A former aide for Prince William and Prince Harry has shed new light on the infamous divide between the two brothers.

Jason Knauf, who previously served as a communications secretary for William and his wife Kate Middleton, Harry and Meghan Markle, and chief executive of the Prince and Princess of Wales Royal Foundation, gave details about the rift between Harry and William.

On Feb. 23’s 60 Minutes Australia, Knauf explained, “It’s very difficult to have this stuff play out in the public eye, but [William has] chosen to keep his thoughts on it private, and I think all of us who know him really have to respect that we should do the same. But I will say, of course, it’s been hard and sad, especially for all of us who know both of them. I worked really closely with the two of them, and we had lots of great times.

The former royal advisor, who accused Meghan Markle of bullying junior palace staff nearly seven years ago, opened up in a new interview for 60 Minutes Australia.

Jason addressed the public attention he has received since the 2018 allegations, which were leaked in 2021.

During the conversation, he was asked if he’d do anything differently today.

“I wouldn’t change anything,” he said, adding “I think it’s tough, but it’s probably quite good.”

A former royal aide has spoken on TV about Prince William’s devastation after receiving news of cancer diagnoses for his wife Kate Middleton and father King Charles, a few weeks apart.

The Sun newspaper reports that Jason Knauf was speaking to Australian current affairs show 60 Minutes Australia when he shared taking an emotional phone call from William, recalling:

“Within a couple of weeks if you’re Prince William, you find out that both your wife and your father have cancer.

“I couldn’t believe it. It was awful, absolutely awful. It’s the lowest I’ve ever seen him.”

Knauf, who previously worked for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as Kate and William, was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list in 2023 for his service to the monarchy.

He was previously responsible for raising concerns in 2018 about the treatment by Meghan Markle towards the team’s staff.

Meghan Markle is no stranger to dealing with disgruntled employees and complaints.

Claims that Meghan bullied employees stem from allegations that came out in 2018 and concerned palace personal attendants, according to Newsweek.

Kensington Palace press secretary Jason Knauf emailed Prince William’s private secretary, Simon Case, saying, “I am very concerned that the duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year.”

Meghan was branded “Duchess Difficult” after this, and the label persisted long after the Times reported the negative name.

Updated, 1 Pm: Buckingham Palace said Wednesday it is launching an investigation into allegations that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, bullied her staff at Kensington Palace. In an official statement obtained by UK media, Buckingham Palace said it was “very concerned” about the allegations outlined in The Times of London report.

“Accordingly our Hr team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article,” the statement said. “Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the Household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned.”

In a competitive situation, ITV has secured the exclusive UK television rights to CBS’s blockbuster interview between Oprah Winfrey and defected British royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

ITV has fought off competition from the likes of Sky and Discovery to land the rights to what promises to be an explosive interview, in which Winfrey makes clear that there is no subject “off-limits.”

The ITV deal is reportedly worth around £1 million ($1.4M), with the MailOnline first reporting on February 22 that the broadcaster was the frontrunner to land the interview. Variety first reported on Sky and Discovery’s interest.

On Tuesday, Kensington Palace revealed details of the highly anticipated nuptials, just one day after the couple announced their engagement.
