With its first season Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers made a name for itself with its focus on all women musicians featured in the show’s soundtrack, with needle drops like Taylor Swift’s “Nothing New,” Japanese Breakfast’s “Be Sweet,” Brandi Carlile’s “Broken Horses” and Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl” featured in the first season, to name a few. Swift’s “Nothing New” was used in the scene where Nan St. George (Kristine Frøseth) and her friends made their society debut, similar to the procession of Netflix’s Bridgerton in white dresses and feathers.
Later on in the first season, songs like “Kissing Lessons” by Lucy Dacus, “Cedar” by Gracie Abrams,” “Bite the Hand” by boygenius, “Want Want” by Maggie Rogers” and another Taylor Swift anthem, “Long Live” highlighted the high stakes of Nan’s decisions. Season 2 continues in the vein of mostly women artsits featured on the soundtrack.

Chappell Roan just gave fans another taste of her country-inflected song “The Giver” — this time via a retro phone number stunt. Roan, who first premiered the country-tinged track during her Saturday Night Live debut last November, offered an invite to a quirky listening party over the weekend, sharing a now-dead phone number (629-468-8646, spelling out “Hot to Go”) in an Instagram story.
The number led callers through a menu of faux services, including dentistry and plumbing, and fans sufficiently dedicated to navigating the phone tree were rewarded with three snippets of the unreleased track.

Earlier this month, Chappell Roan closed her rousing Grammy Awards speech with a pointed question: “Labels, we got you, but do you got us?” That one moment of advocating for artists to have access to livable wages and healthcare has already inspired tangible results in the music industry. Universal Music Group has partnered with the Music Health Alliance to launch the Music Industry Mental Health Fund, which will provide mental health services to current and former music professionals, even those not connected to Umg.

Universal Music Group and non-profit Music Health Alliance are launching a new mental health initiative for the music industry, they announced Thursday.
The Music Industry Mental Health Fund will “provide comprehensive, high-quality outpatient mental health resources for music industry professionals nationwide,” according to a release. “We have been working on ways to establish a streamlined pathway for mental health access, funding and care planning,” Umg’s chief impact officer Susan Mazo said in a statement.
The fund will offer musicians access to personalized recommendations for mental health professionals, grants to help with care costs and funding resource recommendations, if needed, to continue care.
“Growing and continuing our partnership with Tatum [Hauck Allsep] and the Music Health Alliance was the most natural way to ensure continuous and effective mental health support for anyone working in our industry,” Mazo said in a statement.

In The Recruit, Netflix’s high-octane CIA drama, Noah Centineo plays a lawyer turned unlikely protagonist. But being an action star was never something the 28-year-old sought out. For most of his still slightly nascent career, he’s been in a different box.
“The rom-com, romantic interest archetype was pretty much the only thing that I got booked doing from age 15 until To All the Boys and Perfect Date and Sierra Burgess [Is a Loser],” Centineo tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor spent the bulk of his 20s playing different iterations of the internet’s boyfriend in those Netflix films before pivoting for The Recruit — a move he says wasn’t actually intentional. Set to receive Scad TVfest’s distinguished performance award on Feb. 6, Centineo is eager to expand his horizons as an actor and producer under his production banner, Arkhum Productions.

Spoiler Alert: This piece lightly spoils Xo, Kitty Episode 6.
Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) pays a visit to Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) at a crucial point in Season 2 of Xo, Kitty.
Kavinsky and Kitty first formed a very special bond back in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018), based on the first book of Jenny Han’s best-selling trilogy, when Peter received a love letter from Kitty’s older sister Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor). His cameo appearance in the show, which was revealed in the Season 2 trailer, proved a very special moment both on and off camera.
“The Recruit was filming in Seoul, and there ended up being one day that he could shoot, and it happened to be our first day of shooting of the full season,” showrunner Jessica O’Toole told Deadline. “He’s in a later episode, but we were like ‘Well, we’re gonna make this happen.

There’s apparently still plenty of money to be made in crypto because The Black Keys have signed on to play the final show of “The America Loves Crypto Tour,” which is a not-at-all ridiculously named concert series hosted by the (we kid you not) Stand with Crypto Alliance political action committee.
The “intimate show” goes down next Friday, October 25th at the Akron Civic Theatre in The Black Keys’ hometown of Akron, Ohio. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are just the latest musicians to play in support of the Pac. Previous shows featured performances from Black Pumas, 070 Shake, Big Sean, Jessie Murph, Lauv, and of course, The Chainsmokers.
So while the music industry’s Nft boom is long gone, it appears crypto’s big bet on the 2024 elections has offered a new set of opportunities.

Netflix's A Family Affair features a wide variety of songs on the soundtrack. The soundtrack features tracks from hit contemporary artists including Miley Cyrus, Haim, and Sabrina Carpenter. Because a large portion of the movie takes place during the Christmas season, it also features classic carols such as "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls."
The A Family Affair soundtrack features a wide variety of songs. The Netflix romantic comedy, which became a hit on the streaming platform despite negative reviews that earned it a 41% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, was helmed by The Bridges of Madison County director Richard Lagravenese from a screenplay by Carrie Solomon. The star-studded cast includes Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Kathy Bates, Emmy nominee Joey King, The Greatest Showman and High School Musical star Zac Efron, YouTuber Liza Koshy, The Walking Dead: World Beyond star Wes Jetton, and Joy Ride star Sherry Cola.

Netflix’s A Family Affair launched at the end of June featuring a romance between High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron and Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman. The main obstacle to that romance is Joey King’s Zara Ford, daughter of Nicole Kidman’s Brooke Harwood.
Zara works for Efron’s movie star — very important distinction from a celebrity — Chris Cole, who fits the stereotype of a high maintenance Hollywood boss. She hopes to make her way to a producer one day, but so far she hasn’t been able to climb the ladder. A unique opportunity presents itself when Chris, in an effort to apologize and ask Zara to come back to work for him after she quits one day, gets drunk with Brooke and they start to hook up only to be interrupted by Zara.

Singer-songwriter Ari Staprans Leff, known by his stage name Lauv, performed at Day 1 of the multi-genre music festival Lollapalooza India at Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai on Saturday. The unusual surprise for the fans at the pit came in the form of singer-songwriter Armaan Malik.

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” is set to dominate the original song race. Oscar voters will likely pick all three contenders from the blockbuster for the original song shortlist: Billie Eilish’s tear-inducing ballad “What Was I Made For,” Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and Ryan Gosling’s pitiful song of feeling inadequate “I’m Just Ken.”
Mark Ronson and songwriting partner Andrew Wyatt wrote the latter two, while Eilish partnered with brother Finneas on her tune. However, with only two nominations allowed in this category, it will be left to the music branch to decide which two they pick.
Lenny Kravitz eyes a spot on the list with “Road to Freedom,” a song he penned for George C. Wolfe’s “Rustin.” The soulful song’s horns and trombones are key to this composition, which accompanies the film’s end credits.

Lauv is back with a shimmering new lovestruck tune, “Love U Like That.”
The tender, atmospheric song finds Lauv fully throwing caution — and other peoples’ opinions — to the wind and embracing the whirlwind early days of a relationship: “Really old habits, really old baggage/Just walked away into your madness, onto your mattress,” he sings. But as the song develops, the feelings become more than just carnal, with Lauv singing in a final chorus, “Used to judge myself now I don’t care cause/Hey, I love you like that.

Pixar is back in the original story genre again, but does Elemental have a post-credits scene? The 2023 animated movie from director Peter Sohn tells the story of Ember and Wade, two elements from Elemental City who fall in love despite their differences. It is a return to Pixar making original movies after attempting to expand the Toy Story franchise with Lightyear. Although Elemental is not part of a franchise right now, there is always the chance that the movie could evolve into one if it proves to be successful. Pixar has not announced plans for Elemental 2 yet, but a sequel could be set up in the 2023 release.
Hollywood has become much more comfortable teasing potential sequel plans or simply leaving audiences with an extra surprise through the use of post-credits scenes in recent years. Pixar is no stranger to this tactic, as the studio has repeatedly included blooper reels and...

Disney will release another Pixar movie in 2023, and the Pixar Elemental movie updates hint at the animated film being one of the studio's best releases in years. Elemental will be Pixar’s 27th animated feature overall and will be directed is directed by Peter Sohn, who began working with Pixar as a story artist and production artist on Finding Nemo., went on to direct 2015's The Good Dinosaur, and even voiced the instantly beloved robotic cat, Sox, in Lightyear. After being a part of so many different areas of the creative team, whether it's animating, storyboarding, or even voice acting, Sohn could deliver a truly classic Pixar film with Elemental.
Denise Ream, who worked with Sohn on The Good Dinosaur, will be producing Elemental. She is also no stranger to Pixar, having worked with the company since 2006, beginning as the associate producer of Up. With the animated movie's release date nearing,...

Snapchat is ready to welcome the new year, but not without honoring 2022’s noteworthy achievements. A new year for some means a fresh start or reestablishing goals to achieve. In social media, 2023 means setting new targets and looking toward the future. But before social media platforms embark upon a new year, they must reflect on the successes that allow them to step into January with pride.
With the end of the year in sight, Snapchat has a lot to celebrate. The social media platform has documented the app’s success in its “How Snapchat Captured You in 2022” post. Given that Snapchat is renowned for its lenses, it is natural that it would showcase this year's top-used filters. In the company’s article, the app features the most popular effects of the year, the top sounds used in Snaps, favorite TV shows and movies users shared, and the most popular locations captured in Snaps.

(November 25, 202) – Today, Haitian-Canadian LGBTQ+ artist Tedy releases his EP Manic Party (listen here). Marking the culmination of an incredible year of artistic and personal growth, Manic Party is a portrait of the singer songwriter on the rise. “This album very much came out of the pandemic and spending time focusing on me and my own journey” Tedy says. “I wanted people to get to know me, the real me, and come along for the ride.”
With rich production from Big Taste and Dallas K, Manic Party is a sonically and emotionally rich listening experience. The producers “really tried to understand the process of what I was going through emotionally and musically and helped me create a sound to tell my own story” says Tedy. “It felt so affirming the entire time. They totally put in the work to get me to where I needed to be.”

Lauv broke through in the late 2010s with “I Like Me Better,” a crushed-out electropop song with spare instrumentation and a hushed vocal that shrouded his confessions of vulnerability in extreme-close-up intimacy. Since the release of that single, the singer-songwriter—real name Ari Leff—has established himself as a front-line reporter for emotional twentysomethings, chronicling his loves, losses, drugs, and dreams.

For Lauv, working on healing his inner child through therapy and meditation wasn’t enough – he needed to hop in a time machine and head back to 2005 for some on-the-ground remedying. In the music video for his latest single “Kids Are Born Stars,” a plucky pop track about the type of untarnished confidence that often doesn’t last past childhood, the singer and songwriter pays his younger self a wholesome, reassuring visit from the future.

When it comes to Hayley Kiyoko, there are two important facts you need to know: She’s gay and she’s a proud member of Bachelor Nation. With the self-directed new video for her catchy new single “For the Girls,” Kiyoko imagines what a lesbian Bachelorette would look like. It’s a concept she can’t believe she didn’t try sooner.
“I love The Bachelor franchise. Honestly, reality TV is what gets me through everyday stress,” Kiyoko tells Rolling Stone while en route to the White House’s Aapi Heritage Month festivities.
