

"You know our wedding, three days before our wedding we got married. No one knows that," Meghan revealed. "We called the archbishop and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us.'" Meghan also revealed that the marriage certificate from that day (May 16) hangs in their home in Montecito, CA. "The vows that...

The British royal family came together for a very important event on Monday: Prince Louis's christening. The christening of the third child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took place at the Chapel Royal in the grounds of St. James's Palace, the same place his older brother Prince George was christened in 2013. At the ceremony, Louis Arthur Charles was baptized into the Church of England, by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who recently presided over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. Louis's great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was not in attendance, is the Supreme Governor of the church.

The prince's 6 godparents were revealed shortly before the ceremony, and included a number of close family friends, as well as Kate's cousin Lucy. Harry and Meghan...

Meghan Markle's Baptism and Prince Louis' Christening Have Something Very Special in Common
It seems Prince Louis is taking after his Aunt Meghan Markle in a very special way! The Duchess of Sussex's baptism took place three months ago, just before she married Prince Harry, and on July 9, the new royal baby's christening will take place where Meghan's did. Prince Louis' service will be at The Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in London. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, baptized Meghan and now he will also christen the two-month-old. Welby is very special to the royal family, as he also officiated Meghan and Harry's nuptials as well as christened Prince George and Princess Charlotte. While Meghan, George, and soon Louis were all baptized at The Chapel Royal, Charlotte was actually christened at Sandringham’s St. Mary Magdalene church in Norfolk, the same place where the late Princess Diana was baptized. However, Louis won't have a private ceremony like Meghan did.

James Corden Says He Nearly Sneezed In the Middle of the Royal Wedding (Video)
James Corden
“Late Late Show” host James Corden was among the many luminaries who attended last weekend’s Royal Wedding, though he nearly ruined it with an inopportune sneeze.

With the world watching the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, including nearly 30 million in the U.S., Corden nearly sneezed when the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, asked the congregation if they knew of a reason why the couple should not lawfully marry.

“Please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze,” Corden said he kept telling himself. “I had to do one of those internal sneezes. I think I got away with it.”

Corden continued: “Imagine having such a beautiful ceremony, that the entire planet actually wants to watch your wedding video.”

"The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God, and is the key to life and happiness," Curry said in a statement. Meghan Markle Will Bring a Little Bit of America to the Royal Wedding With This Speaker
Prince Harry
The royal wedding may be a week away, but Kensington Palace isn't done dishing out the announcements just yet. On May 11, the palace revealed that Chicago pastor Bishop Michael Bruce Curry will give an address at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials. The pastor will join the Dean of Windsor David Conner and Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury, who conducted Meghan's baptism into the Church of England in March.

Is choosing an American pastor another break from tradition for Harry and Meghan? If it is, I'm on board with this one! While the couple doesn't know Michael personally, choosing the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church with roots in Chicago is a sweet nod toward Meghan's education and her alma mater Northwestern University.

Michael released a statement, saying: "The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God,...

People Explains: Can Meghan Markle Get Married in the Church of England?
King Charles III
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are engaged! While Clarence House confirmed that the pair are set to wed in Spring 2018, there are a few complexities when it comes to the big day.

Not since Edward VIII famously abdicated the throne to marry twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson in 1936 has an heir to the throne wed an American — and like Simpson, Markle is divorced. But a lot has changed in the decades since then, and Harry and Meghan are facing a far more relaxed monarchy. What’s more, their wedding won’t be a carbon copy of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s elaborate 2011 nuptials.
