Saturday Night Live is the longest-running sketch comedy series in TV history, because you don’t make it into the record books with “skits.”
While the end product may often be irreverent, silly and indulgently stupid, SNL is serious work for the army of creatives involved each hellish production week. Almost all of the biggest stars and most influential writers of the last 50 years in American comedy have spent at least one sleepless night slamming their head against a table in 30 Rockefeller Plaza while trying to come up with the perfect punchline for four-minute sketch about Justin Bieber going to Krispy Kreme or something similarly inane. SNL is more than just a show — it’s a comedy institution, and those who don’t respect it don’t last long.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale “Gimme The Weight.”
So many people were killed in the Season 4 finale of Starz’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan, leaving many questions about the future of many of the show’s biggest characters.
Across four seasons on the show, Patina Miller brought to life the tough-as-nails queenpin of the Southside, Raquel “Raq” Thomas, a role that originated in the first episode of Season 1. While the screen fades to black in the very last moments of the episode, Raq’s only son, Kanan (MeKai Curtis), killed her after becoming convinced she was behind the murders of people whom he treasures most, like his best friend and surrogate brother Famous (Antonio Ortiz) and his girlfriend Krystal (Aliyah Turner).

When the idea of #1 Happy Family USA was becoming a reality, part of what drew cocreator Ramy Youssef to do it as an animated show was the age of the show’s protagonist. “Middle school in general feels dramatic. [It] feels like the surveillance state. You go, who’s looking at me? Is Courtney talking about me? What did she say? All of that stuff feels like a level of national security for a kid. There’s no real wall of understanding that a kid’s personal drama is not the biggest thing going on in the world,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel. Doing this as an animated show has also given the show the perfect tone. “There are things that we can animate here that would be just too dramatic, but in this format feel really alive and really fun.”

[This story contains major spoilers from the season four finale of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.]
It’s been an intense ride for Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Starz’s other spinoff series from its massive network redefining Power franchise launched in 2021. Unlike Power Book II: Ghost which was a continuation in the aftermath of Ghost’s death and the departure of Omari Hardwick, prequel Raising Kanan was charged with exploring a younger Kanan, the character Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson played in the flagship of the Power franchise that he and co-creator Courtney Kemp launched in 2014.
In the series spearheaded by showrunner Sascha Penn is a backstory that sought to explain how Kanan became the monster fans saw in the original. That meant bringing in Mekai Curtis as 15-year-old Kanan to play opposite Tony winner Patina Miller as his ambitious, drug-dealing mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas, who led the family drug business with her older brother, Marvin (London Miller) and youngest brother...

I'll be the first to admit that, when it comes to horror movies, I'm a bit of a wimp. When I was a kid, "The Exorcist" was re-released, and the TV commercials gave me nightmares for several weeks. With that said, a movie like Josh Ruben's "Heart Eyes" is approachable even for scared little babies like me, which makes it utterly unsurprising that the movie is performing quite well on Netflix, according to FlixPatrol.
"Heart Eyes" came out on February 7, 2025 — and now that its theatrical release is finished, it's found a home on Netflix and is getting a lot of attention ... as it should! The horror-romance hybrid centers on Ally McCabe (Olivia Holt), a young woman who works for a jewelry company and, fresh off a breakup, ends up meeting consulting advertiser Jay Simmons (Mason Gooding) in a professional context ... only for sparks to quickly fly. However, things go...

Saturday Night Live is coming to the end of a rather momentous season, one which included its 50th anniversary that was as star-studded as anyone could have expected.
But as the cast of the long-running NBC comedy start to prepare for the season finale on May 17, hosted by Scarlett Johansson, the rumor mill has been heating up regarding which of the cast might leave the show this summer.
Ego Nwodim, who joined the cast in 2018 for Season 44, told Deadline recently season 50 felt like “building up to a wedding”. But as a recent study highlighted, the more one spends on a wedding, the more likely the chance of divorce.
Many observers expect there to be some departures after Season 50 but few expect a full exodus, similar to the one that happened three years ago at the end of season 47, which saw the exit of eight people including Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson,...

Seth Meyers has decades of experience in late-night TV between his time on Saturday Night Live and as host of Late Night. Still, the comedian doesn't get used to seeing any show go off the air.
Meyers has been around to see shows like Lights Out with David Spade, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee go off the air. He's also watched as fellow hosts like James Corden and Conan O'Brien signed off for the final time.
Now, another late-night TV show is ready to end production. CBS announced After Midnight will end after two seasons. Host Taylor Tomlinson indicated a desire to return to stand-up despite an offer from the network for a third season. CBS also indicated it won't try to fill the timeslot, previously occupied by The Late Late Show with James Corden, with another late-night TV show.

Official Poster Of #1 Happy Family USA (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Animated comedies have long been the lifeblood of late-night TV, with classics like The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy aging like fine wine or at least like stubborn pop culture icons that refuse to leave the dinner table. Now, Prime Video has tossed its own wild card into the mix, and it’s already shaking things up.
A New Contender Enters the Animated Arena
Say hello to #1 Happy Family USA, the brainchild of Ramy Youssef. Yep, the same Ramy who turned cultural introspection into comedy gold with Ramy on Hulu. This time around, he’s traded moody dramedy for animated satire, diving headfirst into a post-9/11 America through the eyes of the relentlessly chipper Hussein family.
The series’ plotline reads, “#1 Happy Family USA follows the maniacally upbeat Husseins – the most patriotic, most peaceful, and most definitely-not-suspicious Muslim family in post-9/11 ‘Amreeka.

Animated shows have been popular for decades, with shows like The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, American Dad, and South Park continuing to enjoy a lot of popularity even after double-digit seasons. Now, Prime Video has added a new animated series that seems to have great potential.
Stand-up comedian and actor Ramy Youssef just created a new series, #1 Happy Family USA, following the success of his hit comedy drama Ramy, which ran for three seasons on Hulu. The new comedy series takes place in the early 2000s and follows the non-suspicious Muslim family, the Husseins, in a post-9/11 America. Following its debut on Prime Video, #1 Happy Family USA debuted with a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.
#1 Happy Family USA debuted on Prime Video on Apr. 17, and it's already receiving positive reviews from critics. So far, the series has only five reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but all of them are positive.

Today sees the release of#1 Happy Family USA, an uproarious Prime Video original that follows the Hussein family, a group of eternally optimistic and super-patriotic — and in no way suspicious at all, so don't even think about considering that — Muslim Americans who are attempting to navigate what life is like for them in the wake of September 11, 2001. The show is the brainchild of Ramy Youssef, who worked alongside Pam Brady, best known for her work on South Park, to give the series a particularly sharp edge. To mark the big day, Collider is delighted to once again be working with Prime Video to bring you an exclusive sneak peek at the series.

Fans missing the bone-dry wit of “Succession” may finally quench their thirst with Jesse Armstrong’s new HBO satire “Mountainhead.”
While promoting his new adult animated series “#1 Happy Family USA,” Ramy Youssef — one of the leads in the “Succession” creator’s feature film debut — called the project “funny in the same way ‘Succession’ is.”
“‘Succession’ is one of the best comedies ever made — and this film is certainly funny in the same way,” Youssef told Variety on Wednesday night at the “#1 Happy Family USA” premiere in New York. “Jesse’s writing is on another level. It’s really hard to find something of that caliber, so getting to do it was such a joy.”

Lines are being drawn in the sand today in a Collider-exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming installment of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. This week will mark the fourth season’s seventh episode, “Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself,” which pushes the story further into what we can only presume will be a vicious, drama-filled, and brutal climax as Patina Miller’s Raquel Thomas continues her journey to become the biggest and most feared name in the drug dealing game. While MeKai Curtis, who plays the show’s titular lead, is absent from our exclusive sneak peek, audiences are invited to pull up a chair and sit in on a brainstorming session between Raquel, London Brown’s Marvin, and Tony Danza’s Stefano.

At first, the beef between Saturday Night Live and Morgan Wallen seemed like a misunderstanding. Sure, Wallen walked off stage while the credits were rolling, but that was an honest mistake, right? His “Get me back to God’s country” Instagram Story might have been Wallen ready to end a long work week. But considering the way SNL called out Wallen on last week’s show, he must have been a pain in the ass after all. The incident inspired a Reddit thread on r/LiveFromNewYork where fans recalled other times SNL clapped back at guests after they turned in problematic performances.

Every now and then, a true cinematic classic flies so far under the radar that its destiny to become a cult favorite is clear right from the start. Such was the case with the 2016 mockumentary musical comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which stars Saturday Night Live alumnus and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg as Conner "Kid Conner" Friel, a pop star struggling to go solo after being part of the rap group phenomenon The Style Boyz.
Grossly missed by many upon release, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping has now landed on Prime Video, and we urge you to either discover or rediscover this modern comedy masterpiece. Directed by The Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone and written by and starring fellow The Lonely Island member Andy Samberg, as well as Taccone, and Schaffer, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping was co-produced by Judd Apatow and Rodney Rothman.

In this day and age of peak(ish) TV, it’s not unusual for a series to cap a season with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. But the third season of the Starz hit Power Book III: Raising Kanan dropped one and then some.
“I don’t think anyone was ready for how it ended,” star Patina Miller told The Hollywood Reporter during a special event in partnership with Starz in Park City, Utah, during the Sundance Film Festival in January. “It literally ended on two bangs.”
Two bangs followed by two bodies hitting the floor to close out a wild and action-packed third season. The fourth is locked and loaded and ready to roll out on March 7, and ahead of its debut Miller joined showrunner, executive producer and Power guru Sascha Penn, title star Mekai Curtis and the one and only Tony Danza for a compliment-filled panel discussion at Pendry Park City.

Ramy Youssef is back on television, and he's not steering clear of controversial subject matter. The acclaimed creator and star of Hulu's Ramy is getting a bit more, uh, animated in his next outing, via the comedy #1 Happy Family USA for Prime Video. Because, frankly, it's about time someone made an adult animated series following a Muslim family living in New Jersey in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.
As the official synopsis puts it:
"From creator Ramy Youssef comes '#1 Happy Family USA,' an adult-animated series following the maniacally upbeat Husseins — the most patriotic, most peaceful, and most definitely-not-suspicious Muslim family in post-9/11 "Amreeka." With satire and absurdity, it redefines finding humor in hardship as they navigate the early 2000s under the watchful eyes of their terrified neighbors."
And we now have a release date — April 17, 2025 — and an official trailer for the series; the latter of...

On Tuesday, less than a month before the season four premiere on March 7, Starz dropped a trailer for the new batch of episodes of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. It opens with the title character, Kanan Stark, played by Mekai Curtis, fielding questions about identity and pondering exactly who he wants to be in the shadow of his powerhouse mother, Raq, played by Patina Miller.
Who can blame him after that explosive season three finale that ended in a bloodbath and brought mother and son face to face with the realization that they may be much more alike than they previously thought. “I want them to see me as me, not who my mother is,” Kanan says in the new clip.

Natalie Portman beyond her reputation as a serious actress has also proven to have a wicked sense of humor. One of the most unexpected moments of her career came in the form of a shockingly explicit rap performance on Saturday Night Live (SNL). Portman first appeared in 2006 and then returned in 2018, using this rap to portray her exaggerated, aggressive side.

Kanan Stark will be back on the streets this spring — and he won’t be alone.
Season 4 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan will premiere Friday, March 7 at 8/7c on Starz, the network announced on Thursday, with rapper Pardison Fontaine and SNL alum Chris Redd joining the cast. The ’90s-set crime drama follows Queens native Kanan Stark (played by MeKai Curtis) as he rises through the ranks of the local drug business run by his mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas, played by Patina Miller.
The big twist in Season 4, though, is that rival drug kingpin Unique, played by rapper Joey Bada$$, is alive after all — though he’s sporting some pretty rough scars in the first-look photos below. “Slates have seemingly been wiped clean for Kanan, Raq, and the rest of the Thomas family in pursuit of a fresh start,” per the official Season 4 synopsis. “However in the eye of the storm, one very dangerous obstacle looms large, Unique is alive.”
In Season 4, “Unique makes a volatile and violent return, as he hunts to upend the lives of the Thomas family. Amidst the chaos, the Thomas family faces a truth that can no longer be denied: You are who you are. Although you may be capable of change, the fundamentals remain the same, and sooner or later, you will be forced to confront the inescapable reality of your inherent nature. In Season 4, whether the family chooses to reject or embrace the truth may be the difference between life and death.”
Also in the Power Book III cast are Tony Danza as Italian mobster Stefano Marchetti, Wendell Pierce and Erika Woods as Snaps and Pop, London Brown as Marvin Thomas, Malcolm Mays as Lou-Lou Thomas and Hailey Kilgore as Jukebox. Scroll down to get a sneak peek at Season 4 of Raising Kanan, and hit the comments to share your hopes and predictions for the new season. Dropout is home to much more than Dimension 20 and other DnD actual play, and now the critically acclaimed series Very Important People returns for season 2, giving host Vic Michaelis (known for playing Mildred in Upload) a whole new roster of idiosyncratic creations to interview. Structured as a long-form interview show, Very Important People sees Vic (playing an exaggerated version of themself) discuss the life, origins, and goals of bizarre characters created through a mixture of improv comedians and stunning make-up work. Season 1 was a strange and surprisingly sweet collection of characters (who were never too far away from revealing a horrible secret).
Season 2 ups the ante, with some returning faces from across Dropout appearing as new characters. A number of new guests like John Early, Danielle Pinnock, Bobby Moynihan (Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy), Nicole Byer, Chris Redd, and more are also poised to join the festivities. Ahead...

Dropout’s “Very Important People” has a very important list of guest stars for Season 2. That starts off with Anna Garcia (“Superstore”), who plays “Zeke Aaron McKinley,” fourth grader who was turned into a rock formation after making a wish. Also set to appear this season: Comedians including Nicole Byer, Chris Redd, Bobby Moynihan, John Early, Kate Berlant, Paul F. Tompkins, Echo Kellum, Lisa Gilroy and Danielle Pinnock.
The premise of the comedic talk show, which comes from the team formerly known as CollegeHumor and host Vic Michaelis, is simple. It starts out as a chat between Michaelis and their guest — who has to come up with the character they’re going to play during the interview in five minutes, following a blind makeover.
Garcia is one of several “VIP” Season 1 guests and fellow Dropout stars who have returned this time, along with the well-known stars like Byer, Moynihan and Tompkins.

Comedy Centrals Detroiters has just been added to Netflix, and its a glorious blend of sketch and situational comedy. Starring Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave) and Sam Richardson (Veep), Detroiters checks all the boxes with only 20 episodes. The shows premise lends itself to ridiculously drawn-out comedy bits, explosive performances, and dumb but memorable jingles the Devereux Wigs jingle stays on loop and is a welcome distraction any time. From executive producers Lorne Michaels and Jason Sudeikis, Detroiters is aptly filled with SNL cameos including Chris Redd, Michael Che, Tim Meadows, Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon (voiceover), and Sudeikis himself.

Lorne Michaels is best known as the creator and producer of NBCs iconic sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live. However, there are many other movies and TV shows that he has helped bring to life. Often, the shows he works on feature Saturday Night Live alumni, helping them further develop their careers after leaving the show.
SNL has been an unparalleled cultural sensation for decades, and many of Lorne Michael's other TV shows are great fun. In fact, some of his other shows, due to their shorter lifespans, even boast a level of consistency far greater than Michaels flagship production.

When tired old vehicles roll onto the lot, it’s more than just their missing hubcaps and squeaky brakes that call out for help. For their owners, these drives are more than just means of transport; they hold memories of adventures shared and journeys taken over the years. In Resurrected Rides, a talented crew breathes new life into the metal, transforming tired trails into thrill rides once more.
The show follows in the stylin’ tire tracks of the iconic Pimp My Ride series. Like its predecessor, each episode features a car in desperate need of revival. Whether a long-serving van or a Mustang passed down through generations, these wheels have witnessed their fair share of miles. But despite wear and tear, emotional attachment keeps them puttering along.
That’s where host Chris Redd and his mechanics come in. Led by master fabricator Don and technical wizard Steve, the team dedicates...

Kenan Thompson makes history every time he steps onto the Saturday Night Live stage. The veteran comedian holds the record for longest-tenured cast member in series history, and it's not even close at this point.
Thompson absolutely clears previous SNL record holders like Darrell Hammond and Seth Meyers. Hammond stayed on the series for an impressive 14 seasons, and Meyers turned in an impressive 13 seasons, but Thompson has left them all in the dust with a staggering 21 consecutive seasons.
