Boy Kills World gets a digital release next week
Image
Boy Kills World looked to be a cool action flick – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it was in his 8/10 review, where he wrote, “I had a total blast with this demented actioner.” But even with producer Sam Raimi’s name on the film, it didn’t draw in much of an audience during its theatrical run. According to The Numbers, it only made $3 million worldwide. Now it’s heading to home video, where hopefully it will have more success. Boy Kills World is getting a digital release next week, on May 28th, and Amazon is already accepting pre-orders at This Link.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Moritz Mohr. It was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on a deaf and mute character, Boy, who navigates this...

Boy Kills World Director On 7-Year Journey To Make Action Comedy & Casting Skarsgrd As Titular Hero
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag. Bill Skarsgrd transitions to action hero roles, starring as the revenge-seeking Boy in Boy Kills World. H. Jon Benjamin voices Boy's inner thoughts, adding a unique twist to the action-packed film. Director Moritz Mohr shares the journey of creating the film from concept to a feature-length project, highlighting its evolution into a "funnier, weirder, crazier" vision than initially conceived.

Bill Skarsgrd becomes an action hero with a little help from Archer's H. Jon Benjamin in Boy Kills World. The Swedish actor is better known for his work in the world of the horror genre, namely playing Pennywise the Clown in Andy Muschietti's It duology, as well as Netflix's Hemlock Grove and Hulu's Castle Rock. In recent years, he has been expanding his filmography to include more action-oriented fare, including playing the villainous Marquis Vincent de Gramont in John...

Boy Kills World's Isaiah Mustafa & Andrew Koji On Nonsensical Characters And Spectacular Stunts
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag. Andrew Koji and Isaiah Mustafa shine in Boy Kills World, delivering a blend of comedy and drama seamlessly. The duo were given largely free rein in playing their outrageous characters, particularly Mustafa's Benny, whose dialogue is largely incomprehensible in the movie. Mustafa hopes for a spinoff focusing on his and Koji's characters, teasing a possible prequel.

Andrew Koji and Isaiah Mustafa return to the action genre with Boy Kills World. After finding international acclaim with the Bruce Lee-based martial arts crime drama Warrior, Koji has since continued his success in the genre with his turns as Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe prequel spinoff Snake Eyes and in the Brad Pitt-led ensemble action-comedy Bullet Train. Mel Gibson's Mark Wahlberg Thriller Flight Risk Is a 'Zany and Wild' Movie
Image
Mel Gibson's upcoming film Flight Risk is a departure from his usual historical epics, promising a wild and action-packed thrill ride according to its producer The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace, with a trailer featuring Wahlberg as a balding and psychotic mob hitman. Boy Kills World, also produced by Hammerstone Studios, is a hyperkinetic blast of an action comedy now in theaters, offering fun escapism.

Mel Gibson hasn't directed a film since the excellent 2016 war picture, Hacksaw Ridge. He's been working on a sequel to his massive success, The Passion of the Christ, for quite a while, but in the meantime, it looks like he's going to have some fun with an action thriller. Isaiah Mustafa & Andrew Koji Hilariously Discuss Boy Kills World
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Isaiah Mustafa and Andrew Koji are absolutely hilarious in the insanely violent Boy Kills World. The feature debut from German director Moritz Mohr has the deaf-mute Boy (Bill Skarsgrd) avenging his family's murder against tyrannical oppressors in a post-apocalyptic city. Mustafa and Koji become his wise-cracking, ass-kicking allies along the way. A running joke has Boy, who reads lips to understand people, being able to comprehend Koji, but he never understands a word Mustafa is saying. His dialogue is entirely composed of gibberish. This laugh riot never gets old. Please read below or watch above for our complete interview with Isaiah Mustafa and Andrew Koji.

Bill Skarsgrds Boy Kills World Struggles to Crack Top-10 Box Office, 45-Year-Old Horror Film Crashes Party
Image
Alien's 45th anniversary rerelease is outshining Bill Skarsgrd's Boy Kills World at the box office this weekend and threatening to keep Bill Skarsgrds new film out of the Top 10. Boy Kills World is clearly facing an uphill battle to crack the weekend's Top 10, especially if the film's financial estimates hold through Saturday night and Sunday morning. Producer Alex Lebovici notes Boy Kills World may not be for everyone, but compares it to a midnight movie that catches on over time.

In space, no one can hear you scream never sounded so good, if one is a fan of 1979s Alien. Director Ridley Scotts classic sci-fi horror film is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary with a special rerelease in movie theaters. Plus, adding insult to injury, Alien is actually outpacing and outperforming Bill Skarsgrds new movie, Boy Kills World, at the box office. If the estimates hold up, Alien could...

Bill Skarsgrd's Boy Kills World Blocked From Box Office Top 10 By 45-Year-Old Classic
Image
The new Bill Skarsgrd action movie Boy Kills World opens to a slow weekend at the box office. The movie earned $1.6 million, placing it at No. 11 on the domestic chart. It has fallen behind the 45th-anniversary re-release of Alien, which took No. 10.

Boy Kills World is off to a rough start at the box office, losing out on a Top 10 slot to a 45-year-old classic. The new action-comedy movie was directed by Moritz Mohr from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers. It stars Bill Skarsgrd as the titular Boy, a deaf and mute fighter who has vowed revenge on the people who killed his family in a near-future dystopia. Boy Kills World Producer Praises Jon Benjamin's Voiceover and Sam Raimi
Image
Boy Kills World is a thrilling action film with unexpected twists and inventive visuals sure to impress audiences at the theaters. Bill Skarsgrd delivers a great silent performance, but H. Jon Benjamin's delightful voiceover is a great contrast, and Alex Lebovici said it was recorded before they even shot the film Lebovici praises Sam Raimi, whose Raimi Productions worked on Boy Kills World with Lebovici's Hammerstone Studios, and the two have completed another film, Don't Move.

Boy Kills World hits theaters today, April 26, and audiences are in for a treat. It's a frequently surprising and jolting rush of action and comedy with inventive visuals and unexpected twists, grounded by a silent but extremely emotive and physical performance from Bill Skarsgrd. He's like Buster Keaton on steroids here as Boy, a beefy fighter who has trained for vengeance ever since the totalitarian rulers of his dystopic city murdered his family...

Boy Kills World Review: Old-School Revenge Thriller Shows Just How Tough Bill Skarsgard Is
Image
Boy Kills World delivers thrilling fight scenes reminiscent of old-school Kung fu films. The film leans into stereotypes despite handling the issue with room for improvement. Skarsgrd and Benjamin's partnership in the movie excites audiences, setting the stage for a potential cult classic.

In the heyday of the FX animated hit Archer, rumors of a live-action film swirled, and many fans wondered who would play the dashing assassin. Unsurprisingly, Jon Hamm was a natural fit to play the role. But, H. Jon Benjamins voice as Archer was so iconic it was later reported that Benjamin would be dubbing Hamms lines. Though that project remains in Hollywood limbo, the concept lives on in Moritz Mohrs Boy Kills World. Bill Skarsgrd plays a deaf-mute whose inner voice is voiced by Benjamin, and it works to perfection, resulting in a film that's a balls-to-the-wall fight spectacular.

Famke Janssen & Brett Gelman Discuss Their Boy Kills World Villains
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Boy Kills World stars Bill Skarsgrd as a deaf and mute fighter seeking bloody vengeance for the murder of his family. His targets are the ruthless van der Koy siblings. They rule a post-apocalyptic city with an iron fist. Famke Janssen co-stars as Hilda van der Koy, a paranoid and psychotic tyrant hellbent on finding a long-lost enemy. Brett Gelman portrays Gideon, Hilda's younger brother. He writes scripts for their theatrical massacres, which are directed by Melanie van der Koy (Michelle Dockery), the middle sister and true brains behind the cruel dynasty.

Boy Kills World surprises by giving the antagonists real, interesting depth. Janssen "added a lot of things that weren't in [the script] just to humanize her and to make her seem truly insane." Gelman felt that Gideon had a "sadness to him" because of "wanting to be a writer and not be a dictator anymore.

‘Boy Kills World’ Review: Bill Skarsgård Is a Deaf-Mute Avenger in an Action Film So Ultraviolent It’s Like ‘John Wick’ Gone ‘Clockwork Orange’
Image
In “Boy Kills World,” Bill Skarsgård has burning eyes and model cheekbones, sinewy arms popping out of a dirty red athletic vest, and a feral pout that makes him look like Jean-Claude Van Damme crossed with Lou Reed. He plays a deaf-mute avenger, known only as Boy, who kills people in insanely violent ways. Yet through it all, the character retains his innocence. He’s a wounded wild child in a man’s body.

Raised in a mountain hideaway by a martial-arts trainer and resistance fighter called the Shaman (Yayan Ruhian), who may remind you, at first, of the Zen master in “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Boy had his past taken away from him by a vicious totalitarian regime. During the Culling, an annual ritual where law and order is maintained by having criminals confront each other in a state-sanctioned televised death match, Boy saw his little sister, Mina (Quinn Copeland...

Boy Kills World review | A gloriously gory thrill ride
Image
Bill Skarsgård goes on a violent murder spree in Moritz Mohr’s superbly gory action thriller. Here’s our Boy Kills World review.

Gore is not for everyone. That goes without saying, but I’m a big fan of bloody spectacle. There’s just something very appealing about limbs getting torn off, heads spinning and blood covering every inch of the screen.

Which is exactly why I loved Boy Kills World, Moritz Mohr’s exceptionally stylish and gory new action thriller. If gore is not your thing, you prefer substance over style, you may want to take this review with a grain of salt.

The film follows Boy, a deaf-mute man played by Bill Skarsgård, who plots revenge against the Van Der Koy family who murdered his own kin via their yearly Hunger Games-style televised event. He can’t speak, but Boy does have a particularly animated inner voice,...

Sam Raimi at an event for Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Producer Sam Raimi unleashed some gnarly cheese grater horror in last year’s Evil Dead Rise, and his next film as producer is armed with the very same skin-obliterating weapon.

I’m of course talking about Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgård as a deaf-mute action hero. The film from producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality,” and Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are bringing it to theaters on April 26. ‘Boy Kills World’ Review: Bill Skarsgård Goes Full Deadpool in a Gonzo Action Movie
Image
Good news for 12-year-old kids who talk about Deadpool as if he’s Jean-Luc Godard, think calling someone a “fuck puppet” is the height of comedy, and just can’t wait until July for another noxiously self-aware cartoon bloodbath about a disfigured anti-hero who dresses in red and simply refuses to shut up: “Boy Kills World” is here. The film’s hyper-logorrheic protagonist doesn’t actually talk, on account of the fact that his tongue was sliced off when he was a child. “Boy” communicates to us instead through the magic of his internal monologue, for which he permanently assigned the voice of H. Jon Benjamin because the “Bob’s Burgers” actor sounds like a little boy’s idea of a lovable vigilante, equal parts Ryan Reynolds and Christian Bale.

As with most of the details that make up Moritz Mohr’s all too zany debut, it’s a clever device...

Review: Boy Kills World Packs a Punch, But Drags Itself Across the Finish Line
Image
Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is what happens when you toss The Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, Happy!, and Crank into a blender. While that sounds rad, the slurry of upbeat action and nonsense plot tangles is much more baffling in execution. Mohr’s vision borrows heavily from button-mashy videogames and dystopian graphic novels, blending Cyberpunk futurism with real-world dictatorship commentaries. There’s a message about fascism and rebellion somewhere in Mohr’s madcap martial arts violence, but it’s lost under the piles of enemy corpses. Boy Kills World never knows the movie it wants to be past a killing spree, as the story makes one poor choice after the next, like a genre satire that becomes what it tries to parody.

Bill Skarsgård stars as the deaf-mute “Boy,” who speaks to us through internal narrations voiced by H. Jon Benjamin. Skarsgård’s protagonist has a singular mission: kill...

Casting is one of the most important aspects of any film or series. Even if it's a shot-for-shot remake, there's a vast difference between the original Funny Games and the English version, despite both having the same director. The same could be said of Psycho; Anthony Perkins' character would be played by Vince Vaughan in the remake, and the difference is palpable. There's an alternate universe out there where thousands of films are vastly different because one actor was chosen instead of another. Add Boy Kills World to the casting multiverse, because instead of Bill Skarsgård, comedian Pete Davidson was almost cast as the titular 'Boy.'

"One of the original ideas was Pete Davidson. That was an idea, and that'd be far more of a comedy. But when you see Bill, and you know how serious and dramatic he is, but also how expressive he is, it was just like,...

Boy Kills World Review: A Jacked-Up Parade of Soulless Ultraviolence
Image
As if taking his older brother Alexander’s hulking, muscular presence in Robert Eggers’s The Northman as a personal challenge, Bill Skarsgård cuts an imposing figure in Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Every bit as jacked up as a professional wrestler, Skarsgård looks the part of a man hell-bent on revenge against Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the dictator who hosts an annual televised event in the film’s post-apocalyptic landscape known as The Culling, which claimed the lives of our hero’s family when he was a child.

Given his brawniness and the relentlessly brutal means with which he trains for his vendetta in the forest with the help of an Asian shaman (Yayan Ruhian), it’s more than a little dissonant that our deaf-mute protagonist, Boy, has his inner thoughts expressed in voiceover by H. Jon Benjamin, of Archer and Bob’s Burgers fame,...

Bill Skarsgård Goes On A Wild Martial Arts Rampage In The Boy Kills World Trailer
Image
Bill Skarsgård has quickly become an actor whose very presence in a film suggests something twisted is about to go down -- that's what happens when you play a child-eating clown monster in two of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time. But where "Barbarian" cleverly used that foreknowledge to subvert audience expectations and "John Wick: Chapter 4" embraced it by casting the "It" star as the slimeball Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, Moritz Mohr splits the difference in his feature directing debut, "Boy Kills World." Instead of casting Skarsgård as a blood-thirsty killer, the film casts him as a righteous killer in the vein of John Wick himself. And you know what? It might just work!

While it didn't exactly blow critics away last year during its premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, "Boy Kills World" still managed to garner praise for its distinct blend of bloody slapstick action and irreverent comedy.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, and you can read his 8/10 review of the film at This Link. 'Boy Kills World' Filmmakers Ran Wild with Effects For Dystopian Thriller
Image
The original trailer concept for Moritz Mohr and Arend Remmers's Boy Kills World didn't skimp on the violence and stylish action as the deaf-mute Boy tore through a group of thugs. With slow-motion shots, satisfying blood splatters, choreography that emphasized the damage the unlikely action hero inflicted, and a dash of humor from the narration, it sparked intrigue for what could be done with a feature-length production. Now that Mohr and his team have had the opportunity to deliver that film and premiere it at the Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness, they can attest to taking a similar all-in approach to gore, action, and special effects on the full project.

‘Boy Kills World’ Review: Moritz Mohr Directs An Unsteady Narrative That Stands Between Gory Kills And Giggles – Toronto Film Festival
Image
In a cinematic landscape built on tried-and-true formulas, Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World dares to be different, blurring the boundaries between absurdity and adrenaline-pumping action. Written by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers, this audacious venture is steeped in a dystopian backdrop plays by its own rules. Dive into a world where chaos meets comedy, and gory kills are an everyday thing. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, Yayan Ruhian, Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji, Brett Gelman, Jessica Rothe, and Isaiah Mustafa.

Boy Kills World begins with an animation about the Culling, a yearly tradition that kills off random members of the population started by Hilda (Janssen). Then cut to the rainy jungle where the Boy, covered in mud, crawls to the feet of Shaman (Ruhian), a man who is also in the jungle training the boy in the way of martial arts. The narrative is accompanied by his...

‘Boy Kills World’ TIFF Review – Manic, Gory Actioner Plays Like a Video Game
Image
Vengeance and action go hand in hand, with revenge frequently serving as the central motivator for a single action hero to punch and slice their way through hordes of enemies. Such is the case with Boy Kills World, the feature debut from director Moritz Mohr. While its revenge plot may not offer any genuine narrative surprises, the manic B-movie energy combined with frenetic, gory action infuses a familiar conceit with a sense of video game fun.

Bill Skarsgård stars as Boy, a deaf-mute honed as a weapon for much of his life by a mysterious Shaman (The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian). Boy’s sole aim through over a decade of brutal training in the jungle is to take down the ruthless tyrant Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen). Hilda and her nefarious clan, including players Sharlto Copley, Michelle Dockery, and Brett Gelman, have created a dystopian Hunger Games-like world that involves an annual culling.

Original Post: A release date still hasn’t been announced for director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) – but while we wait for that information, a mysterious “Cannes trailer” for the film has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above!
