Walt Perez is an award-winning filmmaker who began working on independent and commercial productions in 2008. On March 10, 2009 he founded the production company Verloren Productions. His producing partners are Soraya Haiven Gonzalez & Søren Odom.
In pursuit of an acting career, Walt booked background work in television and film. He then explored the world of Theatre. Appearing in the stage productions of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", "The Glass Menagerie", "The Crucible", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Romeo and Juliet", "My Fair Lady", "Angel Academy", "Games on A Bombed-out Beach", "Picasso's Women" and "Shades".
In 2011, Walt began a work relationship with Warner Bros. Studios. This opportunity allowed Walt to work on various films & television shows, which included; Doctor Sleep (2019), Annabelle : La Maison du mal (2019), Magic Mike: Dernière danse (2023), Aquaman et le Royaume perdu (2023), Mon oncle Charlie (2003), The Voice (2011), Mike & Molly (2010), La méthode Kominsky (2018) and Perry Mason (2020). He also freelanced for Walt Disney Pictures, Universal Pictures, Netflix Studios, Amazon Studios, Lionsgate, Macro and Bron Studios.
Walt made greater strides as a writer, producer and director in recent years with the critically acclaimed film Here in the East (2016). The film brought him numerous honors, including awards at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards, Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and the Chicano International Film Festival for Directing and Best Film.
In 2020, Walt captivated audiences with the psychological thriller Into the Night (2019), which he directed, produced and adapted from a story by Stephen King. After two successful premieres at the Dryden Theatre and Warner Bros. Studios; the film entered the Film Festival circuit in 2020. The film received acclaimed and various festival award nominations. Among its many honors, Adrian De Leon's performance was praised. In 2021, Into the Night (2019) was qualified for consideration in the 93rd Academy Awards, under the Best Live Action Short Film Category.
In 2022, Verloren Productions and director A.M. Walters returned to the world of Stephen King with The Stationary Bike (2022). An adaptation of King's short story of the same name. The film premiered at Raleigh Studios in the fall of 2022. "The Stationary Bike" went on to be nominated and win accolades in the film festival season of 2022 and 2023.
That same year, Walt connected with Michael E. Uslan and team to pitch a treatment for a series titled, "The Man Behind the Bat". As of 2024, this project re-developed into the feature screenplay, Bat 89.
In 2023, Verloren Productions premiered NorJack (2023) at the 76th Festival de Cannes, Court Métrage. The film was written, produced and directed by Perez. On September 16th, 2023, the film had its LA premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatres. The film screened in various film festivals; receiving acclaim and crowned as one of the top short films of 2023. NorJack (2023) was qualified for consideration in the 96th Academy Awards, under the Best Live Action Short Film Category.
At the 2023 Cannes Marché du Film, Walt introduced a new feature film in development titled Macho! This coming of age story holds a personal connection to Walt. The project has gathered momentum and the attention of producers, Albert S. Ruddy, Carla González Vargas, Mayan Lopez, Ann Serrano Lopez, Ben DeJesus and David Kern. In December of 2024, Oscar Orlando Torres offered creative consultation on the production. This creative consultation led Verloren Prod. to hire writer, Antonio De Jesus Rodriguez, to revise the screenplay.
In 2024, Verloren Productions released two short films; Ucronia (2024) & Driftin' on a Memory (2024). The first was written, produced and directed by Perez. The film stars Julian André, Sarah Hamilton, Kenneth Rovira, Jocelyn Kilpatrick and Alicia Urizar McCallum. The second title was written, produced and directed by Angel Ruvalcaba. The film stars Peter Mendoza, Hugo Mejia Loera, Basilio Cerdan Jr. and Carlos Sanchez. Both films have received praise from filmmakers and general audiences. Walt considers the two titles companion pieces as they discuss the theme of Mental Health.
As of 2025, Walt and the Verloren Prod. team continue to develop feature films and produce short films.
