Image
Only the faithful will be rewarded when Frogman Returns.

Watch the ribbiting teaser for the found footage cryptid horror sequel below, along with a poster illustrated by Easton Hawk.

Astute horror fans will recognize the clip as a send-up to the Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III teaser, itself a play on the legend of King Arthur.

Rotten Press is set to enter production on the sequel in May.

There’s unfinished business in Loveland. Dallas, Amy, and Frogman are back to settle the score.

Anthony Cousins is returning to the director’s chair from a script he penned with his Frogman co-writer John Karsko.

Nathan Tymoshuk and Chelsey Grant are expected to reprise their roles as Dallas and Amy, respectively.

Popcorn Frights 2024 Found Footage Capsule Reviews: ‘Livescreamers’, ‘Old Wounds’ and More
Image
The latest edition of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival has drawn to a close, wrapping up retro screenings and world premieres with an all-night A Nightmare on Elm Street marathon.

Our first roundup of Popcorn Frights 2024 capsule reviews included found footage fright Chateau, along with fest darlings and new discoveries. The found footage didn’t stop there, though, with the fest’s back half unleashing even more found footage world premieres.

Here’s a round-up of some of Popcorn Frights 2024’s found footage feature offerings…

The Ceremony Is About to Begin

Writer/Director Sean Nichols Lynch employs a well-trodden found footage setup in The Ceremony Is About to Begin. A documentary filmmaker, Keith (John Laird), makes an ancient Egypt-obsessed cult his subject, exploring their inner workings. Of course, there’s an ulterior motive at play for Keith beyond simple documentary aspirations. It yields an unnerving push and pull between Keith and the cult’s youthful,...

The Frogman Movie Singlehandedly Restored My Faith In The Found Footage Horror Genre
Image
Found footage horror is making a comeback with 2023's "Frogman," proving the subgenre is far from over. "Frogman" keeps the filmmaking amateur to enhance the viewer's immersive experience. By revealing the monster in all its glory, "Frogman" stands out among other found footage films.

The Frogman movie is a 2023 found footage horror film, and it's convinced me that the subgenre isn't over. As a whole, horror is a genre that is never going to die. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of awful horror movies, and while these films are often dismissed, and even looked down on in some cinephile circles, they tend to be at the forefront of innovative and thought-provoking storytelling. Just look at the embarrassment of riches that is A24's horror movie catalog. But the problem with the genre is that when one movie does well, copycats often follow.

So when a favorite subgenre of mine,...

‘Frogman’ Review
Image
Stars: Nathan Tymoshuk, Benny Barrett, Ali Daniels, Chari Eckmann, Chelsey Grant, Liam Hage, Stephen Hage, Michael Paul Levin, Arden Michalec | Written by Anthony Cousins, John Karsko | Directed by Anthony Cousins

If you follow my writing in any way, you probably know that The Blair Witch Project is one of my favourite ever movies. Not just horror movies. It was the first horror movie I watched at the cinema and it was probably the first film I really got into in a big way. I bought the books, the t-shirt, read the newspaper articles and followed what I could on the website (I’m not sure I even had the internet at home at the time). So any film that is clearly influenced by the found-footage classic is going to get some love from me.

And Frogman is clearly influenced by The Blair Witch Project. There’s plenty of other stuff...

Frogman (2023)
[Review] Found Footage Cryptid Flick Frogman is A Perfect Friday Night Horror Movie
Frogman (2023)
Friday nights are made for Frogman. It’s a full-on fun fest of found footage freak-outs, killer creature design & effects, and hilarious interviews with kooky locals, including one guy who insists: “Frogman fucks”. Friday nights are not made for introspection and heady deep dives down philosophical rabbit holes. Friday nights are ripe for Pizza and Monsters; Beer and Body Horror; Cozy clothes ‘n’ Cryptids!

Frogman is co-written and directed by Anthony Cousins, who horror fans will no doubt recognize from the slasher send-up segments The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV – The Final Kill & The Night He Came Back Again! Part VI: The Night She Came Back of Scare Package (2019) & Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge (2022). Cousins continues his unique brand of horror-obsessed humor through into this new feature, with a forest dwelling monster that would make Bigfoot jealous.

“Frogman knows exactly how silly and absurd it is,...

‘Frogman’ Review – Found Footage Oddity Finds a Bizarre Monster and Delivers on Its Promises
Image
It was only a matter of time before we got a found footage horror film about Ohio’s cryptid oddity, Loveland’s Frogman (that’s not sarcastic; I’ve seen far stranger indie horror concepts). Anthony Cousins’ search for a slimy urban legend (shot almost exclusively on Hi-8), aptly titled Frogman, is a weirdo treat for fans of V/H/S/94‘s “Storm Drain” segment featuring Raatma and other handheld shaky-specials spawned from The Blair Witch Project inspirations. Shades of Willow Creek chase a mythical creature through dense woodland territories as our view bobbles around much like found footage diehards are used to, which won’t win over any motion-sick doubters of the subgenre — even with a third act that doesn’t shy away from noteworthy Frogman effects and an unrelenting sensation of “going there.”

We follow irrelevant filmmaker Dallas Kyle (Nathan Tymoshuk), whose claim to fame is a 1999 family...

First Trailer for Meta Horror Comedy Anthology Film 'Scare Package'
Zoe Graham and Chelsey Grant in Scare Package (2019)
"What would happen in a horror movie now?" Paper Street Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for an indie horror anthology film titled Scare Package. This premiered at the Sitges Film Festival last year, and also played at the Telluride Horror Show and FrightFest London. This new horror-comedy anthology with seven different stories "brings together some of the brightest rising stars in horror filmmaking today. This splatter-packed, deviously clever throwback pays homage to horror classics with seven hilarious, meta tales of terror, each exploring—and subverting—different genre tropes. All wrapped around every horror fan's beloved stomping grounds: an old school video store." Starring Noah Segan, Baron Vaughn, Chase Williamson, Jocelyn DeBoer, Jeremy King, Dustin Rhodes, Zoe Graham, Hawn Tran, Chelsey Grant, Jon Michael Simpson, Josephine McAdam, and more. Looks like some crazy good fun! Enjoy. Here's the official trailer (+ rad poster) for Paper Street Pictures' Scare Package, direct from YouTube: Seven directors.
