Cinderella’s Revenge trailer: Natasha Henstridge horror film reaches theatres in April
Image
About eight months ago, we heard that Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, had signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. Last week, it was announced that the film is set to receive a theatrical release on April 26th, courtesy of Iconic Events. Now a trailer has arrived online to offer a glimpse of what this film has in store for us when it reaches the big screen, and you can check it out in the embed above.

This theatrical release is part of an exclusive deal with Regal, with Quiver Distribution handling all other rights in North America.

Starring Lauren Staerck (Curse of Jack Frost) as Cinderella, this gory twist on the fairy tale will show us what happens when Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far,...

About eight months ago, we heard that Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, had signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. The film was in production in the UK at the time, with Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) directing for Sobini Films. Cinderella’s Revenge has since made its way through post-production, and now The Wrap reports that it’s set to receive a theatrical release on April 26th, courtesy of Iconic Events. Cinderella’s Revenge: Natasha Henstridge stars in horrific fairy tale
Image
Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, has signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. Filming is already underway in the UK, with Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) directing for Sobini Films.

Starring Lauren Staerck (Curse of Jack Frost) as Cinderella, this take on the fairy tale will show us what happens when Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far, leading her to swap her glass slippers in pursuit of blood-soaked vengeance with the help of her Fairy Godmother.

My immediate assumption was that Henstridge would be playing the wicked stepmother, but she’s actually taking on the role of the Fairy Godmother.

Henstridge and Staerck are joined in the cast of Cinderella’s Revenge by Stephanie Lodge (Jack & Jill: The Hills of Hell), Beatrice Fletcher...

‘Freeze’ Review
Image

Freeze, the new film from writer/director Charlie Steeds tells of the good ship Innsmouth, it’s Captain Mortimer and a crew that includes first mate McCullough, Charles Redgrave an artist there to document the voyage, Lieutenant Roth, and Seaman Spriggs. Also, unbeknownst to the crew there’s Carmen (Beatrice Barrilà; Invisible – Chapter I) a stowaway with an agenda of her own. They’ve been sent to find out what happened to the expedition led by Mortimer’s friend Sir William Streiner which ventured into the frozen north and never returned. Unfortunately the Innsmouth becomes trapped in the ice and its crew face the same fate as those they were supposed to rescue.

Much of the first act takes place on the ship which is described as a warship but looks...

‘Demonic Plastic Surgeon M.D.’ Review
Image
Stars: Danielle Scott, Aimee Marie Higham, Sofia Lacey, Chrissie Wunna, Jo Barker, Ricardo Freitas, Alessia Pontiero, Stephen Staley | Written by Scott Jeffrey | Directed by Louisa Warren

Doctor Carver 2, Conjuring the Plastic Surgeon 2, Demonic Plastic Surgeon M.D., can we make our mind up just what this film is actually called please? Yes, like the original movie, it seems our sequel is going by numerous mockers depending on where you look! No matter though, the plot is still the same whatever the name – at an elderly people’s home, the demonic plastic surgeon has been summoned once again, to give its elderly residents makeovers they won’t forget… Or live to enjoy!

If you’ve seen the first film, what initially strikes you about this film is how the lines are blurred between what happened in the original film and this sequel – with not only Aimee Marie Higham playing Tonya (taking...

‘Freeze’ Trailer – Lovecraftian Fish Monster Movie Won H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival’s Best Film
Image
Headed our way this winter is the next horror movie from director Charlie Steeds (The Barge People), the Lovecraftian creature feature Freeze from Dark Temple Motion Pictures.

The arctic horror movie won the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival’s Best Film Award 2022, which gives it some legit Lovecraft cred. You can watch the official trailer for Freeze below.

“On a rescue mission to the North Pole to retrieve an old friend and his lost expedition crew, Captain Mortimer gets more than he bargained for when his ship is frozen into the ice sheet and set upon by bloodthirsty fish-creatures. Mortimer and his surviving crew flee the ship, beginning a treacherous journey to find safety in a frozen desolate wilderness.

“Suffering from starvation, frostbite and a slow madness, they find shelter inside a snowy mountain, but are they as safe as they think, or have they entered the heart of the creatures lair.

Giancarlo Commare and Gianmarco Saurino in Mascarpone (2021)
Official US Trailer for Sensual Italian LGBTQ Comedy 'Mascarpone'
Giancarlo Commare and Gianmarco Saurino in Mascarpone (2021)
"You need to find yourself before you start looking for love." Dark Star & Uncork'd Ent. have revealed an official US trailer for a film called Mascarpone, which is the cheesy (literally) alternate US title for this. The original Italian title is Maschile Singolare, which translates directly to Masculine Singular. Antonio is a family man whose life takes an unexpected twist when he’s suddenly dumped by his husband. Antonio now needs to find a new place to stay, a job and a new purpose in life: through this process, he discovers the value of independence. The film stars Sarah T. Cohen, Alistair Stoneman, Jamila Martin-Wingett, Ray Whelan, Ricardo Freitas, Nicola Wright, and Tony Goodall. "A lovely coming-of-age film that wears its heart on its sleeve, Mascarpone has been a hit on the festival hit and we're confident it’ll be just as much a success in its" release, the distributors state.

‘Jurassic Island’ Review
Image
Stars: Sarah T. Cohen, Tony Goodall, Nicola Wright, Alistair Stoneman, Jamila Wingett, Ray Whelan, Ricardo Freitas | Written by Dominic Ellis, Tom Joliffe | Directed by Dominic Ellis

What a shocker, another Scott Jeffrey produced horror getting reviewed on Nerdly… I think we must have reviewed at least 80 of Jeffrey’s output across the handful of production companies he has. This time around we’re back in dino territory following Jeffrey’s other Jurassic-themed horrors Dinosaur Hotel and Hatched.

Jurassic Island – not to be confused with the UK release of The Final Level: Escaping Rancala, which debuted on DVD under the same name – tells the story of Ava (Sarah T. Cohen) whose father (Tony Goodall) and his partner (played by Nicola Wright) go missing on the hunt for the titular island. Planning an expedition to find them, Ava enlists the help of boyfriend Luke (Alistair Stoneman), her scientist friends Cassie (Jamila Wingett...

‘Werewolf Castle’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Reece Connolly, Peter Lofsgard, Greg Draven, Derek Nelson, Tim Cartwright, Jay O’Connell, Ricardo Freitas, Emma Spurgin Hussey | Written and Directed by Charlie Steeds

We’re not five minutes into Charlie Steeds’ new film, Werewolf Castle when he unleashes Wolfstan (Reece Connolly; A Werewolf in England) and his horde of lycanthropes on a Medieval town. They kill everyone they can find, including a young lass who they kill while her lover Thorfinn (Peter Lofsgard; The Mummy) hides.

Three knights Thomas (Greg Draven; Ravenswood), Osmond who is introduced as their fastest rider even though we never actually see them on horseback, Hamelin and the rogue Hal Skullsplitter (Jay O’Connell; The Legend of Jack and Jill) arrive to deal with the problem. But can they, and Thorfinn who is desperate to atone for his cowardice, find a way to stop these creatures?

Steeds’ previous film on the subject, A Werewolf in England,...

‘Bats’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Megan Purvis, Georgia Conlan, Amanda-Jade Tyler, Ricardo Freitas, Kate Sandison, Venetia Cook, Marek Lichtenberg, Nicole Nabi, Mat Sibal, Ellis Tustin | Written by Scott Jeffrey | Directed by Scott Jeffrey, Rebecca Matthews

What’s that? Another Scott Jeffrey film getting reviewed on Nerdly… anyone would think we’re fanboys over here! Well, to be fair, I don’t see too many people trying to review each and every genre film Jeffrey puts out – mainly because there’s a lot of snobbish reviewers out there who, even if they love genre cinema, seem to give these ultra-low budget British films a short shrift. Not us. Well me I mean. No matter the subject matter, no matter the budget I typically find something interesting in each and every one of the films he’s worked on. And Bats, surprisingly, is no different.

I say surprisingly because Bats sees Jeffrey return to a trope...

‘Hatched’ Review
Image
Stars: Megan Purvis, Nicola Wright, Amanda-Jade Tyler, Derek Nelson, Georgie Banks, Nicole Nabi, Thomas Loone, Marshall Hawkes, Richard Kovacs, Ricardo Freitas, David Castleford | Written by Scott Jeffrey, Craig McLearie | Directed by Scott Jeffrey, Rebecca Matthews

The second dinosaur-themed movie from producer/director Scott Jeffrey in the space of two weeks (the first being Dinosaur Hotel), Hatched sees obsessive scientist Simon (Thomas Loone) discover a way to bring dinosaurs back to life. Big mistake (obviously). His creations escape and proceed to eat him; and his wife Christine (Amanda-Jade Tyler), leaving only his son Mark alive.

Driving into this mess are Simon’s family who decide today’s the day they want to pay their estranged family member a visit. Big mistake (again). Simon’s family find him dead, eaten by his creations with only mark left behind. Only – apparently – Mark shouldn’t be alive. Yes, you’ve guessed it, Jeffrey and co.

‘Tooth Fairy: The Last Extraction’ Review
Image
Stars: Andrew Rolfe, Annie Knox, Jo Barker, Evangelina Burton, Rob Drake, Ricardo Freitas, Lee Hancock, Lewis Hudson, Anthony Howes, Lucinda Nicole | Written by Tom Jolliffe | Directed by Louisa Warren

Ah the laws of diminishing returns… Tooth Fairy: The Last Extraction is the second sequel the less-than-stellar original film, which was pretty bad – even for low-budget British film. In fact that first film was a blight on the record of Champ Dog Films who had – until then – been making inroads into the UK genre scene for some time, often overcoming shortcomings, be they budget, production values or performances, to create genre fare worthy of carry the tag of “ a great British Horror film.” Luckily for Champ Dog they managed to strike a deal with US distributors, finding success on the shelves of Walmart’s across the States… which, one would assume, is how we’ve got to a Third film in...

‘Hellkat’ Review
Image
Stars: Sarah T. Cohen, Ryan Davies, Adrian Bouchet, Abi Casson Thompson, Frances Katz, Ricardo Freitas, Vaani K Sharma, Michael Hoad, Serhat Metin, Harvey McDonald | Written by Michele Pacitti | Directed by Scott Jeffery, Rebecca Matthews

We’ve covered quite a few films from UK production outfit Proportion Productions, who have become almost factory-like in their film output in recent years; and, once again, I’m going to sound like a broken record as I extol the virtues of the company… No, I don’t get paid to review their films and no, they don’t have any influence over what we say about their films her on Nerdly. But there’s something that has struck a a chord with me in each and every one of their films I’ve seen – from the Unhinged remake (a sequel to which is promised on the companies website), House on Elm Lake, Curse of the Scarecrow,...
